Why Persona 4's Ending is Bunk SPOILERS FOR BOTH PERSONA 3 AND 4!
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 17 comments

Before I start, I gotta make sure I say that I absolutely adored the rest of the game, and thought it was all near perfect, save the end game. That, and that the images are all from this amazing mashup and should hopefully counteract the fail that is the rest of this blog >.<

My problems started with Adachi. I LOVED the idea of him as the killer all along. The twists with Namatame were brilliant, and everything fit together so perfectly, so when I thought about it, it made so perfect sense. There were enough clues you could look back at and make it all plausible. Confronting him was great, and I was so tense and excited to hear the master criminals' evil monologue explaining his dastardly plan, his motive and reason for creating the games main conflict were basically "Yeah, I did it for the lulz," which work wonderfully for characters like Kefka and Porky, but only when there backstories, and thus the reason for their immature nihilism are properly explained. With Adachi were just presented with a one dimensional schmuck whose potentially fascinating backstory is never even hinted at. Hell, Persona 3's Strega had their entire history summed up in some pre- and post- fight dialogue, and it not only managed to be satisfying, but utterly horrifying and tragic as well. (It's hard to top Revolver Jesuselot and Bomberman though ;))

After he's defeated though, things start to get interesting, as the true (well for now) mastermind is revealed. Excited, I wrung my hands in anticipation over what horrible do-badder this could be. Adachi may have been flat, but this newcomer would surely prove a fascinating and sufficiently complex villain!

...

Or it could just be a Rainbow Deathstar... That works too...

Jokes aside, his design did grow on me as the fight went on, and I ended up rather digging it. The problem was that Amigo-Senpai (or at least that's how my phonetically deficient mind read it ;)) turned out to be nothing more then a decidedly less awesome rip off of Persona 3's Nyx. A godly being misinterprets a flaw present in humanity as a whole as a universal desire for life to be extinguished (in the literal sense for Nyx and in the sense of Amigo’s (I can't help but imagine him chilling with Samba de Amigo’s monkey star now XD) plan for a shadow world) only to be trounced by our beloved heroes(and I don't mean that in any sarcastic way whatsoever, I genuinely adore both 3 and 4's cast in ways that almost no other game characters can garner :3) who throw a wench in their belief through there sheer determination and heart, which the villain now begrudgingly respects. It worked perfectly in 3, but doing it over again just seemed so stale, and it wasn't even that good of a ripoff. Nyx is introduced far earlier, and while there are certainly twists when you meet her face to "face", she and her basic motives are explained sufficiently early enough so that you have enough time to lament the upcoming doom, and prepare yourself to do the impossible and pierce the heavens with your drill, because I believe in you who believes in me, and me who believes in myself! ... *ahem* My apologies, that just slipped in there >.< Back on topic, but Amigo didn't do that at all, he just appears in the 11th hour to explain the secret master plan behind everything, in a frankly unsatisfying and disappointing way, There was no build up and it came out of nowhere, which might have worked had the conclusion been a wholly new one, but since it wasn't even that I just had to sigh and shake my head in it's direction.

With the good ending out of the way (I can't say I liked the whole "good" and "gooder" ending system, but that's a whole different rant,) there was the d'aww worthy chats with each of the s-links (which is completely exempt from scorn and was just as moving as 3's :3) and then the awesome "It's not over yet!" moment, with such a great reveal (the gas station clerk! It's right at the point of being "ok, that's just absurd," but not quite there and as such, incredibly epic) Who the hell is Izanami and why does she look so much like Magus from Chrono Trigger? Who cares! At last a satisfying explanation of all the shenanigans! The puppet master had been unveiled and it was time to get some answers! Only, they were the exact same ones as Amigo’s. And P4 just took even more from it's predecessor, the main character fuses an ultimate Persona from the power granted by his s-link bonds, that is finally capable of defeating the unstoppable being, and while it was still a great moment, it was undoubtedly tainted by the fact that it's exactly what Minato did to the t. (Although thankfully with out sacrificing his life T_T)

