What is the one game you wish would receive a sequel? (I know a secret)
wannabepunktony | 7:52 PM on 01.18.2008 28 comments

I was poking around one of our game databases at work, looking to see if any random cool game had been added to the list to expect sometime down the line and I realized that our Japanese release list actually had a translated column! For months I just tried to find English words or have someone who knew Japanese tell me if the symbols meant a cool game...here a English list was just a column outside of my browser window. I can be pretty fucking dumb. ;P

What I found today nearly stopped my heart. One of the most beloved series of all-time is finally receiving some love in a new game, currently at some unknown stage of development. I have no idea if its a port of the original, a remake or a new entry in the series, I simply know its title, which cannot be mistaken for any other game or an original IP.

Literally, I'd lose my job in a heartbeat if I leaked the info - hell, I'm scared to even drop the system its coming out on. All I can say is whenever the developer drops the bomb, its going to be huge, gamers will rejoice and many may even shed tears of unexpected happiness. Literally, the gaming world may stop for a moment and all scream, 'YES!'

With that said, I pose the question to anyone who reads - if you could see one series revived from the grave, what would it be (if you want to throw out what system you'd like to see it for too, that'd be interested too)? I won't be able to confirm or deny what you post, but let's just say I wouldn't be surprised to see the series in these comments if we get enough.

God damn I hate knowing amazing things that I can't speak about. ;_;

Proclaiming that you know something amazing but can't tell us anything about it is just plain pointless.

I'll take a new MegaMan proper. you know I will.

But really, what I very much want above most other game sequels that we don't see coming?

A new X-Com. I want to manage a team of nobody's into a team of fearless, alien hunting somebodies without ressurrecting my PS1. Dear goodness I'd love to hear about that game actually happening.

I'm gonna go with Trevor and say Mega Man Legends. They've already clearly established that the Lost Planet engine was intended for Legends 3. Even Dead Rising had a hand in it too.
MrSadistic's Destructoid Blog
Dude, what the hell? Everyone knows that there is going to be a sequel to Revolution X.

A true sequel to FFT that wasn't some storybook nonsense with judges and rabbit-women
A Vagrant Story sequel
A new, good Kirby game
PILOTWINGS WII
SUPER PUNCHOUT WII
Donkey Kong Country 4
Super Mario RPG 2
A new Bubble Bobble
A new Star Tropics game

Slapping the beehive with a stick is fun. ;P I know shit like this pisses people off, but seriously, I'm bubbling with joy after seeing that this game exists and it got me thinking about other dormant series...and you know how this shit goes. Just bored at work and talking out loud as loud as I'm allowed to. Trust me, I don't want to be some fucking SurferGirl who 'spills beans' on shit that she seems to just make out of thin air.

I have to say though, Aerox has the right idea with that list and I'd personally like to see a Mega Man Legends 3 to go with all the Mega Man requests. You know what I'd really like to see though - a sequel to the fucking Goonies 2 NES game. I love that game but there is no way that'll ever, ever, EVER happen. ;P
Aerox's Destructoid Blog
Haha, Goonies 2 was so fucking hard. I was awful at that game.
WastelandTraveler's Destructoid Blog
Kings Quest

Star-Wars X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter

Space Quest
Wing Commander
Grim Fandango

River City Ransom
Battletoads
F-Zero
Shadow warrior (oh god yes rofl)
Blood (even better, only if it was more like the first one)
Crusader (no remorse ftfw)
Diablo III (lawlawlawlgiven)

Noah's Ark 3-d on the SNES

No seriously, Earthworm Jim would be fucking great.

My guess, a remake of Chrono Trigger for the DS.

I wish Ikaruga would get a spiritual sequel. Like as different from Ikaruga as Ikaruga was from Radiant.
CreamyGoodness7's Destructoid Blog
Oh I know it's going to be Kid Icarus right? With those Factor 5 rumors flying around it wouldn't be to surprising if he(she?) meant the alleged Kid Icarus sequel

 about me

My name is Tony, I'm 26 and currently run an online, vinyl-only record store with my wife - NerdAlertRecords.com. Before that, I worked at Nintendo for 10 months in the department where 1st and 3rd parties games much pass a rigorous set of tests before they are allowed to be put into production, wrote game reviews over at AceGamez.us.com for about 2 years and graduated from college with a BA in Creative Writing.

I'm kinda in a gaming lull right now, I think I burned myself out by gaming 12 hours a game for 10 months, but I'm hoping Call Of Duty 4 will help that.
