So this doesn't really have too much to do with videogames, but it's something that I think would interest people here nonetheless. I've been a destructoid regular ever since the PS3 or 2 Wiis contest at the end of last year, and I've noticed that the majority of the regulars at this blog seem to be a lot smarter than the average human being. All the posts that the editors make include some genuinely witty remarks and every single one of them is very well written, which is something that I haven't seen on any other website yet (and I'm a regular at many, many different websites). Also, the people who comment on all the various posts here at destructoid seem to be above average as well, understanding little nuances and enjoying interesting information in a way that "normal people" don't.

For a while now, I've been watching videos from a conference called Technology Entertainment Design (TED). TED is basically an annual conference that takes place in Monterey, California for three days, where 1000 smart, innovative, and creative individuals come together, and each one of them gives a 10-20 minute talk about what they've been doing. Every single one of the TED Talks (as they are called) that I've ever seen has been extremely interesting. These talks can range from future missions to the moon, to an analysis of the sunfish, to a talk about measuring the speed of the fastest animal, to the newest development in interface technology. In fact a month ago, Nex posted one TED Talk in which Will Wright gave a 20 minute demo of Spore.

I don't know how many people here actually watch TED, but if you don't, I think this would be a really interesting thing to start doing. TED releases a new talk to the general public each day (at least lately they have been) through their own website and on their youtube account - TEDtalksDirector. I've posted here a couple of my personal favorite talks, but of course there are so many different interesting talks that you'll just have to browse them yourselves and find what you personally like, if you want to of course.

Enjoy!

This could possibly be my favorite TED Talk. What William McDonough did is incredibly impressive... It may be a bit boring at first, but trust me, you should watch the whole thing. what william mcdonough did is humbling.

This next video is of an interesting talk by Bob Thurman where he talks about how people can become buddha.

Hans Rosling shows off a new way to organize data so that it isn't boring. If you like this one you should watch a follow up talk he had the following year.

Jeff Han shows off a new way to interact with computers. This is basically what Microsoft is doing with their Microsoft Surface, except Jeff Han announced his creation 2 or 3 years earlier. The possibilities with this sort of interface are incredible.

Richard Dawkins talks about the strangeness of science. He talks about how humanity can't comprehend the universe... It's a really cool TED Talk. if you like science at all this should be something you watch.

Ken Robinson talks about the world's modern education systems destroy creativity in students. He talks about a need to change the way schools are organized.

hope you liked them and find TED interesting!

i'm confused... i posted this right now... after the other four blog posts above this were posted... does a blog make it to the "latest posts" screen when you first save a draft? when you first start writing the post? can somebody who knows let me know?
