Wednesday night, when I was at work, all I could think about was MGS4 and the PS3 bundle. For months I’d had a copy of the MGS4: LE pre-ordered at my local GameStop, even though I had no console to, you know, actually play the game. All night long I kept asking myself if I could afford to buy the PS3, running it through my head over and over again, probably only convincing myself that I could more so each time. I tell you, I even planned out a complete budget for the next three months!
In the end, it was decided 100% that I could afford… to put it on a credit card. Hooray!
So after leaving work at 6:30am, I stopped by the house to get changed, let the dog out, grab a soda and off I was out the door again to go wait in front of BestBuy until 10am. I didn’t really know what to expect while driving to the store and I imagined that there might already be a line, who knows? I was a bit surprised to find out that nobody was waiting and I was the only person standing outside the store. Several employees were already there setting up the store and after striking up a conversation with one of them, she offered me a chair from inside to sit on, which was a good thing since the sidewalk was hard and ants were all over the place.
It wasn’t until about 8:30am that more people started showing up at the store to wait also. I talked to a couple of them while we were waiting for the store to open (there’s something about a bunch of people standing in a line for the same thing that makes everyone get along pretty well, like you already have something in common to discuss, but I digress) and that’s always fun. When the store opened, they had about ten of the bundles in a cart and another six sitting in the PS3 section. Since I was the first in line, I got one of course. The rest were sold within only a few minutes time.
Truth is… It wasn’t because of MGS4 that I broke down and bought a PS3. I think it had more to do with the 80GB system itself. Ever since the PS3 was first announced, I’ve been really put off because of the high price, Blu-ray (which is something I don’t need because my older HDTV can’t do 1080p) and the overall bile that was spewed from their talking heads. Sure I’ve forgiven them now, but I predict that the 360 will be my main system for multiplatform gaming, just like it was last gen.
Then again, had it not been for MGS4, Sony might not have made the 80GB again, so maybe the game should get the credit for being a system seller. Bah! It doesn’t matter, like the chicken and the egg. The only thing important to me now is that I’m a PSPSWii6DS gamer. I knew it’d happen eventually and it feels good.
its worth it seriously
