views on the palestinian-israeli conflict

Hi Everybody,

So a while back one of the dtoid editors posted something about a hezbollah game that was released, and a relatively lengthy political discussion ensued in the comments. now this here doesn't have anything to do with videogames, but i really want to know what the destructoid community thinks of this. at the time, the destructoid regulars seemed to be quite liberal and were fine with hezbollah releasing a game, while the noobs weren't (i'm judging this on the fact that people who had avatars were ok with it, and people without them were crying about how hezbollah were terrorists).

so personally, i'm palestinian, and i've lived in the arab sector in israel for the majority of my life (14 years - i'm actually moving tonight to boston to start my college career), so i actually experience a lot of the things that go on here first hand, which makes me most supportive of peace than either nation's cause, since every little thing here revolves around the war. for example there are about 2 million palestinians who were displaced in 1948 and still don't have homes. Unfortunately almost nobody from the west or even within israel seems to know this, even though the 2 million refugees is the biggest issue. the only reason that peace hasn't been made so far is because israel does not want to do anything with the refugees, while the palestinians aren't willing to consider a lasting peace without the refugees finding a lasting home.

so yeah, i'm really curious as to what people think about the problems here... and don't limit yourselves to just the israeli/palestinian conflict! anything that's fucked up in the middle east would make for an interesting discussion...

and don't worry about offending anybody with a differing point of view... if they can't handle it they shouldn't be part of the d'toid community in the first place.

and sorry i don't have a graphic up top. i couldn't find anything that would fit well without making it seem like a silly post.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know a damn thing about the whole mess. Part of it is my own apathy, I'll admit. I look at practically anything that has to do with the middle east and I see a massive ball of knots. Where do you even begin untying it all?

... it's not a religious conflict... the israeli jews here are for the most part completely secular. it's a war over land and water, with religion used to cover up the real thing. and blue wolf you are a fucking idiot. nobody believes that "kill yourself and get infinite wives" bullshit. that's just american media talk.

BlueWolf72, put the fox news down and step away from the bullshit.

I can go on and on and on about the problem there, about how its the west fucking everything up for the cause of oil. but, tbh, the wiki pages cover most the history, go read.

Israel is still fighting a conventional war with a relatively oldskool army. You can't win such a conflict by conventional tactics anymore, just like you can't have an intifada or insurrection without the proper political backing. If they keep going, there won't be much resolution to any conflict of that kind.

My idea? Let them all play forced Horde on 1 Isreali-middle eastern WoW server; they would have to play together. With the exception of using a tank in pvp, they are too imba for such a conflict. And no building of Goblin walls in contested territory for a morale bonus!

I think by now both sides are to blame, but I feel it's completely unjust that the US backs Israel the way they do, and even moreso that the media here always portrays Israel as the victim, when if you count numbers the Palestinians have a much higher death toll.

I also feel it was wrong for Israel to set up a state in Palestine. Still, I feel it's too late now to just say get out of here, go somewhere else. Finally, I think Zionism is stupid and anyone who believes it is a moron.

frank herbert already figured all this stuff out. Someone with bene gesserit training just has to form a symbiotic reltionship with some sandtrout and become the human incarnation of shai hulud. Then he can take over and solve everything. It's cake

yeah... i basically agree with you 100%... the only problem is that the israeli government doesn't realize that they are basically occupying land and shouldn't really exist in a non-violent way, and that the palestinian government doesn't realize that israel is more or less here for good... it's too late to do anything. they never move on.

I LOVE Destructoid. Who would have thought you could have a such clear-eyed discussion on Palestine in a video game blog? Hooray for thisissami and Orcist!
