Ok so, I've always wanted to play the Metal Gear Solid series, and I <3 Chad an amazing amount.. So.. I had a conundrum. But then I decided that Chad will hopefully forgive me for telling him to STFU multiple times because my voice acting is so hilariously bad.
So enjoy my lulz for yourself!
Thanks guys for holding such a fun contest!
If it makes Anthony laugh, then my goal is complete. :D
*Edit: My goal IS complete!*
The amazing world of Youtube brings us new video from the upcoming Lego Batman game. Two new characters are introduced, Scarecrow and Two-Face. This video just makes me even more freaking excited for this game than I already have been.
Here's a little insight into these two new characters:
Two-Face Real Name: Harvey Dent
Hideously scarred by acid thrown in his face by a criminal he was prosecuting, Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent became Two-Face, a sociopath whose every action is dictated by his obsession with the number two and a two-headed silver dollar, scarred on one side to represent his own evil and disfigurement. Despite their repeated clashes, Batman has never ceased in his efforts to rehabilitate his former friend.
Scarecrow Real Name: Prof. Jonathan Crane
An insane scientist and psychiatrist, specializes in the nature of fear. Dressed symbolically as a scarecrow, he employs special weapons, equipment and techniques designed to use fear to his advantage in his crimes.
Take a look at the two new baddies you'll be playing as.
I officially cannot wait to play as Scarecrow. There's just something about hitting people in the head with a hat that continues to make my day a happy one.
Check out the gallery for some new images of the game thanks to the internets, the wonderful place it is.
Thanks to NihonTiger90 for holding this neat contest I'll actually be going back to doing something severely video game related. =P Thanks for keeping me on track with this one, buddy.
As Nihon states in his feature, "Does It Suck", some games just suck! Although I feel a lot of the games I've played and enjoyed or even really liked are some that people have thoroughly trashed. Some are ones that people didn't give the time of day and just ignored, so we assume it sucked.
After playing some of this game, let's see what my opinion is after looking at the facts.
It's time for...
Basic Info
Octomania Developer - Idea Factory Developer - Compile Heart Publisher - Conspiracy Entertainment Corp. Console - Nintendo Wii Year - 2008
The Premise
Octomania takes you on a journey as Kari, an apprentice magician, who decides to summon up her favorite treat: Takoyaki. Instead of her delicious Takoyaki appearing, a shower of coloured Octopi rain down from the sky. A guardian angel then appears to inform Kari that she must rid Lonropia of the Octopi. You will now seek out on your journey to find Prince Exaultus to see if he can help you.
The Game
As you probably should have figured by now, if this game's on the Wii it's either a casual game or a puzzle game. Well you're right! It's kind of both. By no mean does this mean I don't like it or that I hate the Wii, I own plenty of these types of games! Your goal is to hurry and rid your screen of all the Octopi before your enemy beats you to it. You need to line up your Octopi in groups under the Octo-nets and watch them create chains to pile onto your opponent's screen. If you can pull off a big enough chain you can cripple your opponent with a nasty Sea Urchin attack. Clear the screen as quickly as you can to win the game.
There are several different modes that you can play on. Arcade mode is what I usually play and it's just your standard version where you progress through the story and make your way through the different screens. Multiplayer you can play with another person in your house beside you and try to fill their screen with Octopi. Then there's the Wi-Fi mode. As with all Wii games you'll need to have your opponent's Friend Code and someone who bought the game of course. There are a couple of different battle modes that you can play, though I haven't personally tried them as that would require someone else to have bought this game.
The Controls
You get a couple of different options with your controls for this game. You can either hold the Wiimote in front of you like a pointer or sideways. If you hold it like a pointer your control pad will rotate the Octopi and the A button confirms your selection. Holding it sideways is more like an arcade experience, which is what I liked. Sideways, your control pad selects the items and 1 will confirm your selection, also turn your Octopi left. 2 will rotate the Octopi right. Neither controls are really too bad for this type of game, though I'd probably suggest using the Sideways, more arcade, controls.
The Graphics and Sound
As you can see from the video above, which is the opening video to the game, it is a 2D game. The graphics are pretty good, and the characters are adorable. Plus, that theme song is pretty catchy if I do say so myself. That's the Japanese opening, but the American one is exactly the same, except saying Octomania instead of it being in Japanese characters of course. So, the graphics are a winner for me.
The music in the game is pretty catchy, and like a lot of puzzle games, if you're getting down to the wire and close to losing it loves to give you that stressful music. That being said, the voice acting is pretty not awesome but luckily you get a break in between each puzzle and you don't have to hear a huge overabundance of it like you would in an RPG. That being said though, it's still annoying.
The Conclusion
All in all this game is actually not too bad and provides a fun Octopi ridding experience. I didn't think too much about it when I picked it up for $20, but I've actually enjoyed myself with it.
FINAL VERDICT : Slight Suckage
This game is in no means perfect, so there is a little bit of suckage with the voice acting, but for $20 you should definitely give this game a shot!
Ok, so some of this is pretty old and I just haven't updated random stuff for a while, so bare with me.
