About Me
I am also a contributer on Damnlag dot com. You can read my column, Broken Pixels and check out all the other great stuff we've got going on there. Just remember to wear pants.

Anyway, about me...

My name is Jack Ninivaggi AKA Wandering Pixel, and I'm here to rock your world! Or at least cause some sort of tremor.

I live over on the east coast in New Jersey. My favorite types of games are those that have great writing. I'm going to college right now and plan on majoring in either communications or literature. When I'm not playing games I'm either reading a book or comic, watching a movie or sleeping. I'm a huge fan of animation and my favorite thing to do is watch old animated films, I'm also a theater geek, and frequently make trips to New York to watch the latest musicals and plays on Broadway. one day I plan on making a living by writing, though I haven't yet decided what kind of writing I want to do. Anyway, this is my blog. Enjoy!

A New Ending for Batman: Arkham Asylum (Short, but Sweet)
wanderingpixel | 12:30 PM on 09.03.2009 20 comments

This is my idea for an alternate ending to Batman: Arkham Asylum.

After Batman defeats the Joker's minions, he comes down off of his "throne" and begins to clap. He then reveals to Batman that in addition to Commissioner Gordon, he has kidnapped "The Oracle" as well. He then tells Batman that each one has an explosive collar attached to their necks. Both will detonate within one minuet, and if he disarms one, the other will explode. At the same time, the Joker is going to escape to Gotham with the serum and infect the city. The player has three choices: save Gordon; save "The Oracle"; or save Gotham. The player can also throw a Sonic Batarang to and disarm both collars. The Joker, however, will still get away.

The only way to save them is for the player to not make a choice at all. Instead, if the player turns around and begins to leave, the Joker becomes infuriated and yells desperately for Batman to decide. In his panic, the Joker runs after Batman. This gives the player an opportunity to throw the Sonic Batarang; saving The Commissioner and “The Oracle”; and take out the Joker, who is as tough as a normal thug.

What do you guys think?

Hmm... not bad, but not great. It would be a good idea to move this to the forums so everyone can get in on improving the ending to Arkham.

Though i do like the idea of the joker being infuriated when batman decides not to play his games.

I think Joker, the master manipulator, should inject himself with super-roids and turn into a giant monster. And he should have a mohawk. Oh, and be distracted by helicopters much like dangling car keys in front of a cat.

Wait. That would be a terrible idea.

But seriously, interesting idea. Really, anything would be better than what we got. I would accept Joker riding around a dinosaur and throwing javelins at you if it made for an actual boss fight.

They should have a heartfelt talk between Rachel Dawls and Harvey Dent before the gas explodes. Er, Gordon and Barbara, I mean. And collars, not gas.

a lot more interesting than another generic titan fight which is nice. that said, everyone argues about joker acting out of character and to me personally, the whle walking away/chasing after batman in desperation seems odd for both characters.

batman may refuse to play games with the joker but its never at the expense of innocent lives, and even then i can't see joker getting panicky. hed just blow both collars and leg it anyway while batman had his back turned.

still, like i said, its certainly a more interesting idea that titan fight #6.

also, @suitcoatavenger: best joker boss idea i've heard yet! :P

Am I the only one who liked batmans ending??? The Joker is insane enough to do what he did to himself, and I'm thrilled they left it open for a sequel.

More about your alternate ending though... Truthfully it's just dumb because no one actually knows the Oracle is Barbara Gordan. Even Robin didn't know for a good time. Maybe if it was Gordon and Cash?

Either way I enjoyed the original, even if it wasn't the best part of the game. At least it wasn't a vehicle driving boss battle. THAT couldve been terrible.

Also someone needs to make a forum thread on how the ending couldve been worse. That could be hilarious

That minus the walk away and Oracle part, instead having to decide whether to beat up the Joker for good (if you don't he's gonna do something crazy again) or save Gordon...

Odd thing, did anybody else realize that the post-credits ending is randomized? I was just reading on Gamefaqs, and apparently its random as to who (between Scarecrow, Croc, or Bane) reaches out of the water and grabs the Titan case.

Huh.

I'm not pretentious enough.

@Suitcoatavenger
Yeah; I got Bane at the end, but my friend got Killer Croc. I could be wrong, but I thought that there was a fourth character?

I don't agree specifically, but I definitely like the idea of a trick ending. A choice you have to make if you agree to consent and play by the rules and a perfect ending if you sit and think about it for a while. I think that's a clever way to do it.

The problem is working from the set-up of the AA confrontation. I only marginally cared more about Oracle than Gordon, and I really wouldn't care enough about either to be motivated to save them.

I'm a hardcore Batman fan, so I care very deeply about the characters. But I can see how this scenerio ending may not have the same emotional impact for non-fans.

Interesting, but in a game that's not about choice, it's kind of weird for you to suddenly have to make one at the end. And after a whole game spent being the Goddamn Batman, I can't imagine anyone would figure out the only way to save everyone was to pretend to walk away.

But it's better than the actual ending, and if the whole game was spent building up to it, it could work quite well.

This, kinda, sorta has already been done in Schumacher's Batman Forever...

Gotcha.

@Snaileb
I'm with you, i quite liked the ending and how joker get's infuriated that batman wont turn to beat him so he does it himself, and leaving it open to a sequel was inevitable but still well done.

@wanderingpixel
It's not a bad idea but as it's been stated joker wouldnt know who oracle was. Plus after already retiring her to her role as oracle in the first place, it's a little harsh, leave the poor woman alone.

If enything i'd make the game longer in the middle rather than change the ending.

and on a seperate not if any sequel doesnt put Nightwing somewhere into the mix i'll be a little hurt. It must be far enough along in the canon to allow this because of other people/events already in the game.
