Its been 10 or so years since a game ive played that has grabbed me emotionaly and through sheer brilliance that i can now call the best game i have ever played. That game for me was Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation.
Maybe some people would call me daft for saying that Metal Gear Solid is the best game ever but it was the whole package for me, it was so emotional with the music and the characters and the gameplay was awesome.
I have played Mass Effect 1 when it was released back in fall of 2007 and i enjoyed the experience albeit a bit on the short side and annoying having to drive around on the Mako quite a lot. The parts that BioWare got right with Mass Effect was the choices that you can make as a player. Chosing to be a good guy and get Paragon Points in the process(which i always to as im into being a good guy) or go down the Renegade path and be as harsh as anyone can be. I had not at the time had a clue the potential choices would roll onto Mass Effect 2!
Chosing to Save the Council or letting Wrex live have implications ME2.
EVEN small actions like helping Gianna bring down the corruption in Noveria will bring about conversations in the sequal and gain extra Paragon Points! Getting to the point these features that Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 have make me feel that im the major part in saving the galaxy!
One thing that i love in Mass Effect 2 is the extra Characters and the missions that you can chose to do that will get you their
FULL loyalty(and an Extra Power) each characters mission is an emotional ride from the get go from the moment you chat to the character on the Normandy to the end where there is difficult choices made by Shepard or the other character.
Thane for me is the best character, a Drell Assasain, who has a poweful side mission that will see him wanting to get close to his son as Thane is dying,as i have only progressed as a Paragon on my first playthrough i see Thane and his son sort things out and charges against him dropped.
Gameplay for me in Mass Effect 2 is brilliant and 100 times better than the first game, Better use of combining Powers and the increase in fights have made Mass Effect 2 away from the RPG aspect of it into more of a shooter.
I got the first Mass Effect game complete in around 10 hours or so and Mass Effect 2 took me 25 hours to complete and i spent nearly 12 hours straight on ME2 as it is so addictive and il be playing through the game a second time round to try to get the Renagade side of me out!!
I have already made the bold statement on my podcast that it is easily my favorite RPG since FF7 story-wise, and could easily take my top RPG slot depending on the ending.