As promising as she looked, Izanami was just another Nyx wanabee, which doesn't work firstly on the merit of being unoriginal, but doubly so when she's introduced at the last possible hour, with the player expected to form some kind of emotional response far to soon. The more I think about it, the more bummed I get. It really was a blatant redoing of 3, which is really rather tragic, since they were both such different games, and fantastic because of it, but seeing 4 get a cookie cutter mold ending slapped on just made me sad. Theirs a fine line between a recurring theme and unoriginality, and sadly, I felt like the final act of 4 isn't even close to the middle. Which I feel horrible saying, as I still adore the game and think on the whole it's utterly fantastic. The rest of the ending with the remade TV World and the main characters departure were all great, but I can't help but rage over what comes before. As much as I want Persona 5 to be made, I can't help but fear a similar fate will befall it. On the plus side though, if it ever happens It'll give them a chance to redeem themselves, and prove once again that Atlus can do no wrong ^__^

And slightly unrelated note:

^that is awesome :O Enjoy!

The Four Most Tragically Underrated Video Game Soundtracks You Mongoloids Need to Hear
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 32 comments

Samit's words, not mine.

We've reached a point in gaming where one can not only confess to liking video game music, but engage in serious discussion of it. And while it's still a niche passion, relegated to the gaming community, even non-gamers can now recognize classics like the Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy and Pokemon themes. To tie this completly bs intro to my actual article; as much as we can all agree that games like Chrono Tigger, Metal Gear Solid and Mega Man 2 are some of the great pinnacles of gaming's auditory achievement, their are quite a fair few titles with superb soundtracks that don't get the renown they deserve. With any luck, this post should help give you a taste of (and hopefully a love for) at least 5 of those tragically neglected OSTs.

For each game, I provide first a link to the complete soundtrack in the form of a playlist on youtube and some choice samples in the form of both embedded videos and specific hotlinks. I hope you enjoy!

4. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All

While the Ace Attorney series get's it's fair share of respect, for both it's incredible stories and music, Justice for All has always been the black sheep of the family, seen as inferior in both regards. While I'll gladly take on anyone, anywhere, anytime in defense of it's story, the purpose of this post is to defend the latter. The main issue taken the score is that, when compared to the fast paced tunes of AA and TaT, it just plain seems much less exciting. And while it's true, it define not grab you by the balls awesome like first one, it' still an amazing OST, just more subtle. Upon a first hearing, tracks like the examination theme and Shelly de Killer's motif seem to be lacking intensity, but when you start to pay attention, you realize that the excitement is still there, just put into a more concentrated and possibly even more refined form (I could just be talking out my ass though ;) Apart from that bit of pretentiousness, the soundtrack has some great little ditties that deserve far more recognition then they get Eccentric, Miles Edgeworth: Great Revival and Pearl's theme (the last of which still makes me d'aww when I hear it) are all some of the most beloved in the entire AA canon, but the title they originate from still gets left on the backburner. With any luck I should have brought at least one person round to it's side though ;)

3. Yu-Gi-Oh: The Eternal Duelist's Soul

Wait! Don't leave just yet! I know how absurd this sounds, but this game has some seriously great tracks. Still with me? Just take a listen to the two above and below that play when dueling Shadi and Pegasus. Pretty good right? While those are clearly the best, the rest of the OST is undoubtedly good, if not universally amazing (but how may games are so?) Other standouts are Yugi and Kaiba's (Don't run away!) Beauty is often found in the most unlikely of places, and as fucking nerdy as this sounds, Yu-Gi-Oh seems to be one such example.

2. The Embodiment of The Scarlet Devil

It's pretty obvious why this one is terribly under appreciated, most people have no clue it even exists. TEoTSD is a bullet helll shooter (if you've ever played on you should be experience some PTSD right now) and the sixth game of the esteemed Touhou Project. The Thouhou games are notable for, aside from their fantastic gameplay, there beautifully ornate bullet patterns that you have to deftly work your way though, a hugely extensive cast, comprised mostly of supa kawaii loli girls (King3vbo just got interested ;), and some of the best music in all of gaming. Scarlet Devil is no exception, and since it's Windows compatible, it's one of the easiest for Western players to get there hands on. The two embeded are my pbersonal favorites, but there all so amazing, it really comes down to personal preference. From the first boss fight to the top secret last level and everything in between it's all fantastic, and the only thing keeping it from the #1 spot is everyone who knows about it

Also! Since I have a tenacious tendency to tie Earthbound into anything, here's an incredibly epic Giygas inspired remix of the above song. Enjoy!

