About Me
My names Matt, better known as SwiftKarateChop from youtube. I’m just your everyday guy but….much cooler haha. I’m from alabama, just recently moved to California, so I rock the custom accent. I’ve been gaming since I was about 3 and still going strong. I love all types of games, from fps, rts, to mmorpg. I’m a PC junkie.

STAR WARS = LOVE (yes I AM A SITH LORD) muhahaha

I am extremely easy to get along with and I love making people laugh.

I AM A NOOB?!
swiftkaratechop | 5:40 PM on 05.12.2008 20 comments

So today I find myself wondering "Matt what is the origin of the word NOOB"
and since I talk to myself i was like "dude i really don't know BUT i bet somebody in dtoid land does".

So i hopped on my level 75 epic fiery mount and galloped onto dtoid.

Does anybody know what the word "noob" is derived from?
It is a word I enjoy using SO SO MUCH, but its like when a five year old says testicle and then laughs because he doesn't know what it means.
*why say newbie, i understand the new part but bie!?!?! what does BIE EVEN MEAN?!?!?*

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

It's probably a verbal corruption of "new boy"

i dont really know, but i take newbie to mean new person who doesnt really know how to play good yet, and noob to mean 'YOU SUCK YOU LOSER HAHAHA ITS LIKE YOUVE ONLY PLAYED FOR LIKE 2 MINUTES THATS HOW MUCH YOU SUCK I PWNZOR YOUR FACE".

but as for origin, newbie probably just came from new and adding something to make it a descriptive thingy, and then noob came from that cos its faster to say.

It's derived from the Latin term NUBUS CUNTIS.

hahah yea like so many people use it to be derogatory but what if the origins of the real word was something like "Master of all"

we would all be screwed then haha/

It's just an "evolution" of n00b. What's more interesting is the evolution of l33tsp34k altogether, which originated as a way for hackers to avoid detection by government agencies by substituting numbers and symbols for letters.

The REAL root of "newbie" that it can be traced back to usage among U.S. troops in the Vietnam War as a slang term for a new man in a unit before entering popular discourse by way of the Internet.

"bie" is a pejorative that describes something that is smaller, or less. Dweebie. Newbie. Kid, childish.
