Disgaea 1 vs. the first hour of Disgaea 3

So first some things they have in common... Just about everything except a new story. In my opinion the Characters in both games make terrible first impressions. They all have those super whinny child voices, but they really grow on you because of how evil they really are. Near the beginning of disgaea 3 a prinny (demonic penguin with peg legs and a fanny back.. oh and bat wings) tells you about money for the first time and whats the first they your character says? "Money, great. Give me all of yours" and you take the prinnies single currency. Whats not to love about that.

My only problem is with the graphics. I don't mind that they're still sprites, but the character models seem worse than in the first game. it seems like they were more inspired by pixel art than the anime style from the dialogue boxes. The characters are so blocky. If they would have just smoothed them out a little they would stand up to those really close zoom effects.

However all of the animation is smooth and quick.

If you liked the first disgaea this one will do you just fine. But the character models make it appear like a real rush job. Especially in light of the crisp clean enviorments and menu screens.

if you haven't played disgaea, you might like it. I had tried FFT and thought it was too complicated and slow. Disgaea feels quick and more unpredictable.

Nothing will ever match up to Laharl and Co. as far as stars of Disgaea games, but I'm definitely enjoying playing through Disgaea 3 so far.

I actually think I like Almaz more than Mao, just because he's sort of the "You've got to be kidding me" type who comments on all the ridiculous crap going on around him.

I played all 3 (but i did not finish the 3rd one yet) and i prefer the 3rd up until where i am. Mao is a great character. He's the total opposite of a human! Even more evil than Laharl. Also, you'll meet a cook somewhere in chapter 3 and he has some pretty funny dialogue... Boom!