1. Pokemon Trading Card Game

Like #3, it's easy to see why PkmnTCG doesn't get the glory it deserves. After all, the core Pokemon games' OSTs have a hard enough time gaining acceptance despite their brilliance, so who the hell would give the music of a spinoff about a children's card game the time of day? Those strange souls who did though were astounded to find (no hyperbole) one of the greatest soundtracks in all of gaming. Not only does it have big hitting numbers like the Club Leader and Grand Master duels (see above and below,) every song, even the most insignificant ones like The Autodeck Machine are just as catchy and fantastic as most beloved tunes. There not just universally good, there universally fantastic; from the insparational title theme to to the strangely haunting theme of the Water Club and the polar opposite Lightining Club. Even the creepy pedophile player (don't ask) has a kickass theme song. I can't do this game justice without linking to every single song in the game (even the jingles are amazing!) But if you only walk away and try out one of these games; make it this one. I garuntee, you'll be just as blown away as I was.

That's all four; now go play 'em!

That Update is a Spy! TF2's Spy update revealed
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 35 comments

Well played Valve, well played indeed. Day 4 of the Sniper update took a shocking turn when the update was revealed to none other than a crafty disguise for that of the Spy's. Whether the entire Sniper update was false (the Razorback did seem kind of ridiculous) or both are coming to our PCs remains to be determined. What is known is that the Spy is getting two new unlockables (that seem to replace his cloacking device): "The Dead Ringer" which lets a spy feign his own death (fake corpse and all) allowing him to sneak behind the now lax enemy for a quick stab, and the "Cloak and Dagger" which lets the Spy stay invisible indefinitely, provided he doesn't move. Despite its not being recovered by ammo boxes, the CaD still seems a little on the broken side, but I'm far to pleased by this surprise update to complain. Well done good sirs!

Pyro's gender finally confirmed? (Valve did just edit it shortly after to remain androgynous, so take it as you will)

Speculationtoid: Pokémon Gold/Silver Remake to be announced!?!
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 26 comments

Ask any Pokémon fan his favorite game in the series, and almost all will answer with either Gold, Silver or Crystal. The second generation was the series' peak, in terms of creature design, story and the ever important balance between gameplay complexity and ease of use. Everyone loves 'em, and from this love, stems the desire to see them get an awesome FireRed/LeafGreen-esque remake, and that desires (spurred by coy hints dropped in Diamond and Pearl) came countless rumors about just that. This time though, shit may just be serious. Serebii.net reports that a new Pokémon games are going to be announced on next week's episode of the Pokémon Variety Show (only in Japan XD) and the top minds in the community are speculating it to be a G/S remake, due to Nintendo's plans to start releasing merchandise based around the three Johto starters. While it's not a confirmation, it's a pretty big hint, and I don't think anyone ever questioned that the remake will eventually happen, but rather when (which raises the interesting question of whether we'll ever see remakes of Ruby and Sapphire)

Fingers crossed till next week!

Mother 3 Handbook Get!
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 21 comments

Today is a good day indeed. My long awaited copy of the Mother 3 handbook as finally arrived, and to cut right to the chase, it's probably the best piece of gaming merchandise ever created. Let's see why. (apologies in advance for shitty pictures that do not do this masterpiece justice)

Thank me for buying

Epic slip cover

even more epic slip cover back

Inverse side of the slip cover

[i]The Handbook's true form reveled[i]

My (former) namesake

DCMC <3

Not only is the handbook gorgeously illustrated with it's fantastic drawings and clay models, it's also a surprisingly thorough guidebook, and in keeping with the game it's dedicated too, quite witty as well (there coverage of "The Tower of Peace and Love" in particular made me chuckle to myself). While a free online version will be up on there website soon, I can't recommend enough that you buy yourself a copy if you haven't already. It's as packed with personality as Mother 3 itself, and having the beautifully glossy pages (complete with the oh-so-perfect fresh ink smell) right there in front of you just makes it even better.

