What's to say? I like videogames, otherwise, why would I be here? Other than that, I'm a college student (UC Berkeley 2010)and I do journalism. I was Co-Editor in Chief at my junior college paper, The Oak Leaf, until I transfered to Berkeley. You can read it online here. I even had a games column which is surprisingly popular, and people get a kick out of it.

Beowulf Game...

So, as an English major, I am privy to a ton of literature that I analyze and study. Recently, I was called upon to read the ancient epic poem of Beowulf. To those who haven't read it, it tells the tale of Beowulf as he fights to defeat the evil Grendel and Grendel's mother, as well as rule a nation, and *spoiler* die at the hands of a fire breathing dragon.

And now there is a game and a movie it is based upon coming out.

um, ok.

I don't know who out there has read Beowulf, but this is really weird. I just don't really know how they are going to do this, and I am sure as hell gonna be pissed if they turn this into a hack and slash. Which I know in the very bottom of my soul, is what they will do.

Ok, take one of English's best poems ever written, full of meaning and beauty, and turn it into a hack n slash.

This makes me a very sad panda.

Coming next, a Canterbury Tales RPG.

I could speak (type?) at length on the wonder that is Beowulf. The movie and the game take place in the 30 or so years between the battle with Grendel's mother and the Dragon.

Artistic liberties, much? I'll pass.

Change majors dude. I'm was an english major, and finding a job sucks. I finally landed a job as an editor at two newspapers, but I get paid next to nothing. It's a cool job and all, just don't expect to get paid for it.

Dude, I know, that's why I'm dual majoring in English/Journalism.

I wanna write! And I do know the field is tough, but teaching could be a good option for me as well. Of course, to do the level of teaching I want to do, I'd need a masters or a doctorate, but that's cool, I'm game for the challenge.
