![]() Uncharted is the second PS3 game I've bought since I bought my system a little while ago. I can't say the game has pushed any new buttons, but who's to say a game has to for it to be fun or for it to be considered a 10? I sure don't, but we all have our opinions. Just so long as you don't consider a 10 to be a "perfect" game. You're just asking for me to put you down with that. I'll start with what I think of the visuals. It's the easiest to evaluate. The graphics in Uncharted are great. They're not the best, but they are great. What really shines here are the animations. Nathan Drake moves so fluidly and so much more naturally than so many games. Developers of Grand Theft Auto IV, Assassin's Creed, and Uncharted have clearly paid attention to detail when it comes to the movement of their characters which is key when trying to set the mood. I feel really tense when there's a gun fight and Nathan Drake is cursing under his breath and twitching as bullets hit nearby. Watching Nathan run faster as things get hotter gets me really immersed. The facial expressions during the cut scenes and during game-play are fantastic. This game looks good. ![]() Now, as for the game-play, I'm really enjoying myself. The cover system sometimes gets sticky. It's not as weak as GTA IV's (which I didn't find to be too bad, but not good either) but it sometimes annoys me. The thing that really bugs me is the game's climbing system. Sometimes I think I'm able to grab on to somethings and it turns out I can't. It gets a tad annoying at first; especially when there's ledge you would be able to grab would it not be for the fact that you're not supposed to. There's also the explosive barrels. They are totally fucking lame. They're extremely lame when they're in the most absolutely dumb places. Example? Inside an ancient tomb in convenient places where they knock down walls you need to get past. There's also barrels inside your enemy's jeep where you can shoot at it and blow the gunner that's sitting in it away. It's so (for lack of a better word) "last-gen." It almost feels cheap and lazy to have them in there. The gun-play itself is pretty fun. The guns sometimes feel and sound pretty bland, but they're not bad. I just wish the bad guys in this game weren't mutant men. I swear I emptied an entire assault rifle clip in a guy and he walked around like it was nothing. I guess I've been spoiled by Grand Theft Auto's characters limping away. ![]() There are some A.I. issues as well, but it never feels too bad. Sometimes characters don't react the way they should. They may stop moving for a second and then realize I'm there. Another issue that I have that's not a glitch is the way they rush the shit out of you. They're almost too good for me. I'll have some guys in front of me and I'll have my attention on them and then all of a sudden they'll come at me from both sides and take me out. It makes the game harder, but that's something I'll have to learn to deal with. Hey, if Wardrox can bitch about GTA's difficult driving controls, I can bitch about A.I. characters who all look the same. Fuckers bum rush you like crazy. The story in the game is nothing special. It's a treasure hunting story. The thing that really draws me in are the characters. They're just lovable and I don't have the slightest clue why. It could be that they're just charming. Nathan Drake feels like a modern day Indiana Jones (which I recently watched for the first time) and the female character...she looks so real. She doesn't have massive breasts, and a the body of a super model. She's naturally beautiful and dare I say; adorable. Yes, I do feel like a lame ass for admitting that I found a video game character cute All in all I'm really enjoying this game. The story isn't great (it's not bad so far - just sort of typical), but the characters are. The game-play is so-so for me at times. It has it's moments that happen enough times for me to want to continue playing, and be excited to continue playing. If you have a PS3, please pick this up. I'd like to see more of this game in the future.

I'm hoping for a trilogy that turns in to a quadrilogy when a fourth game is released 15 years later.
but they should cut out the shooting and just stick to navigating through the jungle/desert temples with their awesome run/climb-system :-)
like when you have to climb into a building atop a clip, EPIC!
With the advancement of technology, it's become so easy to portray the kind of things that make us attracted to other people, not just sexually, but mentally as well. I'm positive everybody has fallen for a character in at least one game they have played, be it man or woman, and if they say they haven't, they just don't want to admit it.
That being said, I too thought that Elena was cute in a very down to earth kind of way, and Nathan is one of my favorite adventures after playing through his story. I love the way he ducks and flinches as bullets fly by while hiding behind cover.
Also, if you think the enemies are mutant men now... just you wait.
The AI definitely has that “last-gen” thing they do where they won’t notice you until you cross an invisible threshold into “their territory” (or start firing at them), and that’s unfortunate. But I love how smart they are (for example, as you mentioned, they’ll flank you, and they’ll also use grenades to flush you out). And I absolutely agree on the characters — they were all so well-drawn, and Elena was one of the best female characters I’ve ever seen in a videogame.
Nice write-up, Alex!
I agree about Elena being adorable. The characters in Uncharted are really well done. If you watch the behind-the-scenes bits the actress actually looks a fair bit like her, so that means it's not lame... I hope.
Also, with things like ledges, it took me a few hours to work out; If you are at the end of a ledge, move the stick without jumping, Nathan will reach out if there is a ledge you can jump to.
Mine period.
As for the game, expect to continue with gun-fight after gun-fight. For some it's repetitive, but for others it's not. Hopefully you'll be in the latter camp.
It was my favorite game of last year besides Super Mario Galaxy.
Also, don't waste time with machine guns!!!! Against all humans, use only the standard hand gun. Go for headshots and you'll have no problems. They aren't weak, but a headshot usually works.

If you gots one that is ?!
2007 GOTY IMO
As far as color goes, no other game even touches this.
The animation, the way the vegataion looks.
This game really makes me wish MGS3 would of came out on ps3 instead of 2.
This shit was beautiful.
At times the jungle looks a little strange to me. I understand why because making foliage does seem a bit difficult. More difficult than making a city, anyways. The explosions didn't look as great as I wish they did. It's a light flash followed by a strange looking ball of black smoke.
The game looks great, but it didn't impress me too much. The the environment, anyway. The character models blew me away, though.
@ AgentMOO
Totally. Everyone should buy this game instead of watching Indiana Jones.
@ Samit
You're right. The AI is pretty fantastic when you're in a gun fight. Like I said, it's too good for me. They used grenades to get me away from my cover and gun me down as I run away. It's not really a bad thing, it's just frustrating at times. I need to get better.
Yes, Elena is one of the few realistic female characters in a video game. The voice acting really shined in this game, made the characters come alive with their awesome motion capture work.
I really loved the way they pretty much avoided the obvious love story that could have been there too. I find it much more satisfying to have that kind of working sexual tension between two characters as opposed to a sappy plot line. There is a level of class involved with pulling off that kind of thing that I enjoy immensely. Clever subtlety is always more erotic than the usual "look at my huge tits" type of attraction. Just look at Princess Leia and Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back. Easily one of the most interesting romantic angles in a movie known for cheesiness, because the chemistry was there in a believable way that takes time to develop.
Also, I agree that this was a better treasure hunter, Indiana Jones, type experience than Crystal Skull was. Didn't I hear that some movie studio bought the rights to this? If they make it with the right characters it could be a hella fun movie.
The graphics were beautiful, but I can't help but use the term "overrated" when describing this game, because it looks great, but the gameplay gets boring really quickly.