Enjoy!

Analyzing the Music of Mother 3
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 11 comments

Preface: I wrote the first draft of this (and it's squeal post) post back in the spring of last year, when I first joined Dtoid. But since the number of people who had played Mother 3 then was about 10, the post was trite and irrelevant. But now that the iron curtain has been lifted with the Fan Translation Patch, and Americans can at long last enjoy Mother 3, I decided it was high time to rewrite this (and it's followup) article, and hopefully finish the series. I hope you enjoy!

Let's talk about Mother 3's music. The full soundtrack for Mother 3 is comprised of 250 songs. I'm going to start with just the first 50 as all of them would make for a ridiculously long post. Don't feel obliged to read it all at once! You can peruse it at your leisure reading/listening to one song at a time. To listen to the songs, all you need to do is NOT download a ROM of Mother 3 and a emulator and your done. Mother 3 has a soundplayer that has all 250 songs already on it, with out you needing to unlock anything. You can also try to download a mp3 version of the soundtrack, or just visit Starmen.net's soundtrack page With any luck, dedicated fans and strangers to the series should get something out of this, although be warned that while I've omitted the big stuff, there are still mild spoilers through out.

Let's Begin:

001 -Let's Begin!- The track that plays on the game’s title screen. The song is filled with uncertainty and limitless potential. The title screen is very ambiguous, with a strange logo and a blank black background, and this track helps to enhance the mysterious atmosphere. It’s a wonderful song, and it’s a shame that most people only take the time to listen to a few seconds of it.
****

002- Fun Naming- This plays during the naming screen. Beautiful and full of simple soothing cheer. It's a happy peaceful song for a happy peaceful family. At the same time though, there's incredible sadness in it when listened to after knowing the sad fate soon to befall. This duality of blissful joy and utter somber makes it one of the best in the game. *****

003-Voice 1011- Its a voice sample of Shigesato Itoi, the director of the entire Mother series
saying Odesuka?, the Japanese equivalent of OK. It was also used in the Earthbound naming screen. Apparently Itoi did not know of its use in EB until he played the final build as a developer snuck it in there as a joke. Because this is not actually a song, I don’t think it’s fair to give it a rating, but it's a cute touch in both games.N/A

004-Welcome- Mother 3 hits you hard and fast with its music. The first two songs were incredible and number three is no exception. This plays during the intro to the game as the world of Mother 3 is shown to you. It fools you into thinking that it will be a slow ballad with its intro, and then switches to a fast paced rock tune. The song is designed to pump you up, and get you excited and anxious to play, which it does very successfully. The hints of sadness present in 002 are gone, and even the slower outro is still designed to excite and energize. A great track. ****

005-Alec's Log House- A mellow but pleasant piece, which helps to reinforce the happy atmosphere at the point in the game in which it plays. Although it works well as a BGM listing to it on its own doesn’t really evoke any strong feelings, like some of the other tracks do. It’s still a good song though, and most definetly deserves recognition. ***

006-Mama's Old House- A beautiful remix of Mother 3’s main theme. While the original version (045) is tragic and methodical, this is happy faced paced and creates feelings of ecstasy instead of ones of
sorrow. Its invigorating rock nature is probably why it was chosen to be a BGM in SSBB, where it excites brawlers as they duke it out on New Pork City. *****

007-Save- The song that plays while your game saves. You will probably only hear a bit of it when you play the game, but it’s no great loss. Works well in the game, but not out of it. **

008-I'm Okera- This really can’t be counted as a song as it is really just a jingle that lasts 3 seconds. It is a good jingle in its defense though and fits the mole crickets well. N/A

