Any Kirby fan should be very familiar with what is happening in this video, and understands who Kirby is as
a character in general, but how many of you have ever REALLY thought about what is going on here? A
simple plot for a Nintendo classic, or a thinly veiled Marxian fable?
Kirby lives in a time of corruption, greed, and oppression of the proletariat. he himself combines hte strengths
of all the citizens of Pop Star to form an unstoppable machine. King DeDeDe, a crude caricature of a over
fed, over payed, and over privileged bourgeois, has hoarded all the food(resources, money, means of
production, etc.) for himself in his palatial mountain top estate. All the Pop Star inhabitants are forced to go
hungry unless one of their own rises against the clearly incompetent capitalist front.
The ugly face of capitalism?
When Kirby storms DeDeDe's castle he quickly and easily dispatches the lazy and ultimately inferior penguin
king. Kirby then turns into a hot air balloon( I have no clue) and redistributes the wealth evenly among the
working class.
Kirby and DeDeDe are not the only members of the cast who fall in with these themes. The series even
features a character named Marx. While this character is a villain with self centered motives he is an
example of a those who operate under the name or communism or Marx, literally int his case to serve their
own selfish goals. He puts up a valiant effort but is eventually defeated by the people(Kirby). MetaKnight
serves as the might of the successful capitalist societies, especially their armed forces. For all their might,
resources(the halberd), and veil of invulnerability he always is bested by Kirby.
The implications of the story are more of a mystery. Is Kirby spreading communism a good or bad thing? As
members of a capitalist society are we supposed to be contributing to some one changing our way of life
with our actions( by playing as Kirby or our actions in real life)? Are we able to trust the narrative we are
presented with in the game? As an American directly contributing tot he spread of communism is somewhat
haunting.

Kirby is the villain. Dedede was hoarding the food to distribute it to the inhabitants of Dream Land and prevent Kirby from eating it all. Plus Dedede would need some food for himself in order to grow into a powerful and wise leader, not some retarded penguin. Kirby got jealous and stormed the castle to get all the food back for himself but it just so happened that along the way he developed a taste for flesh and instead decided to give the food back to all the citizens. This was merely a ploy so he could fatten them up for later consumption.
Lest not forget Kirby's Adventure where Dedede was trying to prevent the release of Nightmare by removing the star rod. But then Kirby comes along and fucks everything up. Dedede even had to launch Kirby after it so he could clean up the mess he made.
Dedede is simply misunderstood. Imagine all the trouble and anxiety he has to go through when he tells the families of the castle guards that their loved ones were horribly beaten and mutilated and then haplessly consumed by a maniacal pink marshmallow?
Ever see anyone go on a worldwide murderous rampage over a piece of stolen strawberry shortcake?
Kirby isn't the will of the people. HE'S A MONSTER!
You have to also understand that communism isn't necessarily bad. We have just seen it used in bad ways. Not to say that I'm a communist. However, imagine combining the stories of Zeketheplumber and taumpytears. With Dedede being a good leader in a communist country and Kirby over throwing the king.
Zeketheplumber has it right kirby is the villain, he kills helpless creatures and trees, TRASHED metaknights ship for no reaspn. And went on that rampage for the shortcake =[
I don't think King Dedede is a bourgeois. If anything, he would be of the nobility (c'mon, KING?). Although he could have bought his way into such stature...
Everything else seems extremely plausible. Good thinking!

Dude, you may have just blown my mind :D
I completely disagree.

Hm, I've never thought of it that way.