First off I have to thank a couple of people who have sent me stuff here recently!
#1: Chad Concelmo :D
After winning his amazing Great Retro Quiz on dolphins, I received this amazing hand painted shot glass straight from Cancun. I totally <3 it and it sits on my computer desk. :) When I went out to check the mail the day I got this it totally made my day, and I even got a <3! So thanks again, Chad. It's AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!
#2: NihonTiger Because Nihon is awesome and realizes that I need things to help me concentrate, he has sent me 6 humongous bags of Doritos to help me with my Tomopop articles! :D I'm glad to say it's helped and that I've been nomming on them quite frequently. He also sent me a Rinoa (From FFVIII) trading figure and a Moogle keychain from Chocobo Tales. Sooooo cute and awesome. They both sit in front of monitor as well. <3 I love them soo much!
#3: Mid3vol Thank you sooo much for ordering me the $1 shirt when I was in a bind. I can't wait to hang out at PAX! <3
I think that's all for now, if I forgot you I really really really apologize. My brain's not quite working correctly right now.
I went to a Bon Jovi concert last night that was absolutely awesome. I got quite a few cool pictures and videos, which I won't bore you with. Ok, well maybe one picture.
As the header image says, I picked up my copy of Persona 3 FES today :D So I can't wait to get to play it.
I think the last thing I have as an update is that I finally finished a picture I was working on for Wardrox (Go read his blog!) =P It took quite a while since I outlined it, but I think it turned out fairly well. Also, I finished the coloured version of the Podcastle artwork if you didn't see the main header for their post.
I also want to thank everyone who ordered my hats that I put up within the last week. You guys rock! There are still a couple Parappa hats available here and the Adventures of Lolo hats are still available as well here.
Thanks again everyone! Hopefully I'll have something interesting to update here soon! <3
-Rio
Wow I had no idea you all would want these so badly! So I went on a hat making spree yesterday and made 5 more. 2 of them have already been claimed, but I have 3 more that are up now on my Etsy store.
Thank you guys as always for being so awesome! I totally appreciate all the love you all give me, and I am glad you enjoy my arts and crafts! <3
So if you're interested in a Parappa hat and you weren't Dexter345 =P Then you can get yours now here!
Thank you all again and enjoy a Podcastle fanart piece! :D
Also, wait for the colour version where Jim is more fat. I <3 you, Jim. XD
Also, <3 Wardrox, you are the king of the Podcastle!
Also again, Atheistium, your boobs match Lara's! :D (She's holding a Lara Croft figure in my picture)
Hello everyone! I've finally had some free time to make a couple of hats. The newest hat is the Parappa the Rapper hat! It's an orange beanie complete with the frog emblem and all. It's based on the hat that Parappa wears in the awesome Playstation game.
This was made with polar fleece as usual. The base was all sewn with a machine and the emblem was hand sewn on. I also hand painted the frog outlines and details on the emblem with fabric paint.
I was such a huge fan of these games, as I still am. I can always just pick this game up and play it any time. Not to say that I'm magically great at them or anything, but they are fun nonetheless.
Well I hope you all enjoy it and it's available for sale on my Etsy store here.
I also have the Lala and Lolo hats from the Adventures of Lolo still available on the main page of the store as well here.
Thanks you guys for being so awesome as always. I love you guys for missing me when I don't post a blog quite as frequently. Special thanks to you, Ceark, for placing me in your list of favorite posts each day on the Recaps when I make a blog. <3
First off, I really apologize for not posting a new blog for quite a while but I've been extra busy with work and doing some web design for extra cash. I've also been working on a special art project here again as of late, so I'm hoping to have something to show of that before too long.
Alright, so I went to Planet Comicon in Overland Park, KS yesterday (April 5th). It was awesome and I spent a heck of a lot more money than I should have. This post will be about the comics and games I bought. If you're curious about the toys I bought check out my Tomopop article.
I surprisingly didn't pick up hardly any comics this year probably because I overburdened myself with toys, lol. The few I did pick up were two Neon Genesis Evangelion comic books from the manga series. I also bought five Slayers comic books from the manga series. One of the Slayers comics was #1 from the Super-Explosive Demon Story series and the other four were part of Slayers Special. Slayers is one of my favorite anime series though so this was awesome for me.
One of the things I was really looking forward to was that Twin Galaxies referee, Walter Day, was there. I've watched The King of Kong : Fist Full of Quarters so many times it's ridiculous. I actually have it on as I write this. It's one of my favorite documentaries of all time and it never gets old to me. So, I was excited to meet this amazing video game referee.
I had brought my copy of King of Kong with me to have signed but ended up with so much more. I was the only person who was actually there to see him since I knew he was coming, so I kept an eye out on the booth. Shawn Paul Jones, the publisher of Video Game Collector Magazine, was there maintaining the booth where they were selling toys and some video games. I chatted with him for a bit while waiting for Walter to get there, so he knew I was a fan of the movie and such. They were so unbelievably nice and I appreciate everything they gave me so much.
When Walter got there he had brought his book Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records which I had really wanted to pick up but by this time I'd spent all but $20 on toys, so unfortunately I had to pass since it was $35, but I promised I would pick it up soon.
