I'm sorry to hear that.
Personally I was interested in Dead Space, Fallout 3, and Gears 2. But instead of buying those games, I went and bought a bunch of PS1 games off ebay.
If the new games aren't interesting you, that's alright. Perhaps if you feel like it, you can get some older games that you might have had a passing interest in but missed.
If money is the issue you could probably find some good games in a bargain bin somewhere (The Red Star, God Hand, Viewtiful Joe). Or there's XBLA/PSN and how every many good games you can get there for cheap.
But hey, if you're good with what you got, what more do you need?

I sometimes find myself not really caring about games anymore. I tend to drift in and out of periods where im heavily into games and then other periods when im not. I guess its the same for everybody. Give it a while and hopefully your interest will return (if you want it to)
Love your last line...
Perhaps you feel the whole game hype-machine is becoming too much. I kind of wish things would just come out without many pre-conceptions to think about.
You'll be looking back and wondering what the hell happened in a few months time, back to loving the whole thing, or maybe not. It's not unusual to get tired of something.

It's nothing to worry about. Although I will partly raise my hand & agree with you; it sounds like your just growing up. Find a good si-fi book, or take in a few more anime shows for a while.
Try "Infinite Ryvius", "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
I have this weird thing about getting pumped about a lot games coming out, but after actually getting them home. Play them for a while & then they just sit on the shelf for a few months till I finally come back & maybe play them again. Remember when SKATE was first announced, & Burnout Paradise.... Even Mario Galaxy I haven’t finished yet.
The Worst offender of them all though is, SSBB. I was on the Smash site EVERY Day, following it for F*&ing five months, IGN all that, before its LONG Australian release, I very nearly imported the US version at one stage. As soon as I got it in the mail, was excited as hell! Played it for a day, ......"eh, this is cool" Haven’t played it since. Seriously. Just haven’t got around to it.
So if it’s just a bit of re-assurance you want then you got it! “Don’t worry; it’s just natural for some people to fell that way.” –Though once you Hit 30, it’s all OVER!
Hey, you know what I did a couple of weeks ago. After reading the “Girl-WLTT” Manga & countless re-runs of FLCL, I bought two baseball bats L&R handed baseball gloves, balls & now hit the ball on the beach in the after noon, or at the footy oval every Saturday night with me mates! Coming from an aussie, “Baseball is SO fun!”

I do. Haven't turned the console on for myself in... about a year now. I play with friends, but that's it. And that's.. dying too.
Now, i just have pc and ps2, and i can't afford any console right now (not that i mind), so my comment might not weight much. Really, everything new looks nice, but it's stuff i really don't mind missing out on. Metal gear 4 i thought i had to play, then i just watched the cutscenes on youtube, finding out the ending. Pretty cool, but not worth the time and money.
I don't know how old you are, but i think i'm growing out of gaming. Maybe you are too.

I've gone through periods where I just got burned out on games. I'd go a month or two without touching them at all. It could be the same for you; just take a break from them a while, and chances you'll find yourself getting the itch to play again. And with luck, most of the current new releases will have been marked down by them.
I agree with Mxy, if you take a break it will come back. I'm in line with what you're saying too. I'm in a mini slump right now. It's just really hard for me to find the good points in games instead of just picking out all the bad parts.
I go through phases like this. None of the games I own interest me (not like I have 20...I've got over 300 spanning multiple systems, going back to the NES), could care less about new titles out/coming out...so I take a break. Eventually, I return and get right back into my obsession.
As Kapkomi said, sometimes I regress and play older games. At the moment, I'm doing a play-through of Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and starting Bully over from scratch.
And Lastskysamurai, I am in the same boat with SSBB. I checked that damned site every day...even on the weekends, when I knew there would be no updates. I'd read about previews, speculations, anything SSBB-related. Got the game on release day, took it home, beat the sub-space missions...and that was it. Probably played it for about a week or two. Compared to the length of time I played Melee, it really wasn't worth it. It's a great game, don't get me wrong...but it was just a polished version of Melee. It didn't really take the franchise in a different direction. It gave us more of the same. And the online aspect was really disappointing. I'd play with a friend of mine that lives about 5 minutes away, and I think we had 1 out of 10 matches that was lag-free.

May help to avoid the hype. Hype and post release hype-kill can really wreck the feeling. Especially when its attached to games that have been talked about and anticipated for a while.
It also doesn't help that used games are no where near as price dropped as they were in the ps2 generation. Skate, the Club and Halo 3 are STILL $55 used at GameStop. Kinda ridiculous. It just not the same landscape of aftermarket game enjoyment, which really kept *me* going when I was kinda losing interest/enjoyment a few years back.

Sorry to hear that, man. Just know that the community will always be here, and will welcome you back with open arms when you're ready.
It's fine to take breaks. It's hard for non-gamers to believe it but us gamers do get burned out of playing every once in awhile. For me, it's sometimes due to just general depression and other times because I'll lose interest and find something more entertaining. My advice is to just go out and try new things. Shake things up a bit.
QUIT PLAYING WoW!!! I was in the same boat as you last year and ended up quitting WoW and EQ2 (and pretty much any MMO). After about a month or two my gaming self came back and I'm better than ever.
For some reason the MMO market tends to kill off my gaming habit and make it into a chore or job rather than actually being fun.

I feel the same way, but for different reasons.
I don't feel as if most games are complete products anymore. It feels as if they're just platforms for DLC; repeatedly dipping their hands into gamer's pockets once they make the initial purchase.
The exceptions (Valve, Criterion with Burnout Paradise) are far outnumbered by everyone else.
The hype machine has to go too. Too many crap games with multi-million marketing campaigns and not enough development time.
I think its because I'm getting old. I'm 32; my priorities have undergone a seismic shift in the past year. So yeah, I'm growing out of gaming. I'll just stick with fighting games, Left 4 Dead and the occasional DS game during my commute. That's all I have time for anyway nowadays.

I'm exactly the opposite, I was in a bit of a dark spot where I was not really getting any new games but in the past 4 or so weeks I've gotten Fable 2, Saints Row 2, and I AM HYPED AS FUCKING SHIT for MIRRORS EDGE. I WOULD THROW MONEY AT DICE FOR THAT GAME!
Yeah I decided I'm not gonna play wow in wrath of the lich king. I still don't obsess too much over news still, but I'm in IRC most of the time, so I know what's hawt at the moment. I played the demo for mirror's edge and I'm excited for that though.
This happened to me a while back. I wonder if it could be linked to depression, not saying that either of us were, but apparently you can be afflicted with it and not even know it.
Thanks for the great responses. I don't think I can quit hanging around, but I think I may just be getting tired of new games. Mirrors edge demo was really fun. I think I need some NEW games. I can see why people enjoy a game like Gow2 but I feel like I've been there done that. Meh hopefully 2009 gets better.
