About Me
My name is Dave, I'm 23 and after a rather unfortunate turn of events my employer had to close their doors (Go Economy). I've been playing video games now for about 17 years. I started playing games on my fathers Atari 2600 and was hooked from there on out. I think my favorite system would be the Snes, because it had what I will probably always consider to be the greatest library of games. As far as games go I'll play pretty much anything once, but I'm especially fond of Rpgs, Strategy Rpgs, 2D fighters, and Platformers.

So since my last blog I've been mulling over what I can do to make things somewhat interesting. So I've decided to review the games that I played growing that really left an impact on me as a gamer. The first game that I've decided to do is one of my favorite games of all time, Final Fantasy II on the SNES.

In a time before 3D graphics, Giant swords, effeminate blond men, and roman numerals where accurate. When common rpg cliches where still considered original there was a game called final fantasy II.

Never before had I seen a game that offered such an intricate look into the life of a character in a video game ( granted this was 14 years ago and I was 9 at the time). From the moment I saw Cecil captain of the Red Wings steal away the crystal of water from the town of Mysidia I was hooked. The cast of characters where unlike any I had ever seen before. To me they all seemed so real. I still get chills when I think back to some of the plot twists. This next section may be slightly spoilerish so if you plan on actually playing this game in it's original form or buying the DS remake I suggest that you not read any further.

The story of this game was incredible for it's time, and to me it still is compared to some of the rpgs that have been released after it. So many final fantasy's afterwards have taken things that this game originated. It was the first U.S. Final Fantasy that introduced series fans to a love story that would drive the plot forward. It was a story of love, betrayal, and redemption. It was also the first game that introduced me to main party members dieing or “Appearing to die”. It was the longest game I had ever played at the time clocking in at a long 34 hours ( although recently I've gotten to the end in I think 18 hours).

The one thing that totally blew my mind though ( and it was fucking original then dammit) was when Kain not only once but twice decides to say “Fuck you guys I'm gonna be evil now”. I mean yeah sure now everyone knows now when your best friend is in your party that you'll lose them, and either kill them later on or show them the “light” ( Side note: Snowe from Suikoden 4 was a complete Cock Bag). That and the fact that Golbez turns out being your brother.

This to me has been the best final fantasy to date, and I can't wait for the DS remake. End Rant.

Feel free to leave comments or tell me I suck or whatever.[img][/img][img][/img][img]

I feel like you, not my favorite ff, but still among the best made, I'm sticking with FF4 for the best Retro FF.

I don't think there are going to do a DS remake, but the PSP version is really good, I played it for a while but I'm glad I got the GBA port.

Actually a DS remake is already out in Japan and a supposed U.S. release date has been released. It's supposedly july 22, and I can't wait.

FF4 is my favorite RPG of all time. Before there was GameFAQs, there was me with a notebook charting every single creature and the number of HP and their weaknesses on paper. :P

FF2/4 was amazing, and Golbez's theme still resonate in my head. I'm currently playing FF5 and the story really sucks compared to 4. Of course 6 can't be beaten but ff4 was my first rpg and I was blow away.
