Playing betas for work
tornotlukin | 9:57 AM on 05.05.2008 20 comments

Got to play the Metal Gear Online demo for work today. I loved how they took everything cool about the Metal Gear universe and distill it into a tightly packed multiplayer of boring. No cool characters, lame! No innovative multiplayer rules, lame! No metal gears, lame! It looked nice enough, but that cannot be enough to justify another generic multiplayer experience. Please Konami, give this the Gray Fox treatment before the next phase of demos! (ie, mind fuck it, stick its half crazed body in a cyber-ninja outfit and let it run loose on all the unsuspecting 10 year olds that play these 'hardcore' multiplayer games.)

At least I wont need Vicadin to not feel pain anymore, I can play this beta and get all numb.

I dont see how playing metal gear online constitutes as work for a T-shirt designer. Shouldn't you be designing t-shirts?.

hehe, well I do a bunch of screen grabs and anything cool I find I remake into tee-shirts. Perhaps I should post some of the tees I've designed

tornotlukin: Trick to the internet. Just ignore people and keep on doing what you do. Things will happen as they will.

And as for MGO.. I'm not a huge MG fan, but considering the large draw to the game is the story, I can see how the multiplayer would be slightly lackluster.

I get what you're saying but I have to respectfully disagree. I loves me some Metal Gear and a big part of that is the cool characters and insanity that abounds throughout the series. That said, at it's core, it's about stealth tactics and including all sorts of crazy characters would make for a convoluted experience, not to mention one that would probably be impossible to make balanced.

@conrad - I would totally agree with you if it was true! You are right, stealth action, totally badass! But it was a bunch of people shooting each other ah la, Halo. Even with the differing skills applied to the toons, there wasn't much in the way tactical difference between player types. When i talk about crazy, I guess I mean more how they look, then what they do.

There's potential, perhaps if they work on the skill stuff better.

I thought MGO was awesome, until I kept getting headshotted with a god damn pistol, and when I tried to do it, the pistol(s) barely did any damage.