Walter and I chatted about the movie for a bit, and he ended up giving me one of the limited edition Twin Galaxies posters they had for Planet Comicon. I got #11 out of 20, and it was poster design #111. Both Walter Day and Shawn Paul Jones signed it for me. I also got the newest issue (#9) of Video Game Collector Magazine that Walter had written an article in. He gave me a King of Kong movie poster that he signed for me as well.
Though one of the most amazing items I got from the con was a bottle of Billy Mitchell's hot sauce. Walter had brought some with that had special Planet Comicon labels on it. I got bottle #4 out of 40 so this gem will totally be sitting on my shelf for years to come. After all that was squared away I got a picture with him and went on my merry way.
I also picked up a really nice art piece by Bryan Ward of Heath Ledger as the Joker. It was an original piece and damn is it beautiful. This will be a great addition to my wall so I'll be getting this framed and up in no time as well as my posters. I got a picture with him and his artwork.
There were some amazing cosplayers at the convention as well. There were many Star Wars costumers as well as a freaking awesome Iron Man. I got my picture taken with a great Darth Maul cosplayer, which I was totally siked about. The Iron Man totally made me spaz as well.
Ok, now onto the part all of you actually care about. After the convention we went to three different retro game stores. I officially went nuts and spent way too much. I was just glad I had saved some money since this opportunity arose. I ended up getting 25 games total thanks to a buy 2 get one free sale because of the convention. I've been working hard to get a bigger stash of NES games, so far I think I've succeeded.
For NES games I got:
StarTropics, Monster Party, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Crystalis, King's Knight, Dragon Power, Bionic Commando, Clash at Demonhead, Bucky O'Hare, Deja Vu, 3D World Runner, Ninja Gaiden and Ghost Lion.
For SNES games I got:
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Secret of Evermore, Wanderers of Ys III, Gradius III, Populous and Super Street Fighter 2 in box with instructions.
For N64 games I got:
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie
For Dreamcast games I got:
Evolution and Shenmue, both full box with instructions.
So I think I got a pretty rockin' haul. Usually I never get to nab a stash like that but I happened to have saved a bit for this occasion. I'm totally excited to get all of these tested out and play them.
Well I think that's all I have for today. Pictures from the convention are attached to my Tomopop blog, frankly because I didn't feel like uploading the pictures AGAIN for another 2 hours... Again, if you want to see the toys I bought visit my Tomopop post as well.
*Warning: This is going to be a very graphic heavy blog*
Ok, so I already knew today was going to be a great day because I have 3 days off in a row and Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core comes out today, which I have and will be playing as soon as I finish this post. Then, even more awesome occurred. Two very lovely packages from my bestest friend, Colette appeared on my doorstep this morning! I can definitely say today is freaking Christmas!
First off, my awesome Kid Ninja that I had won from Tomopop's first contest (which later lead to me becoming an editor) showed up today! :D So right now this piece of awesome is gracing my computer desk. But here are some pictures:
My second package is because she is absolutely the most awesome person ever. I had asked her opinion on what Destructoid shirt to order, and she just offered to send me a couple. ;-; Now, when I hear a couple I think like.. 2. FIVE shirts showed up at my door today! And not only that but two cute little StrangeCo. figures from the Vivisect Playset line as well! I just opened the box and had a look of awe that only O.O can explain. Also inside was the cute little message about this being my box of happy that I've used for the header. Yes, yes it is my Happy Box. The two StrangeCo. figures are the T. Han and A. Ausgang and they're so awesome and just sitting all cute on my computer desk as well. So here are some pictures of those:
Now for the shirt pictures. I am still so half-asleep right now it's ridiculous, as it shows in my pictures, but I had to take pics immediately when I got the boxes. So I had thrown water on my face and half my hair is wet, but it's totally worth it.
So hey.. make games suck less! K? This definitely applies to XBLA..
Bomberman FTW!
Rawk out with yer cawk out Dtoid!
Rockin' it vintage style
I <3 you guys!
Ok, I just want to thank Colette again for being so awesome, not only for sending me this stuff but for allowing me to be a part of Tomopop. There will be a very special Show and Tell article up tomorrow, so be sure to keep an eye for that! So thanks again, you will receive many a rape at PAX :D
Alright! So this post is long overdue, as I had actually gotten the package over a week ago. I was just saving it until I got a frame for the amazing poster that showed up at my house. I really appreciate the amount of awesome that got sent my way, Ron.
In my giant tube, triangle, box thing I received a Cashwh0re shirt, a signed Call of Duty 4 poster, Guitar Hero III posters and some Guitar Hero III stickers. This totally made my day, and I now have my poster hanging above my kitchen table.
So without further ado, here are pictures of my awesome goodies!
So thanks again, Ron! It's really appreciated!
P.S. to Everyone:: The Lala and Lolo hats are still up for sale on my Etsy store, so if you'd like to give this pair of hats a home you can see them here!

As a reiteration from the show, any money I make from these hats will be to help me get to PAX this year. So I really appreciate how everyone's helped out so far. It really means a lot.