009-Ram Into An Enemy!- The jingle that plays when you run into an enemy. It’s a remasterd version of the jingle in Earthbound, which makes it awesome. N/A

010-Annoying Guys- In Mother 3, there is a musical combo system in which you can score more hits (up to 16) on an enemy by tapping the button to the beat of the song. I have utterly no sense of rhythm or beat though, so I was never able to pull off more then four additional hits by luck, but, I hear that it is one of the best parts of the game and that most people who play Mother 3 are quite good it. This song is designed to be easy, (not for me) to pull of a musical combo on as this is the players first fight, and they're still learning the system. Despite the simple beat structure behind it though, it is a good battle song that inspires you to fight and to keep tapping the button in hopes of scoring a combo. No real emotional depth to it, but it's a fun song that stands up outside of the game and in. ***

011-Won The Battle- The remastered victory song from EB. Still just as good as it always was. It brings back great memories and creates wonderful new ones. As nerdy as this is, I'd occasionally just stop and listen to the song after I win a particularly difficult fight. It's the perfect musical embodiment of your feelings of success and triumph. ****

012-Please Stand Up- The death screen song. Somber music to convey you're failure, but at the same time, encouraging you, so that you'll try again. The sensations of longing that the music conveys, really inspire you to get back up and continue the fight. ****

013-As You Like- The song that plays in you're inventory.Soothing like the musak in a hotel atrium. I like the little electronic sounds in the background that scale up and down. A good non-obtrusive yet still pleasurable track but nothing extraordinary. ***

014-Letter to You- A beautiful piece that plays near the end of the introductory chapter. Relaxing with mixed feelings of happiness and nostalgia. A certain degree of longing on the part of the letters author is conveyed, but also her parallel happiness and quiet. although incomplete, bliss.****

015-Carrier Pigeon- The song starts with a surreal remix of track 014 and turns into ambiguous creepy background noise as shit starts to get whack in the peaceful world of Mother 3. Still sends shivers down my spine to this day. ***

016-Mysterious Flying Object- Mother 3 is a lot like the musical Les Mes in the sense that there are several songs that represent certain themes, characters or groups of characters. One such theme is The Theme of Love (Track 045.) One track (Track 187) is remixed quite often in the game and serves as the theme of the main antagonists, the Pig Mask Army. 187 is one the greatest song in Mother 3 and Track 016 is a few bars of it that play in passing at this point in the game. The full song is central to Mother 3 and this introduction of it is crucial to the plot of the game. As amazing as Track 187 is, Track 016 is a 20 second sound bite from it and doesn’t deserve the recognition of its longer brethren. N/A

017-LOG-O-TYPE- The track that plays as the logo of Mother 3 appears and the intro comes to a conclusion. A powerful, intense song, the like of which has not yet been heard in this lighter paced intro. Derived from a portion of Track 187, it's a fanfare like piece perfect for the beginning of this incredible journey. ****

018-It's a f-f-fire!- Another remix of 187, this time turning into a fast paced guitar piece. Fits perfectly with the scene in which it is played and works great as a stand alone piece. The strong chords amplify the intensity of the Pig Mask's blaze. One of my favorite versions of 187. *****

019-Chapter 1- Night of the Funeral- The introductory track for Chapter 1. Filled with intrigue and mystery it fits perfectly with the strange subtitle of chapter one. A nice but short track. N/A

020-Sound of Siren- It starts with an intense, anxious intro then mozies into a slower more mysterious yet still anxious segment. The early frantic pace compliments Thomas mad dash to warn the village of the blazing inferno wrecking havoc on there forest, and the slower scales help to build up a subtler anxiety. A solid track. ***

021-Together- The jingle that plays when a temporary character joins your party. Not as nice as the jingle that plays when a real character joins you (fitting, since a temporary character just isn't as good), but still a great relic from Earthbound. N/A

022-To Teri Forest- Even the average music of Mother 3 is incredible. Although this overworld song starts out slow, it really picks up the pace at about 1:05. I love the mystery and intrigue of this song, which fits as you are just now exploring a new and hostile part of the Mother 3 world. ***

