I had never played this game much before a week ago. I have to say this is an awesome game. Did you guys ever play Little Nemo - The Dream Master? Would you like to know more?
The box art really is actually quite an accurate exaggeration of the game. Most of the stuff on the cover I've seen. Especially those angry snails. They all look mean and intimidating.
And of course the title screen.
If you don't push any buttons you get a few storybook scenes that explain the plot. Premise has something to do with Little Nemo entering into the dream world to save the day. A lot of really fun cut scenes play out explaining things, would hate to spoil any of that for anyone who hasn't played this before. At the end of each level your character wakes up and then goes back to bed for their next dream.
How did I miss out on this game? No one I knew had it. It wasn't until a few years ago I found a copy myself and even then I only played it to see if it worked. So imagine my surprise after my Battletoads write up when someone asked if I thought Little Nemo stage three was harder in it than the legendary third level of Battletoads. I'd never really played this game before a week ago and would accept anyones arguements that comparrison with Battletoads.
Basic gameplay falls into the platformer genre, but this isn't like most of them. Jumping on an enemy doesn't kill them. You've a piece of candy to throw out that stuns enemies, only momentarily. Certain monsters within the world you feed the candy and ride on, or sometimes inside of. Each of these animals has different abilities. For example a mole that digs tunnels or a lizard who runs up walls. The goal of each stage is to find six keys. Occasionally I would miss one and have to go hunt for it, again, getting myself killed and quitting in anger.
Little Nemo is a little asshole. Maybe thats unfair of me to say, but I've consistantly jumped on enemies out of habit thinking they'll die only to hurt my characters health bar. As far as I know, only ONE of the animal suits can jump on enemies. It confuses me when one kills them then one doesn't and I'm on my last bar of health. I'd end up dying and being discouraged enough to stop playing. Once I got my brain to understand that I couldn't jump on enemies, the game became a lot easiar.
So what do I think of it? I kept killing myself and killing myself until I finally got it into my mind to avoid enemies and now I'm making progress. While unforgiving, I was able make it to level four in one sitting today. Might finish it up later today. I've been doing the leave the game on with the TV switched off since I started beating levels.Everything looks great. Everything sounds fine. Gameplay takes a bit of skill, practice, and luck. Just like all the other classic regular Nintendo games. My only complaint is that I haven't fought one boss battle yet. Does anyone know if one ever shows up? Perhaps just a final boss?
Doing a little research found an older comic strip. The comic was adapted into an animated film, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumber. The film ended up inspiring this capcom game. Does that make Little Nemo: The Dream Master technically a movie game? One other game was produced in the series, aslo by capcom, an arcade game called Nemo. I've not been able to find much more information than that.
I wished I had played this years ago. Probably would like it a lot more and see it in a different way. How about you guys? Any thoughts on Little Nemo and his dreaded
"train" level? Ever miss one of the keys and then yell at your TV?
However... this game did have some creepy stuff in it like the frog who talks about children and candy... also..
"Hi, Nemo. I've come to invite you to slumberland."
"What?!??!?!"
"The princess has chosen you to be her playmate."
"Wow, really? But if she's a princess, then she must be a girl, right? I have never played with girls before!"
"She's not just a girl. She's a princess!"
"I bet she's still a girl!"
"Well anyway, she asked me to give you this present."
"A present? Really? What is it?"
"Candy."
"Oh, I like candy! Anybody smart enough to gimme candy can't be all bad..... Even if she's a girl. Well, I guess I can go as long as I don't have to kiss her."
And then, the ship disembarks, leaves New York, and goes for an another destination.....Slumberland!!!!
i remember memorizing perfectly the patterns in the train level......
i never beat the level after you figth vs a big penguin.....
AMIRITE?
And yes, there is a final boss that you use your magic wand to beat. I dont actually remember if I beat the game all the way legitimately though, cause there was a level select code that I abused :P
LOVE Little Nemo :D
