That's me. I really like zombie stuff, pretty much every type of video game, drawing things (It's been like six months), play music in a band, and am a geek. Very much so, in fact. Also, I drew the Maxx that I'm using in my header. It's going to stay there until I hit some inspiration for some video game artwork.

My job is to make the computers and electronics at my work rise again from the dead. It's alright, as jobs go. Of course, since I'm heavily into computers, I either have or have had every major type of personal computer known to man... so if you ever want to discuss computer things, I can probably have a lengthy conversation about it.

I live in the mostly sunny Central Florida, and have for about 16 years now. I'm pretty sure I'm too old to be playing games anymore, but I really don't see that ending any time soon and hope it never will.

I have a gaming PC (C2D E6550 2.33Ghz/8800GTS 512), PS2, Dreamcast, N64, DS, PSP, Xbox 360 and PS3, but I have owned an Odyssey2, Aquarius, ColecoVision, NES, SNES, Genesis, GameBoy (as well as Advance and SP), PS1, Xbox, and a Wii as well. They've all either been broken, sold, or have been grudgingly traded in for the "next best thing" due to lack of funds to buy them outright.

I read fanatically, and even though I have plenty of different books there are several that are read over and over again. Pretty much anything that William Gibson or Terry Pratchett have done are my favorites, but there are plenty of writers that still get my attention. To be certain, I'm happy Rhianna Pratchett is writing for videogames.

Here's a little story of dumb.

So, true to form I had been missing out on something simple because I wasn't paying attention. This isn't so surprising since I've been working like crazy for the past two months and not getting much sleep. But still.

I had bought a 17" widescreen LCD monitor for gaming because the 15" wasn't cutting it and I got a fantastic deal. It's a'ight. At least it's 1440 x 900, which is still loads better than standard XGA.

When I got GH3 for PC I was able to use my 360 guitar controller. They have a fairly long cord (for rocking, apparently), so I used the component output on my computer to send it to the TV, making it a nice little 32" game like all my 360 ones.

Since I still haven't gotten through it, I was playing Half Life 2 on my laptop through the S-Video cable to the TV since my eyes were tired and I didn't want to strain on the 17. However, the lappy is just barely good enough to do this in 1024 x 768, dropping frames like mad on detailed scenes. After a while, I got frustrated with the frame rate and was like,

"DAMNIT! I need to play this on the gaming machine... Gotta use the tiny monitor now!"

So I get my game save copied over the the other machine, turn around, and suddenly realize that I'm dumb. Like duh-umb.

I've got a wireless keyboard. Wait. No. Yes I do. Already connected... wow.

Do I have a wireless mouse? [rummage] Oh god. Microsoft wireless mouse buried in a drawer somewhere. It's not the laser mouse, but still decent. USB extension? Check.

It then dawns on me that I get to follow Alyx around in 32" HD.

I mean... who wouldn't? Definitely happier now.

Hmm, I connected my computer once to my TV with the S-video cord. And it looked like crap. So I don't do that anymore. The color was off, everything looked nasty. And this is a 1080i TV. But hey if it works don't knock it right?

Yeah, running in 1080i instead of 480i is definitely an improvement. It was... playable? at 480i, but not fun. Plus, I was at the bridge level having to run across beams at 15 fps. So not fun.

Running DVI-out to your TV is the way to go.

Alas, the said TV is a CRT based one without HDMI or DVI. Phooey, as they say.
