Quest for the 20Gig PS3 (Kind of VGR)

It's been a while since I've posted a comment or blog on Dtoid, but I finally have Internet access again. Not to much has happened in my life lately except trying to get a fully backwards compatible PS3. I had started playing persona 4 and was around 4.5 hours into the game but when I couldn't see which rooms I was entering, and where I was going I became extremely frustrated. About a week and a half later my wife and I were in the local K-Mart, and to my surprise they had two 20 gig PS3's. Now I know that the text not showing to some may seem like it wouldn't be a big deal, and I could just as easily get a PS2, but I'm really picky when it comes to things like that.

My wife, being the wonderful woman she is, said lets just put one of these on layaway and we can sell the one you have now. So we put a 20gig on layaway, and a few days later put my ps3 up on Ebay with a buy it now price of $350. Auction 1 was riddled with fake bids and people with day old accounts, and after a week we had to re list. Not to mention that buy it now is completely different now than it was used to. When we went to list a second time we decided to alter some of the bidder requirements, but so far things aren't looking to be going so well.

I really hate to ask anyone in the community for money, but I may as well link the auction here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=300305853634

If you guys have any questions just send me a message here or to my wife's Ebay account.   read

Some game suggestions

So I just earned somewhere around 1500 points on goozex this evening (1000 for Suikoden and another 500 for Rock band 1 Disc) and I was wondering if anyone had some game suggestions. And yes I know forums are that way------> , but they're still down.

And I know Suikoden is a classic, but for 1000 points to me it was worth it.

I know nothing on that site is a guarantee so I'd like to have a large list of things picked out in my mind ahead of time. I'd really like to get some rpgs and plaformers that I missed out on last generation, preferably for the ps1/2.

Some things on my mind already:
Xenosaga 1-3
Dragonquest 8
Star Ocean 3
Okami
Ico
SotC

Thanks in advance.

I also hought that this should be shared, because I found it rather entertaining.

A Legacy lost in time.

I've only written one blog on games really and I thought that it was about time I wrote another. I feel that the particular series I'm going to be writing about never really gets the attention it deserves. his is sort of a pseudo review of the series, and my opinion on how it ends I guess. The series this write up is about holds a place in my heart for having one of the best stories involving time travel and destiny I've come across. I'm of course talking about the Legacy of Kain game series. This will a few spoilers so if you don't want the series ruined you may wish to stop reading here.

It was 1997 when I first stepped foot into the medieval land of Nosgoth, and I was 11 years old. This night I remember particularly well because I was staying at a friends house and his mother told me I was going to hell for playing a game about Satan. I remember the opening to Blood Omen very well. I remember starting off in the Tavern as the weary young nobleman Kain, and then being struck down by what seemed to be a random band of thieves as you left. When this happened my young mind couldn't quite grasp what was going on. Why would you kill the main character of the game within 5 minutes and not let me do anything to prevent this? Did I do something wrong? Then the first FMV began and we see our hero Kain hung by his in what appears to be hell. He is then given the option to come back from the dead to get his revenge. Our Anti-Hero of course chooses revenge and is brought back not as a human but as a vampire.

I've never quite finished the original, but have come close many times. The next game in the series was the first that I ever actually owned for myself which was Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. It came out in 1999 and did for the Kain series what Ocarina of Time did for Zelda, and that was bring everything into 3D. It also changed who you're protagonist was. In Soul Reaver you play as Raziel one of Kain's lieutenants. In the beginning of the game Raziel is cast into the lake of the damned by Kain because he evolved before Kain. I'll never forget watching Kain tear the bone from Raziel's new wings. This game ( as well as Soul Reaver 2) has to with chasing down Kain and trying to find your true destiny. Time Travel in introduced in the end of the first Soul Reaver and stays a major part of the story right up until the end of the series.

The last game of the series Defiance has been judged harshly by many fans. Either you love it or hate it. Personally it's one of my favorite games in the series. In this game for the first time you play as both Kain and Raziel. The game unfolds in chapters. Both characters are stuck in different times which to me made the game very interesting. You visit a lot of the same locations, but the appear very different because the large difference of time between your visits. While this game does a good job wrapping up the events that have unfolded between Kain and Raziel over the past few games it also ends with a new threat being revealed. It saddens me to think that this series will probably never be finished. Shortly after the last games completion director/writer Amy Hennig and game designer Richard Lemarchand both left Crystal Dynamics, and in 2006 Tony Jay ( A key Voice actor in the series) died. I do hope though that Crystal Dynamics does finish this series. The more time that passes however the more likely it is that this series will be forgotten, and that a true ending will never be created.

*Blood Omen 2 wasn't mentioned intentionally, because it's events are a result of a time Paradox in Soul Reaver 2, and is not considered canon by many fans.

* Writing like this is not my strongest suit, but I figured I'd give it a shot.   read

SSF2HD Tournament (PS3)

So I've been a member of D-toid for a while now, but haven't been very active in the community. I've posted 2 blogs and commented in a few front page articles but nothing major. While I was looking over my games I saw what I feel would be a perfect prize for a Street Fighter 2 HD Tournament. Something that would show why this new HD SF2 is just as amazing now as when SF2 was originally released. And that prize is........Street Fighter EX3. I know it's not really much of a prize more of a gag really, but I figured what the hell. If enough interest is shown I'll update this blog later with tournament rules and details,   read

Retro Rant.

So since my last blog I've been mulling over what I can do to make things somewhat interesting. So I've decided to review the games that I played growing that really left an impact on me as a gamer. The first game that I've decided to do is one of my favorite games of all time, Final Fantasy II on the SNES.

In a time before 3D graphics, Giant swords, effeminate blond men, and roman numerals where accurate. When common rpg cliches where still considered original there was a game called final fantasy II.

Never before had I seen a game that offered such an intricate look into the life of a character in a video game ( granted this was 14 years ago and I was 9 at the time). From the moment I saw Cecil captain of the Red Wings steal away the crystal of water from the town of Mysidia I was hooked. The cast of characters where unlike any I had ever seen before. To me they all seemed so real. I still get chills when I think back to some of the plot twists. This next section may be slightly spoilerish so if you plan on actually playing this game in it's original form or buying the DS remake I suggest that you not read any further.

The story of this game was incredible for it's time, and to me it still is compared to some of the rpgs that have been released after it. So many final fantasy's afterwards have taken things that this game originated. It was the first U.S. Final Fantasy that introduced series fans to a love story that would drive the plot forward. It was a story of love, betrayal, and redemption. It was also the first game that introduced me to main party members dieing or “Appearing to die”. It was the longest game I had ever played at the time clocking in at a long 34 hours ( although recently I've gotten to the end in I think 18 hours).

The one thing that totally blew my mind though ( and it was fucking original then dammit) was when Kain not only once but twice decides to say “Fuck you guys I'm gonna be evil now”. I mean yeah sure now everyone knows now when your best friend is in your party that you'll lose them, and either kill them later on or show them the “light” ( Side note: Snowe from Suikoden 4 was a complete Cock Bag). That and the fact that Golbez turns out being your brother.

This to me has been the best final fantasy to date, and I can't wait for the DS remake. End Rant.

Feel free to leave comments or tell me I suck or whatever.[img]   read

I'm 23 and have been playing games now for a little over 17 years. Anyways just thought I'd introduce myself, and will make a better post sometime in the future.

The welcomes and the blog trolling starts.....now.   read