023-Forest Shrine-A quick song that shows up a surprising amount of times. I love the sounds of pipe organs and this simple catchy and haunting ballad serves it’s purpose well. ***

024-Forest in Fire- Another remix of 187. Not quite as goof as 018 but still a solid version. As the action gets more heated(ha ha ha) the music get’s more intense. It really shows how every song in Mother 3 is worked on with care and dedication, and how often certain ditties are remixed and integrated. ***

025-Overcome by the Enemy!- A remasterd version of surprise attack jingle from EB. This one brings back more painful memories then then 009 ;). N/A

026-Bat-san Twist-This song plays when you fight a bat enemy. I love the little throwback to a certain superhero. A great humorous battle song that is supposedly easy to combo on, not for me of course ;) ****

027Good Hot Water- A remastered version of the hot spring theme from EB. Soothing and relaxing, just like the warm water of a sauna. Let this song mellow you out as you're HP is slowly regained. ***

028-Pig Mask Comes!- A brief segment of 187. More a jingle then an actual song. N/A

029-Troublesome Guys- Another battle theme that is reportedly easy to combo on, although apparently harder then the last two. I love the jazz influence in the track, reminiscent of Runway 5. The trumpet combined with the drumbeat really create a mysterious feeling that fits with the strange Chimera's you fight too it. ***

030-Nuisance Guys- An OK battle theme but nothing spectacular. A good beat but no real emotional connotation. It works pretty well in the game though, and keeps you pumped up. **

031-What?-A slightly weird jingle, used for slightly weird instances.. N/A

032-Back Beat Battles-The battle themes get more epic and intense as the game goes on, and this song starts the trend. Not quite as dramatic as some later themes, but still a pretty good song, with a subdued intensity behind it's staggered melody. ***

033-Gentle Rain- A sad piece that is used frequently in the game to create feelings of longing. It works
quite well as both a mood piece in the game and as a song to listen to outside of the game. Somber, but not quite to the tear jerking level of some of the later songs, making for a more calm form of tragedy. ****

034-Homely YADO- A nice track. It plays in the yados (Japanese word for hotel) that you visit. There honestly isn’t much to say about it though. It’s passive, and a far cry to the exciting hotel music to come. While it's the song of fast paced capitalism, this is the passive tune of the cost free utopia that will so quickly be destroyed. The symbolical difference behind the two though is pretty brilliant. ***

035-Letter From You- A gentle and touching remix of Track 014. Beautiful yet incredibly sad, While Hinawa's happiness in writing the letter is conveyed, so is Flint's tender distress wrought from being unable to find his beloved. . ****

036-Hard Rain- A song of determination and strength. If you listen closely, you can hear part of track 24 in the background at times as Flint sets out on the forest trail once again. Hard and steadfast, like the man it plays for. ***

037-Let's Go Together!- A beautiful remastered version of the new party member jingle from EB. Brings back memories of how ecstatic I was when I got my first new party member in EB. N/A

038-Run, My Dog!- Another song of dedication and strength. It contains the theme song(046) of a certain favorite character of mine, whom were about to meet. Boney's loyalty and gusto are perfectly demonstrated by the bravado of the music, as he dashes off to complete a task for his beloved owner. ****

039-Surely Somewhere- An odd track composed of a simple melody with strange noises serving as the beat. The game is becoming stranger at this point, so it makes sense for this song to be played then. Another anxiety inducing piece. ***

040-Got in my hand a...- A remastered version of the got a new item theme from EB. Never really liked it in either version, but it's an item jingle, so whats to complain about it? N/A

041-Timidly- A remastered version of the memorable cave theme from EB. It works just as well as in
EB. The weird siren like sounds accompanied by a strange haunting, humming noise in the background create an atmosphere of intrigue and subdued fear. ****

042-Mischievous Blues- Another good battle theme. Far more goofy then some of the later ones, and fits with the slightly silly enemies fought to it. But while it's present and light heated, the battle themes get more intense soon. ***

