Most Anticipated Game

In the beginning I thought achievements were completely worthless. As time has gone on I've become somewhat of an achievement junkie.

Hail to the king---------------^
While browsing through the interwebs I stumbled upon a site that had a top 20 list of the most valuable games to date. As I scanned through the list which ranged from games that were worth 175 dollars up to 10,000+ dollars, I ask myself why would someone pay into the thousands of dollars for a simple cartridge? Ranking with cards and comics as one of the top things to collect video games have a special place in our minds and hearts. While I collect as many games as I can I don't think I would spend high amounts of currency for one simple game. The thrill of the hunt is my favorite thing about collecting. Going to yard sales and old thrift markets and searching through stacks of old stuff that unknowing pack rats have finally pulled out of their attics and basements to clear space for new age material. While my collection isn't very vast I could finally understand where high dollar collectors were coming from. Also what else is filthy rich gamers gonna spend money on?

Here is the site where I found them on, its pretty dated but still has some good information. I read some of the comments on there and it got me thinking, how many of my fellow destructoid members own any of these or any other rare games?

Nice find. Believe it or not, I actually own one of those games...Air Raid. I never knew what it was worth until now. Thanks.

I would spend that much money on that nes game if I was rich and I had all the other nes games. I'm sure that for many collectors who own every other NES carts it must be irritating to not own that one. I'm a collector for too many things but my video game collection is sacred for me. I try to buy everything complete in box unless the carts only are really cheap.

I remember buying a Holy Grail Disgaea at an EB. It felt like Atlus's love letter to those who bought Ogre Battle 64 and Kartia. Now the game isn't worth half what i paid for it.
On the other hand, now that Nippon and Atlus both release an RPG every season I feel like it was worth sacrificing such a rarity for the greater good.

Oh my fucking God, who in their right mind would fork over $10,000+ for one of these games? Many people don't have enough money to provide food for their families, and then assholes are spending over $10,000 on a 20-year-old video game. That makes me sick.

There's a few more that aren't on that list or in the honorable mentions.

Recca for the Famicom, for example, will easily sell for 200+ if not more. It's still a decent list though. ^^ I sadly do not own any of them. Mostly because I'm a cheap SOB.
