SSBB Stage Creator Limited, Imagination Isn't, Smashes head into sidewalk.
savagesaladin | 1:54 PM on 03.14.2008 9 comments

Unless there is extra shit you can unlock for the stage creator, I find it extremely limited. There are probably less than 40 items you can use to build the stage. And its all very basic, too. Plus you can't use the wii pointer to grab and move stuff, which I thought would've been useful. You can't shrink or enlarge stuff. Plus only 4 backgrounds. I'm happy about the music selection, though.

It was nice of them to provide me with a piece of paper, but they could've have included a pencil to draw with. Its not like I'm going to draw a bunch of expanding dicks. They give me a clean slate and say "alright, heres a latter, some moving platforms, some spikes that only point up, a solid floor, floors you can jump and fall through, a tree and a stack of rocks. Don't put anything close together, and don't do anything creative. Thats our job." When I first heard of the stage creator my mind started going wild.

But, I may be wrong, because there is so much shit in that game you can unlock that there may be way more to it. I really hope so, anyway.

I wish map makers were more deep. Halo's isn't bad at all, but I wish I could alter the terrain. Farcry for the Xbox had my favorite map maker. You can start from scratch and rig shit, do almost anything you want. Make multiple islands, super tall mounts, death-pits, camps, stuff like that. Your imagination was allowed to go wild. Too bad I didn't have anybody to play with.

A more in-depth map maker would have made SSBB perfect. I'm not going to bitch about online play. I don't have the energy.

What do you guys think? Were you severely disappointed in the stage creator? Do you think I am stating a valid point or just nitpicking? They could've not even included the stage creator, then I would have pretty much nothing to bitch about.

Oh, here is my nitpick (coming from an MGS fan), they should have made Grey Fox a playable character instead of an assist trophy.

But can you make a penis stage?
DynamicSheep's Destructoid Blog
I think your point is valid, but slightly uninformed... there are three sets of parts that you unlock by making 15 stages, and playing ten games on created stages. Even with those extra parts, you're still severly limited in what you can do.

@ArrestedDeveloper

NO! I tried but Nintendo hates dicks. The first thing I thought about when I tried out the stage creator was "yeah, I'm totally gonna make a ship out of dicks."

Nope, no dicks.

You can shrink and enlarge every part they give you too.

I had a feeling there was unlockable stage parts.

No shit? Their stage creator seems so simple I don't know how I missed that.

There is extra shit you can unlock for the stage creator. The real limitation is not being able upload images for back drops or use screen shots or anything. there are just waaaaay too few backdrops. On the other hand being able to use any of the music is just awesome... As for the actual stage building materials, there's a surprisingly large amount of shit you can do with it. I only wish you could play em online. Actually, I really can't imagine why not, it would take only a few bytes of data probably sent to the other players' wii for their stage creator to build any stage...

There's no button that shrinks and enlarges on the controller, you have to manually move over to the little on-screen button that has arrows pointing towards the corners to expand the piece sizes. If you're holding a piece it only changes the size of that piece, if you're not holding anything it makes all the pieces in the sidebar larger.

The only thing I was dissappointed by is how much "extra" room some of the items take up. I had an idea for a stage that centered around a big tree in the middle, but I cannot do this because there's that line of fluff spaces on top of the tree piece. :/

While I didn't know you could change the size of the pieces either, it still doesn't change the fact the level editor is severely limited. I have 2 of the 3 unlockable sets and I didn't even notice what new pieces I unlocked when I did so.

I also think the "extra" space for some of the items is bullshit. Plus, why am I not able to flip pieces vertically if there is an arrow button showing me I can? The horizontal arrows flip shit, why not the vertical ones?

Is anyone really surprised Nintendo fucked up, though? I mean, come on... the online is rancid, why not the level editor, too?

 about me

My gamertag is White Biff. Why "White Biff?" Because my friends name on XBL is Black Bill, so we kind of have a white cop, black cop kind of thing going on. In a non-gay way. Totally straight...

I own the essentials-- Wii, 360, PS3 DS Lite, PSP, Nintendo 64...

I'm in a non-registered CoD4 clan [XBL] called JCVD (Jean-Claude Van Damme). If you haven't watched the movie JCVD, do so. Its incredible.

Right now I'm working towards getting to 10th prestige in CoD4 before Modern Warfare 2 comes out. I've been playing CoD4 since it came out. I absolutely cant wait for MW2. Its killing me.

I've been off of Destructoid for a while because Dtoid reset my password because they were hacked and I couldn't access my email. So... Im back.

Destructoid is probably my favorite gaming site. I visit Kotaku from time to time, but they are total fucking arrogant dicks over there. I'd like to take that "banhammer" of theirs and shove it up Crecente's gaping asshole. I hate the comments the most. Everybody is so afraid of getting banned so they have to agree with whatever the author says. Fuck that. Thats why I love Dtoid so much. None of that crap. Call out an author on their bullshit here and you wont get a reply with "BANHAMMERED!!" Fuck Crenente.
