Mario Kart Wii Box - real or fake?
wannabepunktony | 7:09 PM on 01.31.2008 11 comments

Kotaku posted this supposedly 'real' box art for the upcoming Mario Kart Wii game, wondering out loud if it is real or not. I, for one, have never seen the box art in person, but I have seen enough of the game to say that the images, font and logo are all legit, and it has a very sterile 'Wii' quality to it. So I'd say yes, for real.

Doesn't make it seem any less stupid that Luigi and Mario seem to be piloting invisible jets ala Wonder Woman. Should it come as any surprise though that Mario is the one of the pair with the obvious road rage problem? A life of mushroom addiction has a way of putting you in an awful mood when you're on a real bad low, I imagine....

If that's the real steering wheel then that's a little disappointing. Clearly Wii needs more pieces of plastic to slap onto your wiimote.

Nice clean box art. I like it! I wonder how power sliding will be handled with the wheel.

I hope the wheel doesn't add price on the game. But that art looks real to me.

I don't think the wheel will make anything more expensive. As for the wheel itself, I'm happier with a shell for the remote than an actual wheel. I've never liked actual wheels for other consoles, and they tend to cost a lot more.

The box art looks good, too, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added more to it before it gets released.

Looks pretty real. And Nintendo did say Mario Kart would be out in the new year. That's probably changed to due to SSBB delay.

I'd expect this to be out by summer time. I wonder if I'll actually be able to get one?

The shadows of the karts is kinda weird. The box says it comes with the 'Wii Wheel,' I wonder if it's the same as the one they're selling now.

@Jonathan Kerr

The Wii Wheel that's out right now actually isn't made by Nintendo. This one's gonna be the first-party one. I believe this is the only one on the market right now, and it's made by Ubisoft.

Seems Legit, although it looks like the box may be a little too big for just the Game and Wheel.

Nintendo usually keeps all boxed products(Zapper) in a very tight fit.

Since you're the "inside man" around here, shouldn't you have played and beaten all the courses in this Mario Kart 5 times already?

Doesn't your rich uncle, like, own Nintendo and Microsoft? Or was it a friend of a brother of your uncle's wife? Well, thank god either way, because without them you wouldn't have your awesome "inside information" to pass on to all of us peons in the community.

God bless wannabepunktony, and God bless America!

I'm guessing it's from Nintendo but it's not the final packaging. Mario Galaxy had 3 artwork changes before release... first the E3 image then the one where he was floating awkwardly in space & then the (awesome) final one. I hope they come up with something better anyway... I much prefer the over-the-top colourful doubledash cover art to the boring mario kart ds cover.

It says Rated E on it instead of RP.....has ESRB already gotten ahold of this game?

 about me

My name is Tony, I'm 26 and currently run an online, vinyl-only record store with my wife - NerdAlertRecords.com. Before that, I worked at Nintendo for 10 months in the department where 1st and 3rd parties games much pass a rigorous set of tests before they are allowed to be put into production, wrote game reviews over at AceGamez.us.com for about 2 years and graduated from college with a BA in Creative Writing.

I'm kinda in a gaming lull right now, I think I burned myself out by gaming 12 hours a game for 10 months, but I'm hoping Call Of Duty 4 will help that.