043-Tragic Reconstruction- Very soon indeed! This is an intense piece that is used in an intense fight against a difficult (and tragic) foe. The loud drum beat really helps to create the feeling of panic and pressure, especially when your life odometer is trickling down as the Moose readies another assault, and the guilt over killing a something innocent, being forced to fight you. The Pig Masks are dicks. ****

044-Confusion- The song starts with stuttered intro of chords and then progress into a slow and somber ballad. The deep resonance of the chords mixes with the high pitched melody to create a beautiful, haunting effect as a terrible truth is reveled, and equally terrible anger over it is so violently displayed. ****

045-Mother 3 Love Theme- The theme song of Mother 3. It is very similar to EB0’s (Maria's Theme) and EB’s (Eight Melodies) theme songs in the sense that it is a simple yet incredibly powerful and deep ballad that has great importance thought the game. This version of the song is far sadder then the upbeat cheeriness of 006. Even with out knowing anything about the game, you can still hear the meaning and themes that the song conveys. The sadness and mourning, but also the love that creates these sad feelings. The title; The Theme of Love, fits the song perfectly. *****

046-Sorrowful Tazmily- This track starts out a simple flute melody with a small piano playing a tune in the background, but soon other instruments begin to accompany the two, and the song turns into a sad, subdued version of a beautiful theme song to come. ***

047-Sad Room-A sad but unmemorable track. It’s really more of an atmospheric piece, then something
for you to listen to alone. Like all of Mother 3 though, it's high quality atmosphere. **

048-In the Room. This is the song that plays whenever you are in someone’s house. I love the use of the synthesizer to make this track, a somewhat superficial but enjoyable song.***

049-Going Alone- Another epic overwold theme, that is handled just as much care as another track, now that daylight has set in, the music can be less anxiety inducing and suspenseful, and more relaxing. The child like simplicity of the track helps to create an atmosphere that encourages exploration and simple fun, despite the tragedy behind it. ****

050-Fun Bazzar- Another happier track, that plays when you are in a store. It reminds me a bit of the music they play at carnivals (or what I imagine they play at carnivals, I’ve never actually been to one.) I think a synth is used in this track as well. Like 048, this track, while, enjoyable lacks any true emotional depth. ***

Hope you enjoyed: see you next time!

Scary Womanizing Artist: The Remastered Collection
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 15 comments

Although a collection of my drawings is equivalent to a Rick Astley: Greatest Hits album in worth, my acquisition of a scanner has upped the quality of the index card and red pen doodles I've posted over the last year, which were formally only captured in cruddy cell phone photography, thus marking the perhaps not-so monuments opening of the Scary Womanizing Pig Mask Remastered Gallery. Enjoy!

My first work, depicting a naive Mr. Saturn fishing for birds with his balloon. Serene and peaceful...

Until the Ultimate Chimera eats him. Boing!

The Devils Machine, housing the ultimate mindless embodiment of evil: Giygas, with the Apple of Enlightenment showcasing Ness' face featured in the center. Fun fact, this is actually interactive art, and if you flip back the flap...

You release the monstrosity from his confinement, unleashing incomprehensible destruction, until you casually flip the flap back down.

Apologies for the emoness of this one. It's the Masked Man from Mother 3, staring at a solitary sunflower. Won't spoil why such a sight would affect him so, in case you haven't beaten the game.

Heh, another slightly emo one. It's Godot's (of Ace Attroney fame) mask, dripping blood, or rather tears. If you've beaten the game you'll no where I'm going with this one (or at least I hope ;)

Fanart for the Podcastle :) Jim's got on a Koei shirt with a Dynasty Warrior sword, Athiestium has Tomb Raider inspired dual pistols and assorted weaponry, and Wardrox has his beloved PS3.

A slightly random mix of Phoenix Wright charecters: We have Phoenix Wright chatting it up with Daryan Crescend, while Godot looms smirking in the background.

