I'm Josh "unangbangkay" Tolentino, and this is my cry for attention.
I'm also the News EditorJapanator. Come visit, and see me gush about things not directly related to video games. Or not. But hey, diversifying your interest in me is definitely something I would encourage.
Which is just eff'n great. I just don't have enough f'n DS cartridges to lug around.
I'm sounding ungrateful here, but I was hoping that Strange Journey would be a home console title, for the Wii perhaps. Especially a Wii title, as I'd finally be doing something with it outside of EA Sports Active. Besides, I've already got a DS MegaTen game to play.
But it's too late now, seeing as the scans are out on Siliconera. At least it's in 3D.
There are also details there, which I will regurgitate here, for I am a blogger, and game JOURNALISTS tell me that that is all game bloggers do, which is not JOURNALISM.
It's the first "core" MegaTen release since Digital Devil Saga, since Persona and Devil Survivor are spinoffs, and Devil Summoner is somewhere between (by my estimation).
That hole in the south pole leads to the "Schwarze-verse", which is apparently an Etrian Odyssey-style first-person dungeon. The top screen shows the exploration, the bottom screen shows something like a pip-boy interface for your "Demonica Suit."
All the base concepts for a MegaTen game are in. Weaknesses, fusion, and demon negotiation etc. Apparently there are more demons than ever, with something along the lines of 300+, double that of Persona 3's 150. MegaTen's famous art director is back to create those creepily andro character designs, and perhaps even make some new art assets for monster design, because God knows we've seen enough recycles of that Pixie character sprite.
Strange Journey takes a page from Persona's book, as your relationships with the crew are critical to item creation and actually doing whatever it is you're supposed to be doing.
JP release is set for October 10, which probably invalidates my earlier jizzing over Persona 5 rumors, but it's all good. MegaTen is MegaTen, and at least this one isn't about high school kids, right?
Anyway, now that I've done my job as a blogger, have a video. Unlike Strange Journey, it's about high school kids:
I'm interested in the Demonica Suit. It sounds like the suit will actually be doing all the leveling and ability learning instead of the actual character you control.
Honestly I was having a shortage of really worthwhile DS games, so a couple of SMTs was just what I needed. I haven't touched anything on the DS since Retro Game Challenge prior.
@Enosachran: You might be onto something there. Not only that, but when I first read through the original Siliconera post, the thing on the main characters wrist reminds me a helluva lot of the Pip-Boy 3000 from Fallout 3.
I somehow doubt the guys down at Atlus were paying serious attention to Dead Space. You're looking at a fairly generic space suit, which is perhaps why you think Dead Space.
Doesn't change the fact that I'll buy this one when it releases. Though, I was kinda hoping it was a console game...but hey, more DS-lovin' is okay in my book.
Hmm, still looks awesome, but I'm more of a fan of the realish world settings of Persona/Devil Summoner/Survivor. I'll still probably play it though :3
I'm not really sure how that's different given your character(s) are wearing Demonica suits all the time, but that "scanning" stuff mentioned on the Siliconera piece sounds interesting.

@wry guy
I was actually going to mention that when I posted, that Atlus had mated Bioshock (stylized gold bits) and early Dead Space (before you get your suit upgrades), but it was almost midnight and I wanted to go to sleep.
@scary womanizing pig mask
Same here, but technically speaking it is a real-world setting. Your character is Japanese, and there's an American and Russian and a dude named "Captain Gore." I wonder if that's a reference to a certain former vice president and his concerns about a hole in the south pole...

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, is EA Sports Active actually good?
DS sells.
I'm disappointed that Strange Journey isn't a new Bill and Ted film to be honest.
Did Shin MegaTen just steal the design of the main character from Dead Space? Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees it.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 for PSP
Metal Gear Solid 'MGS 5' Peace Walker for PSP
Dragon Quest IX for DS
looks like these days developer more and more never really consider handheld as a 'sub media' for a release of their flagship titles.
Reminds me more of the Rocketeer.
Also when you said "Schwarze-verse" I thought of Spaceballs :(
I'm liking it. And the fella looks like he's cosplaying as a cyberman.
I thought the same thing.

Still haven't 100%ed Devil Survivor, but it seems I must buy every SMT that comes out now. :(
Anyway, here's hoping we get P5 info soon, I'm tired of portable RPGs.
