I was raised on the Commodore and 386 computers, and then Sega Genesis. Thus my gaming identity was formed by a steady diet of Shareware(one word: Apogee), floppy disks, and rented Genesis games.
From there I went into the pupae stage with the Saturn and Nintendo 64, emerging from my cocoon with an Xbox.
These days, my time is spent on my 360 and Dreamcast. My PSP mostly finds use as an awkward mp3 player.
I work in advertising in NYC. As a graduate of PSU, when I'm not playing games or murdering vagrants, I'm following college football(JoePa is my religion)
Currently in rotation:
Halo 3
ODST
Far Cry 2
Turok
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
so much for that...
right to the balls.
crap.
It's Namcai's fault for starting the increase of this mess? Everybody Katamary? Tales of Vespira? SOOOOUL CALIBURRR 4!!!!?
Capcom gets my hate because they are an industry leader. Sure, other companies have pulled bullshit DLC before. But charging for a basic game mode that games have always included for free is taking it to a whole new level. Now that we know they are charging for something on the disc to begin with, that's even more insulting.
And Capcom is doing this with the most highly anticipated game of 2009.
That means this vs. mode will sell. And that will set a bad precedent for the rest of the industry. As I said in my original post, who knows what kind of nickle and diming this will lead to.
I know that not the point, but what can you do?!
It's not like Capcom is charging for alternate outfits and characters...
My friends and I are having a blast playing it, through the yelling and screaming. It's frustrating fun, if that makes sense. It's almost silly at times... Sidestepping a point blank magnum round! =)
If you don't like it, don't buy it, son.
I know that not the point, but what can you do?!"[/i]
Buy a different game?
"If you don't like it, don't buy it, son."
I don't know if I don't like it, I've never played it.
If they really thought that the mode deserved a separate purchase from RE5, then I think it would have made more sense if they sold it as a stand alone XBLA/PSN title that could complement the retail version in some way.
One thing to understand, video games are a business, plain and simple.
Although that doesn't mean we have to like the practices, but it is a business.
DLC is the newest way for companies to make more money... Period.
DLC isn't going away anytime soon, much to our chagrin.
It's ok that you like the vs. I'm not saying don't buy it.
It's just that is setting a terrible precedent for developers to continue to hold back game modes and charge for them. Game modes that have always been free. That blows.
I agree with ya, man...
It's a terrible practice that isn't going away, if anything it will get worse!
