Final Fantasy, oh how you've grown to suck.
travolta | 12:47 PM on 02.28.2008 19 comments

You can call me a hater, and a complete douche bag, but the new Final Fantasies suck extremely.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of FF7, 8, and 10.

I have played FF12 for about 5 hours, and what ruined the whole franchise for me is the real time battle system. And the news that FF13 is going to be real time as well, just completely overwhelms me, and forces me to stab myself in the eyes.

I mean, the new battle system is great, and I love in how each game they differentiate the battle system, and the use of magic and what not. But I can't stand the real time system. For fuck sake, you can set it up to do a battle, and you don't have to do anything at all. You can go make yourself a ham sandwich while the toons fight for you.

Why couldn't Square stick with the classic turn based system? It was so simple, and it was actually a lot more fun. I know it's not as realistic as the real time system, but still, it's the classic system, and they should have stayed with it. I guarantee that Square lost a lot of customers due to their new system; I know they have lost me.

So, I picked up Lost Odyssey, I was very skeptical about a RPG being on the 360, because their other attempts at publishing RPGs have completely sucked ass. But to be honest with you, it's probably one of the better RPGs that I've played in years, probably since FF10. I hate to say it, but Microsoft has done it again, they're going to give Square-Enix a run for their money with this new Lost Odyssey franchise, and with them in the talks of already putting out a sequel, is absolute amazing news.

Turn based = win

I'm also pumped for The Last Remnent[img]

The Ultimate Gamepad Transformer?
travolta | 10:55 AM on 10.31.2007 7 comments

Story stolen from http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=454

This:

is not a working game controller. That’s because it turns into… Well, you’ll just have to click below to find out, won’t you?

It turns into this:

Aw, bless, etc. Yes, it’s an official Transformer, and it’s in toyshops right now. However, I wish for it to be a working game controller, as clearly playing a videogame with a robot is geek nirvana. However, any attempts I’ve ever made at modifying plastic or attempting wiring has resulted in a lot of small, sharp pieces all over the place and an even greater quantity of massive, horrific soldering iron burns on my ravaged hands.

So, can you, O Mighty Reader of Rock, Paper, Shotgun help? If there’s anyone out there who thinks they can mod this into a functioning (and still transformable) USB game controller, web-fame awaits. Hopefully.

The trouble is, High Score 100 (for that is this robot’s name) is incredibly tiny. How tiny? This tiny:

There really isn’t an awful lot of space in there to hold switches and cables, and frankly my hands would permanently clench into small balls of blood and agony if I tried to play Psychonauts or something with it. It may not be possible, and I’ll quite understand if this never gets off the ground. I’m thinking, though, that if it could just manage up, down, left and right and a single action button, then we’d have something that could play Peggle or Speedball II, and that would be a thousand kinds of awesome. If the only way to do that is to add an extra box or something, that’s fine.
Here’s a picture of the back, to give you a better sense of what manner of minute plastic thing we’re dealing with here:

Reckon it’s possible? Reckon you can do it? Drop us a line and, if we’re sufficiently convinced as to your plastic mangling ability, we’ll post you the robot and a USB controller to hack apart. UK-based folk are preferable for cost/time reasons, but we’ll consider everyone equally. This is, after all, about creating the best thing ever, so clearly absolutely no expense should be spared. Unless it’s more than about £30.

Pretty freakin sweet.

Snake...? Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake??? Movie.
travolta | 1:15 PM on 10.29.2007 9 comments

So, the word on the street is that they're going to be making a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Who else is excited, but also extremely terrified for this movie?

More rumor has it that Christian Bale will be cast as Snake. This to me sounds like a fantastic idea.

But, when the time comes to choose a director, who do you think should do the movie? If you say Uwe Boll, I'm going to kill your whole family.

Who do you think should play each character? I haven't thought about this too extensively, but I would like to hear other people's SERIOUS idea of who should be cast for each character.

I mean, if Hideo Kojima has anything to do with this movie, which im positive he will be, I'm sure he'll make it a point to make this movie NOT suck. We don't need another street fighter on our hands.

In my opinion, there has NOT been a good video game movie ever created. Even though, Silent Hill was the best adaptation, but still not that good. This trend needs to change. Because so many video games would make awesome movies, but they're all just pumped out into a bag of shit to make a quick buck.

On another note, I heard someone once say, "For every Spiderman, there will be 5 Daredevils."

Well, they fucked up spiderman, so I think comicbook movies are doomed. But this is a whole different post.

The following are photo's of the Xbox360 Gibson Les Paul Guitar.

The first picture is a picture of the inside of the guitar where the shaft goes into.

As you can see, there are 8 tiny pins right there.

When you usually look at electronic components that use pins... they're supposed to plug into something right?

WRONG!

I mean, I'm not the most technology saavy guy on the planet, but i know when things need to be plugged in.

If you look at the second picture of the shaft of the guitar it has a mini circuit board that has 8 little parts on it, where the PINS TOUCH TO

That's right, the pins TOUCH to this mini circuit board.

And what happens when you have a detachable guitar that is not securely fastened on there? Some of the pins are not touching to the circuit which causes you to...

FUCK UP THE SONG.

GG again Red Octane at being a bunch of mook fucks.

Way to test out your fucking products before the consumer purchases it.

FAIL.
