Today, Blizzard released their Q&A's regarding Warlocks and their futures in 3.2 and beyond.
Some major highlights of this Q&A session include:
Demonology's (using pets to greatly increase damage) damage is mediocre compared to Affliction (Using shadow DoTs (damage over time) to increase DPS greatly) and Destruction (using mainly caster spells to greatly increase damage (two types: Shadow Destro and Fire Destro)) and will try to fix it so demonology becomes a more viable spec.
Blizzard believes that the gameplay between Warlocks and Mages are too similar, and they are wanting to change gameplay to differ.
Warlocks need to be represented more in PvP
Basic idea for the new Soul Shard system: Soul Shards will provide a combat (damage) boost, but should not be something Locks need to farm. This change will be beyond Patch 3.2., with more information ideally at BlizzCon 2009.
The Cooldown for SoulShatter (Warlock's main aggro dump) will be reduced to three minutes
Blizzard is considering giving Warlocks different pet designs/models
Blizzard is looking into the possibility of Warlock-exclusive mounts
Blizzard wants to make pets scale with stats
All in all, it looks like Warlocks are going to get some buffs come 3.2, and then some. PvP may become much more viable for warlocks, and pets may play a major part in PvP and PvE. If all goes well, I may just start leveling my warlock again. :)
I am reporting news from the WoW website, the main source for all WoW news. My news is reliable and I give my opinion either at the start or finish, and that is key in my blogs. If you know of any other WoW news not from the website, you know, kind of like the one about the trademark of the cataclysm (oh, that's one blog I didn't get from the forums), then please tell me. I'm pretty sure other WoW websites get their information from the one place Blizzard posts, which would be (incindentally) Worldofwarcraft.com.
Oh, no one's forcing you to read this.
Kind of...it's a little weird to just post WoW news nearly every day. I think you should make a blogspot, segWAY, and link it in the about me page. It seems like you have a lot to say about WoW, but your news posts (ie links) push people's original writings down the page and out of view. Also, I'd say the people on this site interested in WoW is abysmal (a lot of former players), so making a WoW blogspot would help increase your audience as well.
I'm not trying to increase my audience, I'm trying to give video game news, and I do believe that World of Warcraft is a video game. As for people's interest being abysmal on this site, I'm writing a community blog, which will give people who are interested (as low as it may be) some news on this site. Now, if big bloggers on the home page of the site, such as Brad Nicholson or Jim Sterling were to write entirely about WoW, that would be weird. Also, since WoW activity on this site is abysmal, I could also respond to that by saying that my blogs, as low as the audience might be, might attract some people that aren't really interested in WoW to my blogs and they might get interested in playing WoW themselves. But thank you for the advice, I'll check out the blogspot.
What Magnalon said, I wasn't saying your blog sucks, I was saying it doesn't seem very fit for a community more, rather it should be a blog of it's own since it's content is very specific. I can appreciate the idea of possibly bringing people to WoW, regardless of how unlikely that is, but you haven't even made an intro blog dude, at least do one of those!
Segway... an intro blog is a blog telling the community a bit a more about you... who you are, what games you play/like - just more information to introduce yourself as a member on the site.
... and just a thought, but what about the concept of a weekly blog rolling all the WOW news into one blog. This might be easier for people that play WOW and might provide a better service than for people to have to be looking through a variety of different blogs.
... and another thought... I don't actually play WOW, but I do enjoy a good read about the adventures/things that happen when other people play online with their friends. It would give original content and might be of more interest to those of us that don't actually play the game. (I used to read the blogs of another person who still played FF online and I always found them a lot of fun, even though I didn't play!)
You basically summarize a blue Blizzard staff post, and don't really say how it affects you, or give any notion of your real life attitudes or mannerisms. You are detached from the post. Also, anyone who really cares about straight WoW news will be reading the forums.
This is how you can put people on to WoW:
Not writing a few sentences on how some weird stat change will affect Warlocks' procs (I used to play heavily).
Write a few blogs about your experiences playing the game: "My life as a raider". "My life as a PVP Warlock". "Day 343: Arena Master". "Uldrar is vanquished! (with fraps screens, and an in-depth experience of how everyone felt).
Write about what makes WoW the best MMO on the market
Write "What ifs: WoW's third expansion"
Write "Did you Know? Wow actually has a great backstory - The Burning Legion"
Something that would get people excited to play it. I loved WoW, and as much of a bad rap it gets in the gaming world, it truly delivers some of the most unique experiences ever: mostly the social aspect. I think if you wrote less stats/news and more experienced based blogs, you would turn into the "WoW Dtoid guy", and that's actually really cool. You should go all out, man: change your avatar into your character from the game (take a screenshot). I think your passion for the game would really make for some unique blogging.
As for the intro, fill in the about me with a little info about yourself (My name is ... and I'm a WoW addict. I currently have an 80 Lock, 80 Spriest, and 80 Fury Warrior). People will comment in your blogs and go "oh dude! I used to play fury too!". Thanks for taking the comments constructively, I think you'll do fine.
I used to have a 70 Spriest and 70 Enhance Shaman, by the way. One alliance, one horde (you get 100% of the map!). I had alts in every class at level 20, but nothing really struck me as fun as the two I previously mentioned. I KIND OF wanted to make a 19 twink rouge, but raiding really put the kibosh on that.
Also, I raided until we beat Illidan and quit before Sunwell. And...I LOVE Harry Potter (the movies, really, I didn't enjoy reading them after Azhkabhan). Like I said, I think you'll fit in great.
