Recently an 15 year-old Australian was found in his house with the lights off playing
Runescape.
Sounds normal right? It would if he wasn't doing this for 2 months straight. He was hooked.
This kid used to be, according to his parents, a sporty kid and would never spend time inside of the house. According to
www.news.com.au he spent up to 16 hours a day playing the game. I'm not one for MMOs but something tells me that's a bit to much. His parents go on to state that is was impossible to get him to come inside 15 months ago and how he used to play every sport invented, but now they can't get him out of the house. Not only can the parents not get him back into sports but the parents aren't able to get him away from the computer without the kid going Chuck Norris
(Chuck makes this article epic).
Stuff like this doesn't really help parents understand gaming. The parents are now trying to contact others and
warn them about possible addiction that might occur while playing games.
His father goes on to state
I wonder what would've happened to this kid if he was exposed to WoW. He'd probably end up like Cartman on Southpark, M I RITE? This kid does need help but his parents need to realize that not all people are like this. There are cases of people being addicted to other things, but when it is a videogame it becomes an epidemic. Look at the Harry Potter books, now that caused an epidemic.
What people need to realize is that videogames are like everything else, and can be just as addictive. Have you ever been so into a television show that you might call in sick just to see a certain episode? Have you ever dug through your couch to find that quarter needed for a some soda? My point is life is addicting, and sometimes people will become insanely hooked to something. So if you think about life is an epidemic. O NOES!
But , seriously, that kid needs help. So have any of you anyone on Destructoid ever experienced an addiction to any game this great? If so leave your story in the comments.

over seven MILLION people are subscribed to World of Warcraft, and even if you consider that some people own more than one account, you still have to keep in mind that the majority of the millions have absolutely no problem with mixing their entertainment with the rest of their life.
Also, fuck harry potter, I've already read the Epilogue of the Deathly Hallows. Should I spoil it for everyone?
haha, that pic is epic!
Runescape blows. but maybe that's just me.
