So, I bought a 360. What now?
that1dood | 11:15 AM on 04.22.2008 34 comments

And it's about damn time. Actually, I should clarify. My wife bought me a 360 as a gift. No special occasion, she just thought it would be nice. Heck yes it's nice! Coincidentally enough, I got her a present as well. I guess we were both feeling generous. (Also, tax money is awesome =D )

Anyway, now that I've finally joined the current generation of decent hardware, are there any games I should definitely play other than the obvious? By obvious I mean Halo, Gears, Rock Band, or COD4. So far all I have is Mass Effect. Help me Destructoid! You're my only hope.

Download Poker Smash. It's like Tetris Attack on 'roids.

It also has the most gratifying sound effects ever!

Orange Box, BioShock, and L4D (when it comes out). That is all you need.

Pick up a few Live Arcade gams;
Puzzle Quest, Castlevania SOTN, Ikaruga

You can't go wrong.

Is universe at war good Weedgan? i played the demo, it was ok, but quite slow frame rate wise
that1dood's Destructoid Blog
I already have Orange Box for PC, should I really buy it again? Might have a hard time justifying that one. Plus it seems the Portal would be a bitch on a console. Definitely am gonna check out Bioshock. And the wife wants Viva Pinata so probably will check that out. Sweet thanks guys! Keep 'em coming if you got 'em.
milescosmo's Destructoid Blog
Dont get OB if you already have it, portal is easy on console, in fact portal was much easier than people have said, best puzzle was the one with all the hugh platforms

Ikaruga, Rez, N+ are some great arcade games. Bioshock is a must. Also, Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out in June.
that1dood's Destructoid Blog
Gotta say, Ninja Gaiden 2 does not interest me in the slightest.
BlackSheep's Destructoid Blog
looking at your sidebar, i'd say go for some of the RPG's that xbox has.

specifically Lost Odyssey. Blue Dragon was okay, but just that.

oh and Culdcept Saga is a good game :) if you like TCG

also, congrats dude! that is a sweet gift. You have some great gaming ahead of you!!

I can recommend N+ as well. Great value for 10 bucks
naib's Destructoid Blog
Yeah, get Viva Piņata. Yeah, for the wife... That's it.

Y'all will be fighting over that shit.

Get Dead Rising if you can find it.
NotAZombie's Destructoid Blog
Rent Bioshock at the most, it's not even close to a buy. Also the arcade is a great way to go.
Char Aznable's Destructoid Blog
I picked up Crackdown and Oblivion for like $30 each used, so that was a hell of a deal for me (especially since the Gamestop guys put the GOTY edition discs in the regular Oblivion case). They're both very fun to play, but you should probably only check out Oblivion if you have a serious amount of time to put into the game. It's really addicting.

And yeah, buy some Microsoft points and check out a few quality XBLA titles like Street Fighter II, Castlevania: SOTN, and TMNT Arcade for $5-$10 each. You pretty much can't go wrong at that price, but try the demos first!

Dude, there is a StarCraft board game?!
JohnTheCrow's Destructoid Blog
Oblivion definitely. It'll eat away hours and hours of your life.

@Char Aznable
Heck yes there's a Starcraft board game, and it's awesome! However if you pick it up and play with people who do not typically play "complicated" board games often. (Carcassone, Settlers of Catan, Risk, Domaine.. you know, German games lol) It's going to be more like Argue Craft than Star Craft. Once you get it down though it's tons of fun!

BlindsideDork knows whats up.

Also Pac Man Championship Edition.
Char Aznable's Destructoid Blog
Man, that blew my fucking mind. That's way too in-depth for me to even think about playing, so I'd better stay away. I've just been a big SC fan since the game came out, but I've never played any serious board games of this type. I'm frightened.
that1dood's Destructoid Blog
@Char Aznable

It is intimidating at first, but once you get it, it's a piece of cake. If you have yet to play any really in depth board games, I would recommend something relatively simple like Domaine or Ticket to Ride. Then move up to Carcassone (which is a blast, btw!) and then try Starcraft. It's definitely complicated, but the system is fairly generic once you understand.

I say to at least try Assassin's Creed, who knows you might actually like it (I love it, but I'm weird like that)
galagabug 's Destructoid Blog
just buy rock band and all the ms points you can afford.

you won't have time for any other games.

get the skate. demo, if you like it, the rest of the game is more of the same.

if you haven't played portal and hl2, orange box is the best deal in gaming, ever.

I'm a chill guy. I like anime, games, technology in general. I'm pretty average for the most part. I'm married to a woman who's WAY to hot for me, but I'm okay with that. =D
