"Oh my God! They put a level in where you can slaughter inocent people in an airport. This is unacceptable!". Americans will use any excuse to dodge the terrorism bullet in games. They can't stand to see another terrorist attack or even just an reenactment because is a touchy subject. I seem to remember hundreds of reruns of people jumping of the towers, on 9/11, only days after the attack. Eight years latter is a difficult subject.

On the other hand I'm pretty sure people will love the airport massacre level, even if they say is disgusting and appalling. Denis Leary said it best, even if he was refering to vegetarians. "Eggplant tastes like eggplant, but meat tastes like murder, and murder tastes pretty goddamn good".

You'll play it and you'll love it.

I think this is more than a bit of a generalization. You're assuming an entire country isn't going to buy the game. You're also assuming that everyone in the same country is trying to avoid and not talk about something that happened 8 years ago. There's been plenty of talk about it, a few documentaries, and even a few other films about it. I don't think many Americans refuse to talk about it, but I think it's understandable if families of the victims are having trouble with it.
