About Me
I'm from a small town in Iowa, about to graduate with a Magazine Journalism degree from Drake University. Games were what I did as a kid to keep me entertained, along with sports. I started on the Genesis w/ Columns, and just kinda kept going. I kept up the hobby through elementary and high school, getting some of my friends into video games. I now work at a Gamestop here in Des Moines, and try to keep up with most every game that does come out.

Games I'm smitten with right now:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Borderlands
Left 4 Dead
Gamer Profile
3DS friend code:
Steam:
Battle:
PSN:
Mii:
Gamertag: Kipp010

That's right... If you're a manager at Gamestop. It seems that every manager was given a free copy from Rockstar, that was emblazoned with "Promotional use only. Not for resale." Or something to that extent. Sad thing is, I'll bet over half the managers traded this back in. I know mine did. Store credit isn't a lot, but when a game first comes out, it's usually rather decent - especially if the game was free.

Why do they deserve a free copy is my question. A large number of managers around my area are, to be blunt, worthless. Many of them throughout corporate don't even game, so why do they get free copies of a seemingly great game, while the rest of us have to drop $60? If anybody has an answer to this, please let me know.

One good thing about this I guess. If you're looking for Redemption on the mildly cheaper, a local Gamestop may have the managers copy that had never been opened or played. Which goes against store trade-in policy too I'm sure. Good job GS.

Shoulda asked for it cheaper, not for resale means don't trade it in basically.

Managers always get unfair perks. Ideally, they would consume this perk and then preach it's offerings to his disciples, but yeah, it usually ends up sitting in a box or on ebay.

I sell mobile phones for a living and our manager, who actually rarely works, got an HTC EVO for free, which is like the most amazing phone EVER, while the rest of us who do all the selling have to buy one. It sucks and it should be different but the suits are just too stupid to bother.

I think the idea is that they take it home, play it and can answer questions for customers and, if they liked it, recommend it to people who have no idea what to buy but want something or are looking for gift ideas.

He really should have used Goozex though.

My manager lacks a 360 and would have given me her copy gladly had I not already purchased and opened my own with glee. In her defense, she does game, the Wii is just more family friendly for her and her little one at the moment. For now she's holding onto it to see if anyone else could make better use of it, so not every copy is just being senselessly traded back without enjoyment :)

It's an old PR move. The more people that have played the game and also work at the store... the more they might recommend the game to customers. That's probably what Rockstar was thinking anyway.

The Gamestop managers I know play their free copies and often give them to the employees who want to play the game. Seems like it's a fair system to me. /shrug

I just wish I had known I was getting a copy before I purchased my copy at the midnight sale. No complaints here, though. I'll either let my girlfriend ride around in my possé or trade it in.

Came here looking for a free copy of the game.

Left looking for the nearest GameStop to put in my application.

Wow, why would they trade in a sealed new copy for a measly $30 when they could eBay it for almost full price. Not like the "not for resale" sticker matters, as I've seen plenty of games with those on it in the EB used section.
