1. Okami -- This game is honestly more Zelda than Zelda. It takes everything good from the Zelda series and multiplies the awesomeness a hundred-fold. Not only that, but of every single game I've ever played, Okami has the best artwork, hands-down.
2. Persona 3 FES -- I absolutely love how this game took the standard JRPG formula and integrated it so flawlessly with a life simulator. It wasn't as in-depth as The Sims or anything, but it was enough to make you want to do every little thing the game allowed you to do, and not even be tired of it by the time you were finished.
3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence -- The Metal Gear Solid series is arguably my favorite series of all time, and I'd have to say that 3 is my favorite game in said series. I love 4, but 3 did so much right, and had so many little references to the other games in the series (and other games created by Kojima in general) that even to this day, I'm still not tired of playing it. I love how the Subsistence version came with the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake as well, giving everyone outside of Japan the chance to finally play the games that started it all.
4. We <3 Katamari -- The Katamari Damacy series has always been awesome, but I believe the second iteration was the best. It was the first one to have multiplayer support, and I can't even count how many hours I spent with that. My friend and I would play co-op so often that we almost had an ESP thing going on -- We wouldn't even need to look at each other or speak a word to know what the other one was thinking. Plus, you can't beat the storyline -- A bunch of people beg to be rolled up and thrown into outer space, and then be blown up and turned into planets. That's the definition of epic right there.
5. Fatal Frame -- The first Fatal Frame game was just an experiment, but what a success it was. Aside from the horrible voice acting, it's the scariest game I've ever played, with the environments to match. I recently played through it again, and even knowing where everything was, I still got the crap scared out of me. Best horror game ever.
1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence- What pedrovay said. Seriously, damn you dude for saying what I was gonna say minus the playing MGS4 part since I'm a broke ass gamer and still need to get the money to buy it!
2. Devil May Cry 3- Because in a world of games where everything is nearly handed to you for a while now (in my opinion), it's good to have a challenging game that'll kick your ass. Plus it's fricken Devil May Cry. Who doesn't love the guns and the demons and the amusing banter and the bang bang and the dead demons and the blood!?.............. Well except for
3. Armored Core 3- Cause I love Armored Core. Been playing it since the original. Who doesn't love custom robot fighting and proving your friends hard made custom designed mech is complete shite and should make a new one if they ever have the hopes of beating you? Out of all the Armored Cores for PS2, I liked 3 the best. It has personality to it, wasn't too simple or complex. And out of all the Armored Cores for the PS2, I like the music in 3 the best. All of this is why I like 3 out of the series for PS2, Nexus was a close first though. <-----Yes, me big Armored Core fan which is reason why I'm entering contest.
4. SSX Tricky- Fantastic snowboarding game. I also view it as the the best of the SSX series. 3 was good, but didn't offer that over-the-top fun wackiness that Tricky had. The courses, the characters, everything in Tricky was over-the-top, exaggerated, and just fun. 3 was good, but it was more realistic which took a bit away and made it a bit dull for me (doesn't help most of the music selection in the game was crap).
5. Final Fantasy X- This was my first RPG I've beaten. I never had a PS1 so I missed out on many RPGs. It had a story that drawn me in and the skill system was interesting. I liked having the ability to progress my character the way I want them too, it adds a sense of freedom compared to the other RPGs I've tried on a friends PS1.The cast of characters varied in character (but that's standard in an RPG) and the plot offered some nice enjoyable twists that were unexpected (it was my first RPG so some things might have appeared less obvious to me)
2. Shadow of the Colossus- A game that was clear cut in terms of game design (find the colossi, kill them, rinse and repeat), but provoked more internal questioning and emotions in gamers than most genre-blending games.
3. Burnout 3: Takedown- Burnout is all about speed and aggression, but the crash mode is as much a puzzle game as it is a demolition simulator.
4. Silent Hill 2- A terrifying trip into the mind of a man suffering over the weight of his actions, and survival horror at its finest. The characters and atmosphere set the stage perfectly for the true horror story- the current state of the franchise.
5. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time- Even without Sir Ben Kingsley, the game was fantastic. Almost impossible acrobatics, player-controlled time (used to save yourself from pitfalls and missteps as well as strategically used in clever puzzles), and combat against many foes simultaneously- this game was a finely polished gem.
2. Yakuza 2 - I adored the first Yakuza, despite its poor localization and somewhat clunky combat. Because of the mediocre reception, I figured we'd never see the second game, but low and behold it came out! Smoother combat, better graphics, less loading and more sub-missions combined to create one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately nobody bought it and we may never see another Yakuza game in the states...
3. Final Fantasy X - The first Final Fantasy I ever owned/beat. Sure the VO isn't that great, but the combat, the graphics, and the story still hold up! It was surprisingly emotional, and the likable characters really drew me in. It was the beginning of my love for Final Fantasy. Also, Auron was a freaking badass, but that goes without saying.
4. Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner - In my opinion, ZoE2 is everything a mech game should be: beautiful graphics, fun, fast-paced combat, the ability to interact with your AI (with L3 and R3 as "yes" and "no"), and just giant-scale battles. Also, the main character's name is "Dingo Egret".
5. Disgaea 2 - Sure, a lot of people look down on Disgaea 2, but it's my favorite game in the series! Maybe I like it so much because it was my first Disgaea, but I always thought that the combat was smoother and prettier than the original, but not as cluttered as 3 (I have to arrange a classroom to fight the way I want to? Ridiculous!) It just clicked for me, and it's my favorite SRPG to this day.
