About Me

Yo East Coast, where you at?

Hello, fellow D-toiders, my name is Andrew and I reside in New York City. It has been such an amazing experience being a part of this wonderful community. From my activities as a host of the Friday Night Fight events to becoming one of the community members responsible for handling the Destructoid NY group, coordinating East Coast meetups to helping the PAX meetup group, I have loved every minute of my time spent with this community.

Please hang out with other Dtoid members whether it would on the main site chat to your local Dtoid group. It can be life changing, trust me on that.

Why I came up with Samit's Birthday Cake plan and a deep PAX reflection
power-glove | 6:23 PM on 09.20.2009 27 comments

First, I want to thank a fellow Dtoid New York member Cactar Crush (some of you may better know as Kim) for selecting and getting the cake that I gave Samit at the PAX panel.

I want to tell you guys something if you did know, Samit is the only human being on this planet that has a birthday every single day of the year. I felt that it would be excellent for Samit to celebrate this wonderful occasion with all of his friends and fans. So, I decided that what would better than to give him a special cake at the Dtoid PAX panel.

Samit and I go pretty far back. We first met each other at a New York tech show known as Digital Life 07 when I saw him playing GH 3 at time and noticed that he was wearing GuitarAtomik's STFUAJPG Dtoid shirt. At that time, he was still known simply as the user BronxBomber 21 the time. Meeting with him convinced me to get a little more involved with community and it has been nothing but a blast ever since.

From helping coordinate Dtoid New York to being an FNF host, it has been and honor and a privilege getting to know some of the great people that frequent this site, and none of this would never have happened without that chance encounter. I think I owed him one for bringing me into this family.

Now, for a PAX reflection

It was great to meet all of you guys and gals in Seattle during PAX 09. Every single member of who was in Seattle that weekend showed me why I It always amazes me that a group of individuals so different and unique can be as welcoming as all of you are, but this never surprises I always felt welcomed ever since I came into the fold over two years ago. Janier, you are a lucky man, to have a very talented and kind individuals working as your staff and to have dedicated members who are willing to dedicate themselves to sharing the love that they have for this site with everyone around them.

I tend to brag about how great Dtoid NY is and the reason for that has nothing to do with the fact that we are primarily based in New York City. The people that comprise my group are nothing short of fantastic as many of you saw. Guys like Tino, Zen Albatross, Casualweaponry, Keener, and Anonymous Noob and gals Nintendoll and Cactar Crush, are just some of the fantastic members that I get to hang out with on a regular basis. After some of you met these individuals, you start to understand why I brag so much.

The reason that I created the PAX Google Group and Blog account, was to extend the same hand that was shown to me since I have started here at Dtoid to you guys. I wanted to make sure that all of the events and activities that we did while were in Seattle went as smoothly as possible. I, also, hoped that it helped a couple of you guys found roommates with the help of the Google Group so that your trip was a little more cost efficient.

This community is home to a group of very wonderful individuals that are willing to extend their hand to help another enjoy themselves and to have a little fun. Users like Superflossy and Casualweaponry have reached out to me so that I could attend events. Also, guys like Phist who was willing to introduce me to the most wonderful people that are on this site and people like Agent Moo, who was willing to drive down to NYC from Boston so that I could possibly attend the Cinci NARP, last year, showed me what it is to be a Destructoid member. Video games and the act of writing about is not what makes this site special to me. It is seeing unique and kind hearted individuals come together to enjoy themselves is what makes this place so unique. Seeing random strangers willing to help out other for the sake of having a good time. This is what being a member of the Dtoid army is all about.

If you are ever in the NYC area and are interested in having a good time, contact me. I will do my best to see to it that you enjoy your time in my city. Thanks for all of the great times in Seattle, I will never forget the hospitality that each one of you guys have shown me.

Nice seeing you again! The cake idea was awesome and the cake was pretty delicious, I hear that even the candles tasted great.

I really need to get myself to a New York and a Texas narp.

The Pax Samit cake should be a regular. But I have to agree with everything powerglove said here.

Yay Power Glove! :D

Great to see you again man, and it was a privilege to share a flight back to NYC with you. That was indeed a delicious cake, although I never got to taste one of those apparently delicious candles. ;)

I just have one complaint from what I understand of this awesome Samit Birthday stunt: Why the hell didn't everyone sing Happy Birthday and give him cake again for every day of PAX? ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH!

Aw PG, you are like the Dtoid NY Community manager; you make sure the magic happens :D

At some point I WILL have a NARP at my new place. Just have to finish cleaning and unpacking. It's tough because we need so much furniture and we have no money right now, but at some point in October (maybe November since Wardrox will be back) I'll try organizing something :D
