Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
You might want to post this to the forums too. Good luck!
If you're writing a dissertation, maybe you should use some fucking grammar. That way you don't look like a 14 year old on AIM.
I still don't understand what the fuck you're talking about.
It's a little early to start researching your dissertation. It's not even due until tomorrow.
Get drunk instead.
I'm not a game dev, but I eat lunch with them sometimes. Here's what I think they would say their top 5 things are:
1. Documentation - The most powerful engine in the world is shit without supporting in-engine help and online/print resources to help developers actually use the thing.
2. Out the box functionality - 1 click cloth? 1 click physics? Quick sandbox preview? Sold.
3. Extensibility - The last thing you want to hear is "this engine doesn't support this, and you can't add it on".
4. Portability - Build once, port to many systems.
5. Price.
thanks niero thats great help I think I can get some good writting out of that you have permission to hug your monitor
Well, I hope this is for a high school project and not for college. Otherwise, I think it's safe to say you're fucked. Sorry. Try harder next time, or select a topic that won't require phone calls to video game developers.
Also read the rules, the c-blogs are not for asking questions. On top of that this is your first post and you didn't make a proper intro blog or get a avatar. So you know what, I hope you fail.
Dissertation? I swear you have to write that over a period of months?
They don't teach punctuation in that fancy learnin' school of yours?
lol at orcist
Good lord, you or your school better be misusing the term "dissertation." If not, I hope that you're screwed. No offense bud, but I don't your work yielding the same certification as the 8 months of research I'm just finishing up.
You would probably get better feedback if your question was "what makes a shitty game engine". Because there are definitely more examples of shitty engines than good ones.
