About Me

Yo East Coast, where you at?

Hello, fellow D-toiders, my name is Andrew and I reside in New York City. It has been such an amazing experience being a part of this wonderful community. From my activities as a host of the Friday Night Fight events to becoming one of the community members responsible for handling the Destructoid NY group, coordinating East Coast meetups to helping the PAX meetup group, I have loved every minute of my time spent with this community.

Please hang out with other Dtoid members whether it would on the main site chat to your local Dtoid group. It can be life changing, trust me on that.

The Penny Arcade Game sells for 20 dollars and sets an XBLA record
power-glove | 4:11 PM on 03.27.2008 32 comments

Today, the people at Hothead Games announced the price for Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One, it will cost $19.95. Currently, that price applies to all versions of the game, which include PC, Mac, Linux and on XBLM, where the cost is 1600 Microsoft Points ($20), as well. This is the highest costing game currently for the XBLA. Will this cost deter you from buying this game?

If it isn't giving me food or some other source of income as a reward for playing it, I do not think that is worth it!

No, the words "Penny Arcade" deter me from this game.

I'll buy the TRUE version IE PC :) but no this won't deter me. I'm sure the game will be awesome, the art style is perfect and gameplay looks very nostalgic.

and aren't there supposed to be future episodic content or some kind of incremental installments in the future?

yeeeaah, I definitely don't know about that

Not really. From what I've seen of the game, it's a real, actual game, not a typical minigame-esque title you see on XBLA or PSN.

Also, aren't the Xbox 1 games on XBLA for similar prices?

Anyway, I payed $20 gladly for Portal, and the Penny Arcade game looks to be of the similar length.

Yeah, not liking that price point so much. I thought Puzzle Quest was expensive, but this is just rediculous.

I don't really know too much about the game, so that may be a fitting price, but any game that goes over the standard 400-800 point range just seems overpriced. Especially when there are going to be more episodes later.

Yeah I'd prolly get it on PC then, If I get it at all... PA has some funny comics but I don't know if that'll work in a game...

Half the price of GT5 Prologue.
Almost sounds like a bargain now, don't it.

I'm interested in it, but I'll probably wait til after it launches before deciding whether or not to pick it up, and it'll be on the PC if I do.

Twenty bucks for a Xbox Live Arcade game seems way steep to me, especially for an "Episode One". Three "episodes" in and it'll be as much as a full retail game... I'm not saying it's out of the question for me, but $20 really makes me think twice...

I'll still buy it. Everytime Gabe writes about games I can't help but feel that he gets it, and I'm sure it will be a great game.

The game is apparently around 8 hours long and it looks pretty deep. Considering Aquaria is $30, and Portal is $20 by itself, I'd say that's pretty fair pricing. I'll still wait for reviews before I get it on either platform though.

I just don't think the game looks like that much fun, honestly. I was kind of interested for a bit, then I heard the terrible sound effects, and then and then and then...

How is it "overpriced" lets look at Puzzle Quest for the DS when it came out? 29.99? You act like this is some slap. OMG Expensive. The difference is this is a real game, its not old school contra or some bs. If it came out only on PC no one would even be talking about this. Atleast you guys are getting a chance to play it. Portal is 20 bucks through steam and millions of people bought it. Look at Audio surf. Thats 9.99 and it uses your own music, it wasn't hand drawn, no story. It takes 1/3 the time to create a game like that then this game. Hell to me, its cheap. Aslong as the game is enjoyable who cares? to me if its 8 hours of content, thats what 2 4 hour movies? Sounds pretty good to me. I don't see why this is even an issue.

$20 is too much to pay for one game that you can't even have a physical copy of.

You can have a physical copy. Just buy it for your PC.

$20 for a full game is no biggie. This is assuming I get a demo to try it out first. I kind of wish we'd start getting full games on XBLA. I say kind of because the base hard drive's only 20gb, and the add on drives are so overpriced.
