First off, I really apologize for not posting a new blog for quite a while but I've been extra busy with work and doing some web design for extra cash. I've also been working on a special art project here again as of late, so I'm hoping to have something to show of that before too long.
Alright, so I went to Planet Comicon in Overland Park, KS yesterday (April 5th). It was awesome and I spent a heck of a lot more money than I should have. This post will be about the comics and games I bought. If you're curious about the toys I bought check out my
Tomopop article.
I surprisingly didn't pick up hardly any comics this year probably because I overburdened myself with toys, lol. The few I did pick up were two Neon Genesis Evangelion comic books from the manga series. I also bought five Slayers comic books from the manga series. One of the Slayers comics was #1 from the Super-Explosive Demon Story series and the other four were part of Slayers Special. Slayers is one of my favorite anime series though so this was awesome for me.
One of the things I was really looking forward to was that Twin Galaxies referee, Walter Day, was there. I've watched The King of Kong : Fist Full of Quarters so many times it's ridiculous. I actually have it on as I write this. It's one of my favorite documentaries of all time and it never gets old to me. So, I was excited to meet this amazing video game referee.
I had brought my copy of King of Kong with me to have signed but ended up with so much more. I was the only person who was actually there to see him since I knew he was coming, so I kept an eye out on the booth. Shawn Paul Jones, the publisher of Video Game Collector Magazine, was there maintaining the booth where they were selling toys and some video games. I chatted with him for a bit while waiting for Walter to get there, so he knew I was a fan of the movie and such. They were so unbelievably nice and I appreciate everything they gave me so much.
When Walter got there he had brought his book Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records which I had really wanted to pick up but by this time I'd spent all but $20 on toys, so unfortunately I had to pass since it was $35, but I promised I would pick it up soon.
Walter and I chatted about the movie for a bit, and he ended up giving me one of the limited edition Twin Galaxies posters they had for Planet Comicon. I got #11 out of 20, and it was poster design #111. Both Walter Day and Shawn Paul Jones signed it for me. I also got the newest issue (#9) of Video Game Collector Magazine that Walter had written an article in. He gave me a King of Kong movie poster that he signed for me as well.
Though one of the most amazing items I got from the con was a bottle of Billy Mitchell's hot sauce. Walter had brought some with that had special Planet Comicon labels on it. I got bottle #4 out of 40 so this gem will totally be sitting on my shelf for years to come. After all that was squared away I got a picture with him and went on my merry way.
I also picked up a really nice art piece by Bryan Ward of Heath Ledger as the Joker. It was an original piece and damn is it beautiful. This will be a great addition to my wall so I'll be getting this framed and up in no time as well as my posters. I got a picture with him and his artwork.
There were some amazing cosplayers at the convention as well. There were many Star Wars costumers as well as a freaking awesome Iron Man. I got my picture taken with a great Darth Maul cosplayer, which I was totally siked about. The Iron Man totally made me spaz as well.
Ok, now onto the part all of you actually care about. After the convention we went to three different retro game stores. I officially went nuts and spent way too much. I was just glad I had saved some money since this opportunity arose. I ended up getting 25 games total thanks to a buy 2 get one free sale because of the convention. I've been working hard to get a bigger stash of NES games, so far I think I've succeeded.
For NES games I got:
StarTropics, Monster Party, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Crystalis, King's Knight, Dragon Power, Bionic Commando, Clash at Demonhead, Bucky O'Hare, Deja Vu, 3D World Runner, Ninja Gaiden and Ghost Lion.
For SNES games I got:
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Secret of Evermore, Wanderers of Ys III, Gradius III, Populous and Super Street Fighter 2 in box with instructions.
For N64 games I got:
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie
For Dreamcast games I got:
Evolution and Shenmue, both full box with instructions.
So I think I got a pretty rockin' haul. Usually I never get to nab a stash like that but I happened to have saved a bit for this occasion. I'm totally excited to get all of these tested out and play them.
Well I think that's all I have for today. Pictures from the convention are attached to my Tomopop blog, frankly because I didn't feel like uploading the pictures AGAIN for another 2 hours... Again, if you want to see the toys I bought visit my
Tomopop post as well.

I apologize, that was terrible. Nice haul of games. I've never bought 25 all at once, but I've had some insane multi day spending sprees (eBay is too addictive.)
