About Me
been into gaming since the atari 2600 days, when as a young child i was smitten with the gaming addiction.
my favorite genres are mainly FPS & 3rdPS. i find myself usually drawn to games that are not AAA titles. although i'm not into multiplayer gaming (death match, capture the flag, etc..) i absolutely love co-op!
some of my favorite games from this & last gen are: the FEAR series, kane & lynch:dead men, prototype, rainbow 6 vegas 2, XIII, gun, manhunt 2, killer 7, shadow of the colossus, stubbs the zombie & black.
i'm currently on a slight action rpg kick, playing Okami (the game never ends)& Borderlands (a game i never want to end). also just recently picked up Deadly Premonition on 360 & POP-warrior within on ps2.

I'm a Completest

i can't lie about it. for better or worse, if the game i'm playing grabs me, it grabs me & i'll play it till the end. the OCD part of the whole thing is that i will not play anyting else until the current game i'm playing is completely finished. here comes my complaint:

some games are just WAAAAAAAAY too long. Okami is brilliant in every way, but seriously- 30+ hours???? come on! at 12+ hours designers have given us our money's worth- but once you go past 24 hours- you've hit the OVERKILL point. if your game is that 'epic' in scope, you have totally killed any replay value for me. there is no way i'm going to ever revisit the world of Okami once this never ending quest is finally finished. unlike shadow of the colossus (which took way less time to complete), Okami just stretches for the sake of it. As far as i'm concerned the game could have already ended 10 hours ago- but no. after you kill the main baddy, there is still more epic questing to be done. ....boring.

nonetheless, i really do love Okami. it is nothing short of brilliant in every way....

I must disagree on your definition of completest. I would urge you to read the fourth paragraph down.

I too hate it when an amazing game offers me even more amazing things to do after I beat the final boss. It really pisses me off that the developers would dare to try to offer up such a robust and rich experience in a vibrant, original world. It just seems rude to me to do such a thing.

Also, it's completist.

OK, let's try this again with a little more coffee and a little less sarcasm:

I found the game to be amazing and all 28 hours I put into were well spent to me. I don't think the game stretched on for the sake of it. No big deal though, at least you played Okami. I'm still trying to convince some of my friends to play the game, the dumb bastards.

I put 60 hours into Okami and it completely rubbed me the wrong way in terms of storytelling and inane repetitive gameplay.

That's right...60 hours.

Long story short

stevil- thanks for that amazing blog post!!! i have to agree that 'story' tends to take a back seat in many videogames. here are a few not-so-recent games that i thoughthad a good story:

Breakdown
XIII
killer 7
manhunt 2
kane & lynch