Podtoid fanart this time around. We have Aaron holding hands with his monkey, and with a Starmen shirt on, Jim with a severed giraffe head and suit, Rev with Batman pajamas, and Tiff with a hodgepodge outfit with Billy Mitchels tie, and an Ask Me About Loom pin among other things. And watching them all is... A surveillance camera?! Looking back though, the piece is kind of trite, now that the cast has shuffled around, and some of the jokes have faded out (although I'm sure Aaron's happy no one talks about him jizzing with monkeys in a movie theater anymore ;)

As requested by the bearded samurai himself, Y0j1mb0. It's him decapitating a failed challenger of his Street Fighter mastery. The letters on the side are the Yojimbo characters name in Japanese.

As requested by Ashley Davis; it's a palozza of Mr. Satruns dressed as anything from Mr. Destructoid, to TF2's spy and even the Podcastle cast. The Chad Concelmo dolphin one is still my favorite of the bunch :)

A drawn screenshot, of what would be the greatest game of all time Chad Concelmo and The Lost Pit of E.T.. (The plot of which would concern the titular hero hunting down the massive pit of E.T. cartridges Atari buried.) In the screenshot Chad's fighitng a tribe of Atari executives, while simultaneously punching an old lady.

What I imagine the cover for said game would look like, featuring Chad escaping on a dolphin from the then cast of Podtoid, dressed as Indiana Jones baddies; Rev as the Nazi colonel, Jim as the sadist top hat man, Aaron as the eypatched monkey man, and Tiff as the fancy swordsman who Indy shoots down.

Secret never before posted drawing :O It's a slightly random portrayal of the RFGO! cast taking down Porky Minch (as played by Rev Ant) With Dyson as Jeff, Colette as Paula, Chad as Ness, Topher as Poo, and Stella as a Mr. Saturn.

Hope you enjoyed!

Umm, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen! Phoenix Wright the Musical Recorded!!
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 15 comments

Thanks to Aerox for showing me this!

Alright, in the past I've made some pretty bold statements regarding Gyakuten Saiban: Resurrected Truth, the all female Phoenix Wright Muiscal, even stating that it would be better than even Legally Blonde The Musical (seriously, it's amazing.) I'm not gonna beat around the bush, it doesn't disappoint, it's the greatest thing I've ever seen.

Let's give a play by play of how awesome this is:

-Epic tri objection! (igyagi!)
-Badass Phoenix solo, with giant him behind him
-Ensemble Chigago-esque reporter dance
-Maya and Gumeshoe!!
-Edgeworth with matching Edgeworht back up dancers!
-Holy shit, they actually use the ingame court overture
-Epic Gumeshoe cross examination
-That gets shut down by Edgeworth
-Lotta Hart is the greatest person ever
-What are you doing there American flag?
-More Maya!
-Edgeworth/Phoenix showdown
-It's the Butz! (with epic hair)
-Phoenix in his collegiate pink sweater
-Ema Skye too?!
-Igyagi!
-Edgeworth does the tango?!
-Phoenix in his pimp suit
-And in a ball gown and white tails?!
-Epic final all cast number
-Phoenix takes center stage
-Get out of here random black suit guy!
-Boring bows

11/10 Screw Flower, THIS is visual perfection!

Cryptic Atlus is Cryptic: New mystery project announced for the 23rd
Scary Womanizing Pig Mask 15 comments

Oh Atlus, many companies will just issues a boring press release, or a stupidly mysterious flash image with a countdown, but Atlus makes sure to reveal there big guns with style. There latest reveal talks about making sure news of there plans for February 23rd aren't discussed with there super computer, so as to make sure they don't get leaked causing massive speculation. Cute, considering there recent computer troubles, and the HAL-esque story they jokingly ascribed to it.

As to the speculation of what it could be, if it's big enough to warrant a clever little hype build up like this, it's probably in the SMT mainsersis. Far that then that though, and I'm stumped, as Persona is my only real experience with the games (although I'm looking to correct that ;) Perhaps some more well versed Atlus fans have some theories?

Also, it's been stated before, but seriously, how many amazing games can Atlus come out with in one year? Devil Summoner 2, Devil Survivor, Steel Princess, Dokapon Kingdom, The Dark Spire, Tokyo Beat Down and now this? I'm legitimately in awe. Treasure has come competition now!
