Buy the game and go play it on a friends PS3. That way you save yourself $600.
game , most of my interest in playing is to see what happens next( and the combat) but wanting to know what happens next is where alot of the motivation comes from. if you really have the intention of enjoying this game down the line avoid all spoiler's.
I'd hold off, or just wait till Dell does another 20% off coupon and pick up the PS3 for $300. It's a fantastic console and isn't going to get cheaper than that for a while unless there's some crazy deal on Black Friday or something.
Play the game first, and watch the animu after. You can also read the mango if it ever comes out in English or gets fanslated (yes, there is a mango).
I've seen the animu and read the mango, and I have to say watching either first will simply rob you of the impact the game had on me and the people who played it unspoiled.
Buy the game before it gets rare, even if you don't have a system to play it with. Trust me. I know things.
Play the game. Games are gooder then books and movis lol.
@Garison: Sadly few of my friends are gamers, and the ones that are don't have a PS3. Plus they'd have to be really good friends to let me play a JRPG. :)
And alright, you guys have convinced me to wait until I get a PS3. Dang it, and I just saw the episode where they introduced Maximilian and recognized him as Lelouch from Code Geass.
@Unangbangkay: Yeah I'll prob wait for the price to drop another $10, then pick it up in case it starts to go scarce. Thats what saved me when Okami came out for PS2.

But you said it yourself, it would ruin your game probably. Just wait a little bit longer and embrace the awesomeness of the game unspoiled.
i still haven't gotten it, too many other great games i need to get before this. but just get the ps3, its worth it.
@Takeshi: haha, I know its May, I just tend to think very long-term. Anything 2009 is near future, and 2010 is only a year away (so almost here in my mind). 2011 is when the plans start to get hazy, at least for now. :)
@Qraze: yeah there's stuff I want to play on the PS3, but damn it, my backlog just keeps growing. Have to finish fallout 3, play star ocean 4, tales of vesperia, finish persona 3 and 4, finish valkyrie profile and odin sphere, and at some point start okami.
I think I just realized what I need to do: I need to win the lottery. That is my new career/life goal.
Totally the game, then the anime, im watching it too, and though it has it subtle differences its pretty much the same story and visuals are WAY better than the anime.
Watching Eden of the East and its sheer WIN, also watching second season of full metal alchemist.
