About
Welcome to the home of PlayStation Friday Night Fights.

Friday Night Fights is a weekly event where we, community members, cooperate with or murder each other online. There is a forum thread for planning and then a blog post here with the final schedule. Keep an eye out for both them if you want to play some games.

If you are new to the whole thing, check this out: FNF FAQ: Everything you need to know (but never asked) about Friday Night Fights

The Guide

To Play

Keep yourself up to date on the schedule. The list in the forums can change several times throughout the week.

Leave a message with your PSN name and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will play if other people are playing, so speak up.

Send a PSN friend request to the person hosting the game which includes a message with your Dtoid name. If you leave out who you are on the site, they might think you're just a random friend request and ignore you.

To Host

If you want your game listed on the schedule, we need the game, the time, and your PSN ID. We need the specific game, not an abbreviation that applies to more than one; a start time, even if you're playing "all night"; and we need your PSN ID even if you think we know it already.

Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time.

Make sure you have at least an hour to play. That's only two or three matches of the average shooter and those go by pretty quick.

Check the comments, on both the forum post and the cblog when it goes up on Friday, to see if someone has said they'll play. You might have missed their PSN message or your friend list might be full.

Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.

If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.

If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.

Xeno Kiss DLC available January 2015

I can always trust the month of October to overload me with horror-related stuff to watch or play.

I picked up Alien: Isolation on launch day, pre-ordered at GameStop because I wanted early access to the DLC with the original cast of Alien and because I’m part of the problem. It’s definitely interesting so far. I’ve been saving it for the weekend so I can properly dive in but they really nailed the atmosphere in the opening level. The character models and mocap are kind of awkward (lip sync in an opening scene was terrible) but otherwise solid. It’s a ballsy move for them to go for a straight up survival horror game in a time when they’re still a somewhat niche PC market. I hope it sells well so more devs will takes chances on the genre.

The Evil Within is due out on Tuesday and I expect fairly mediocre reviews from people expecting either pure survival horror or something along the lines of Mikami’s benchmark, Resident Evil 4. After watching the demo footage on YouTube, it seems like it’s more along the lines of a bigger budget, less Suda51-ish Shadows Of The Damned. I’m always down for a big, gory action/horror game so I expect I’ll get a lot more mileage out of it than the reviewers do.

Also, after travelling around on the festival circuit for a few years, they’re finally releasing the Director’s Cut of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed on Blu-Ray at the end of the month. It was really underrated with some fantastic practical effects despite clearly being chopped up in post-production. Bringing it back was a real labor of love for the Barker and the fans, so I’m interested to finally check it out. Plus a new ABC’s Of Death and V/H/S/3 anthology movies on VOD. I really do love this month.

Jars of spiders forever.

Way too bloody busy at work

So I've been super busy with a software release, so much so that I completely forgot to write the blog post.

I've been having to deal with a coworker in doing some documentation, and he is the the most annoying know-it-all I've ever encountered. I'll ask him for a file, and he will quite literally (none of that figuratively bullshit) blink his eyes really fast, like a deer in headlights. He can't possibly FATHOM why I would want something to help me do my work, and, instead of sending me the file, he must first question my motives and criticize me for everything. Then when I tell him "nevermind", he actually says 'Well I would have sent it but I was too busy IMing you.' I may kill this person. I hope you all can bail my blue-dragon ass out of jail if that is the case.KimikoLoco

Throw a quarter in the machine!

So Ive finally joined the ranks of the PS4eigners. Im generally pretty impressed. I set up a few downloads from my phone on Monday night after I set up the system but had to leave right away, pretty much everything was ready to go when I got home to play. This was something you could do on the PS3 but not until the later days of the system and it was a little inefficient. Im digging the controller a lot though the pause or options button is a little weird and I already miss the cross media bar (seriously, the XMB with the touch pad for navigation would have been a beautiful thing!). Im still miffed* about Warframe not letting me transfer my profile and progress (*PSToid Podcast Episode 7 True Believers!) but its still Warframe and its still fun. Plus if I get really irked about grinding in Warframe I can go farm in Destiny!

On the whole Im excited for the new games. I still need to pick up Killzone Shadow Fall, inFamous Second Son, and The Last of Us: Remastered. All of which should be beautiful (I was surprised to see I could tell a difference between the PS3 and PS4 Destiny intros), and fun to play. All in all Im stoked to have joined the fold and frankly Im looking forward to running some road races next month with Drive Club! Cornflake

I have no context for this.

This is where I'd write something I found interesting if I hadn't wasted all my time redoing our copy/paste template in HTML.

Even more free DLC!

Look at this punk. Psssh. I could take him.

Yeah! American philosophy deep cut! I was stumped for a Destiny-related post so this is where Wikipedia dropped me off. Some dead guy who liked the concept of free will. Whatever.

So. Destiny is out and it’s perfectly okay. The story is complete bollocks in the same way that Diablo 3 (my other recent PS4 obsession) is but that’s fine. The gameplay is rock solid and the Strikes, Raids and PVP will be enough to keep people interested while they drip feed us DLC. A great game if you just want to hang out with your friends and shoot the breeze while headshotting an endlessly respawning horde of generic aliens. Just try not to think about some poor engineer pinching Peter Dinklage to keep him awake during the V/O sessions.

Feel free join our multi-platform Destructoid Destiny group as well via the Bungie website. You can plan Fireteams or just say hello to other Dtoiders. You also get to pimp the Destructoid name in your banner for everyone to see.

On Saturday night I will be at a dive bar watching the mighty Earth play and I am completely stoked for it. They’re like the soundtrack to walking around an Old West ghost town in the middle of the night.
