So, again,
here is another Cell loving interview.
We’ve been using the Cell for pretty much all our systems: rendering, particles, physics simulation, collision detection, animation, AI, decompression, water simulation, etc … and to give you an idea of the power of the PS3, we're using only 30 percent of the Cell processor.
So they are using only 30%. Great. Well I admit uncharted is a great game, it looks good, and probably plays good too, but... When they have the power why don't make it much more smooth? There are a lot of issues with explosions, water and so on... Well they have 70% lying around and doing nothing. I just don't understand them, they have the pover, the possibility, and let say the knowledge to make a greater game, so what?
Probably this is really just another PS3 loving bastard, telling some trash information. What I'm more interested how much they are using the RSX? Well actually it's made for graphics, not the Cell...
It's interesting, that the PS3 wants to shift in a more CPU dependent way of rendering, while PC and X360 wants to forget the CPU and use only the GPU for the rendering (and much more of course, physics, ik and so on). So we well see which one will be the winner, time will tell. But I'm afraid Cell will lose (well I'm happy actually), thanks to the development of the R700-R800 and the next generation NVidia processors (well let's just say next generation, nvidia quite screwed up their naming conventions lately).
Just some information. Compared to a dual core desktop chip, which is capable of 32 GFlops (in most cases both in 32 and 64 bit), the cell outpower it 6.7 to 1 (assuming cell has 205 Gflops of processing power). But when it comes to 64 bit, the PC wins up to 2.28 to 1 (the cell has only 14 GFlops of power in 64 bit). And 64 is not only for handling more memory, but making all of the calculations with a far more better precision.
BTW, im a 360, Wii owner that sold PS3 6 months ago.
Man up and get to cracking on using 100% of the cell.
