Hello everyone. In an effort to promote journalism amongst my peers, I thought I would make a top ten list about the best use of rap and video games. Excluded from this list are the multitude of people rapping over games that seems to appear on you tube a lot. Also I didn't include songs like the "sweet" song from Street Fighter Thrid Strike, since they weren't about games but were just in a game. Anyway, here it is, the top ten best video game references in rap songs.
10) Mario Brothers Super Show Theme Song Easily the greatest rap of all time. I'm hooked on the "brothas." 9) Ludacris "Press the Start Button" Ludacris made a song about video games, I think. He talks about pressing the start button, I guess they want to look up their characters moves or change camera settings in Madden or NBA live. He mentions Blanka, "pulling out guns like in Contra," GTA (which many MANY rappers talk about for some reason), God of War, and several other video games. 8) Eminem - Hellbound While not lyrically based on any video game in particular, this is Soul Calibur. It's from an album called "Game Over Compilation," and according to my quick research there was a sequel called "Game Over 2" both albums feature video game music with rap over them. I know right? 7) "Your parents help you hook it up!" 6) Soulja Boy - Braid "It ain't got no game." "It look like mario in the future" "I just went back in time." "This shit called Braid." 5) Three Six Mafia Playstation A whole song about playstation starts us off. With their always hilarious parody of mainstream society, three six mafia yell and scream various lyrics about their enemies playing with their playstation. I can only assume they're playing Makai Kingdom like I am.
**** TOP Five RAP VIDEO GAMES *** Just an aside, since this post is really long. I thought I would mention some rap video games! 1) 50 Cent Bulletproof - 50 Cent and his friends kill people in the ghetto. 2) Wu Tang Clan fighting game on playstation 1, yes it's real. It uses the same engine that the unreleased Thrill Kill used. 3) 50 Cent Blood on the Sand - 50 Cent and his friends kill people in other countries ghettos. 4) Rap Jam: Volume One - Basketball, with Coolio. 5) B. Rap Boyz - Thrilling horizontal action adventure kit. **** END OF TOP THREE RAP VIDEO GAMES *** 5) Ludacris "Rollout" This song contains the lyrics Playstation 2 up in your ride. 3) Three Six Mafia Don't Violate At the very end of the song as the closing rap lyrics, which we all know are the best lyrics in a rap song, someone known as "frayser boy" decides to mention a certain gaming system and make all of us feel old. It's a song about time travel, I think.
[Frayser Boy] Pick his *** up, drop him off on his last breath F*****’ wit’ the hypnotize, you gon’ have a fast death Real n*****, yeah we is, you can come and find out Frizzle’s on that bay, I can show you what my mind ’bout Three 6 got me on now I got to keep a tone ‘Cause they haters now my haters, if we have to beef it’s on Most of y’all been hoes, Frayser Boy’s ten toed Leave his ass in the past n***** like Nintendo, whoa 2) Insane Clown Posse "Let it Rain"
In this song, towards the end rapper Violent J on his 2003 concept album "Wizard of the Hood." On the song in which a tornado comes, he mentions a certain game I, nor anyone else would expect. I'm sure no one else would expect a mainstream rap group like Insane Clown Posse to ever mention something so obscure or silly. Its purring man I'm smoking a b**** It's purring rain and the hoods soaking it up But it's getting kinda windy and the walls are shaking F***** roof is coming off I'm in the lazy boy bakin I see the c**** heads trying to reach the p**** But the wind sweep them off before they get to the door They only 90 pounds grab somthin held down Cause you lookin funny flying around f** Blunt rap on my lap ash all over me Playing Nintendo mega man 4 from 93 Shutters are shaking and the lightning is frightening F***** windows are breakin man I'm think it might be a tornado Go to the door open it up ………………… yup All the same back to my game It's alright as long as that motha ***** stays outside I'm tight Holy **** ***t what the **** is happilating The whole house spinning and shaking **** near breaking in half, I take it and laugh 'Cause what the **** can I do, I put the rocks in my **** so I don't lose them too, I'm ******* hanging on I lost all but my drawers Somehow my game's still good chilling on pause We airborn and the windows flying passing by Are crackheads waiving at me still trying to buy Mailboxes, a pizza man, some garbage cans Then I seen a naked *** ***** like... damn! There was all kind a crazy **** caught in the storm But before long all that shit was gone... 1) Notorious B.I.G. "Juicy"
The ultimate of all video game refrences in a rap song. Ready to Die is one of the greatest albums that I like. My favorite part occurs as the third verse of the song starts up. These are the lyrics. Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis I don't know how, but he rhymed Super Nintendo with Sega Genesis. That is amazing. Well that does it for the top ten rap songs that mention video games. I hope you enjoyed completely wasting your time as much as I enjoyed wasting mine writing all this.

1) No mention of Del tha Funkee Homosapien's Proto Culture from the album Both Sides of the Brain, the song is nothing but a rap battle between Del and another guy about who is a better gamer. An amazing song, which should be number one on this "best of" list.
2) YOU FUCKING MENTION AN ICP MEMBER. I CAN'T EVEN COPYPASTA FAIL ENOUGH TO SAY HOW MUCH THAT IS FUCKING FAIL.
This blog is over, it is not about kittens wearing clothing.

Snow is all around you, but you don´t play in the winter games
Cartridges surround you, but you ain´t playin Nintendo games
(If I remember Juicy right).
The oldest rap mention of video games I believe, is the "Death Row Records Xmas Special", with Snoop Dogg and Dre and shit; there's a santa claus song that has video games in the whole beginning.
For extra bonus points: Del and his old group, Hieroglyphics rap about video games, and Star Scream a lot (God I love Star Scream).
Juicy was "Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. When I was dead broke, man, I couldn't picture this."
Aw shit, served! I was always casually into Big, but I was a bigger West Coast guy back in the day. After the game became bi-coastal, I just started liking everything.

However, I find the Juggalo content of the list disturbing...
When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this"
There we go.
I want to see Soulja Boy's reaction to Prince of Persia.
wooooOOOOP!
Check out "Gaming On Ya" by People Under the Stairs. Another Dtoider blogged about it and that's how I found out about them.
Also Tazar is right about the lack of Proto Culture. WUT IZ UPP WID DAT DAWG?!
Beastie Boys' "Body Movin" - "And if you play Defender I can be your hyperspace"
Frontalot's "It Is Pitch Black"..... is all about ZORK.
