I've only prestiged once in CoD4. Thats because I got bored really fast when I first reached 55. I prestiged and a week later I'm back at 55.
At around level 40 I came across a mystical golden Ak47. I never seen one before. I thought it would look stupid but it looked marvelous. I thought to myself "I've gotta have one". I've been at level 55 for a while. I would get one paint job at a time for each rifle. I made sure not to get bored of any weapon. As a side project I worked on getting the golden shotgun. I easily got that. It required way less headshots. I rarely come across golden weapons in the game, unless I dropped the golden shotgun myself. I guess its up to the player if he wants to prestige over and over again or earn the golden weapons. I can tell you now, just leveling up is wayyy easier than getting 150 headshots with each weapon just to get that bling bling. I'm getting really close to getting the golden AK47. About 3 more weapons to go. Hmmm, then what? Golden UZI. Or if you're really hardcore you could go to max prestige and then get the golden weapons. Meh, who cares. Its just a little symbol next to your name.

There is no Golden p90. Although I do agree that it becomes a chore. Sometimes I will just make a fun class and just go to town on some mother fuckers. No headshots needed. Maybe an M4 with a grenade launcher using Sonic Boom. Lots of fun. Then I remember why the game is awesome.
You SHOULD be able to. I don't know why they would exclude it from the PC.
In my opinion, don't think your good just because you have a cool little icon next to your name, and bragging about a golden gun is equally gay. The only way you can tell if someone is good is by playing them

I have the gold shotgun and am working on the AK. Lemme tell ya, people are way more impressed online from a golden gun than a high prestige, whatever that really means to anyone.
I just did it 'cause I thought prestige was dumb from the beginning and never planned on doing it. Plus, I enjoy limiting myself to certain weapons and forcing myself to truly learn the ins and outs of each class of weapons. After Assault rifles is LMGs for me (fewer headshots than SMGs). As an added bonus, forcing myself to go through the semi-auto assaults has drastically improved my accuracy by forcing me to hit people the first time I aim, and not just randomly spray metal their way.
Either way, I agree, gold guns are where it's at. All I hear people talk about when they talk about prestige is that they hate losing their weapons. I'm keepin' my golden guns, that's for sure.
So yeah, if you want to start over you're stuck making a new profile.
I don't even use the gun, unless me and my friends are playing "golden guns only", because we also like to limit ourselves to certain guns, like using anything but the m16 red dot because it takes away from the fun of the game due to the fact it's incredibly easy to use.

Yeah I noticed that I've become really good with the weapons that I'm level III expert in. I usually come across those weapons when I run out of ammo. I just pick it up and kill 10 people easily. I recently got red tiger on the M16 and it was stupid easy. I got it in one day. Definitely the most overpowered weapon for its range and accuracy. Probably the best weapon in the game because of how easy it is to fire. Although I don't like it. I'm trying to become proficient in all the weapons.
