No Tony Hawk game this year on home consoles: Thank God
power-glove | 8:22 AM on 05.09.2008 13 comments

According to Dark Zero, the people at Activision have finally decided to give the franchise a little bit of a break and decided to not put out a home console version of a Tony Hawk game this year.

Apparently, the Activision plans on "reinventing Tony Hawk from the ground up," and it's about time. I don't know about you but Skate seems to have made much more of an impact then we have realized. Although, I'm guessing the real reason why there isn't a Tony Hawk game this is fact that Neversoft is going to be hard at work on GH4.

But not to worry Hawk fans, Activision plans to make a DS title that is scheduled for this year.

I loved the first 2 or 3 Tony Hawk's but then I just kinda got bored with them. I recently bought skate, and I can honestly say that is the best skateboard game to come out. The controls, and detail put in to make it more realistic is amazing. I just dont seem myself going back to the arcade style game.

sweet. skate was phenominal.

a little healthy competition between EA and neversoft could only benefit the skate loving gamers.

I bet Skate's success has a lot to do with the reinventing and other nonsense. Competition is always good. Too bad nobody can do to the Madden series what Skate did to the Tony Hawk series.

Hopefully they use this time wise, heck I wouldn't mind a HD remix of THPS3. Best of the series IMO. However I'm still undecided as to whether the next game should be more realistic or more arcadey. The skating game crowd has been divided now I suppose.

I loved skate.

Can't say I have any willingness to go back to the tony hawk games.

Skate actually blew my mind as to what could be done with skateboarding on the consoles, I find it very hard to go back to the aracediness of THPS, THUG,THAW etc.

Yeah, 3 is the last Hawk game I really got into myself. Hopefully they'll come back with something to give Skate good competition.

I think 2 was ths last TH game I really played (maybe 3 I unno.) but I got tired of it after awhile anyway. I haven't even played Skate yet but i'm glad it's at leastt giving some competition to something that seemed like it didn't have any.

4 was the last great Tony Hawk game.

I love THPS 2... nothing after that really ever mattered.

Skate just OWNED THPS and they are trying to figure out a way to match it without copying it

After THPS3 introduced the manual, it went downhill from there. This game does not need to be refreshed every year.

A little break is definitely needed. I only wish Madden would do the same.
