I saw pictures of the
Valkyria Chronicles anime, and one of them came with a comparison from an in-game screenshot of the same scene:
I mean, look at those two guys beside Alicia in the lower screen. They must be a quarter the age of their in-game counterparts.Sigh. As in reality, the most dangerous jobs will be going to young people, which includes interrogating aspiring biology teachers.
Then again, in the game one of those guys gets killed something like ten minutes later, so odds are some of those guys will be playing a role, since they're no longer generic red-shirts (blue-hats?). Other shots:
Keep in mind that any animate work looks better in motion, so reserve your judgments of QUALITY for when it comes out. They seem to be achieving the crosshatching effect in a way not unlike the one used in the animu adaptation of
The Count of Monte Cristo (Gankutsuou, I think), though obviously implemented to a less pervasive degree.
Now that I think of it, the game's visual punch lay in the contrast between the clean pastel graphics and the grim, (mostly) serious storyline, so I wonder what they'll be doing to replicate that "punch" in reverse...will they make the violence more graphic?
Anyway, the animu is set for a standard 12-episode run. Since I'm a good fan I will no doubt be compelled to buy or in some way support any licensed region 1 release in addition to the inevitable fansubs. It might be a good idea for Sony to offer this as a rental/purchase opportunity via the PSN, like they're doing with
Xam'd and will soon be doing with various NBC shows and
Galactica.
While I'm talking about anime, if they're going to start putting it out on Blu-Ray (they already are), I hope they start condensing the disc numbers down to about 2 or 3 for the average 26-episode series.
Oh, here's a pretty poster picture.
Also, in terms of CBlog issues, I think all of Dtoid is having issues with size. I notice a lot of comments running off of the page when they shouldn't...
But you've chose the worst ingame picture possible.
It makes the game look really ugly. PS2-esque even
It's probably only picture in game I've seen where it doesn't look gorgeous.
I agree with Pedorvay2003, this is looking nice. :O)
and... TITS!
It just looks really bland here, which is a shame, because it's not like the game's plot was particularly notable. Don't get me wrong; the characters are charming, but the plot's not very memorable.
I'd love to see a full color graphic novel, though. It's already got the comic onomatopoeia. I'd buy fourty copies if they could really push the source material.
TITS.
