About Me

Yo East Coast, where you at?

Hello, fellow D-toiders, my name is Andrew and I reside in New York City. It has been such an amazing experience being a part of this wonderful community. From my activities as a host of the Friday Night Fight events to becoming one of the community members responsible for handling the Destructoid NY group, coordinating East Coast meetups to helping the PAX meetup group, I have loved every minute of my time spent with this community.

Please hang out with other Dtoid members whether it would on the main site or chatting to your local Dtoid group. It can be life changing, trust me on that.

Heartbreaker: Would you like to know why Who's Next has not appeared in Rock Band yet?
Andrew Benton | 5:20 AM on 06.06.2008 13 comments

There have been many times where I seen people ask where is Who's Next. I have been wonding the same thing. I think we have an answer to that question. Pete, please explain.

"johnmcdonald: Back in 2004 Tommy was remixed for the 5.1 DVD-Audio format. At the
time, rumours suggested that you were working on 5.1 mixes for the other albums, such as
Who’s Next and Quadrophenia. Are these remixes ever likely to be released?

PETE: That’s right. I gave up on Quadrophenia as I decided I really want to re-record a
director’s cut of it (the way Jean Michel Jarre has just done with Oxygene). One day I
will do this if I get time. Who’s Next, it turns out, is no longer a complete set of masters.
An entire side has been stolen from our vaults at some point. These things happen.
Someone, somewhere, has it in a cupboard and is waiting for us to die? What then?

No, not only have my dreams of a complete Who discography in Rock Band but we won't be seeing Who's Next anytime soon. Are you guys saddened by this news as well?

Hmm. it has baba oriley and wont get fooled again, but not the seeker. So i am a little sad but still hopeful that maybe, just maybe the seeker will end up on rockband before it gets released in nz. If it ever does...

dicks. I want Baba O'Reily.

Well, so where did they get this "remastered" version they released a few years ago? If the masters vanished between now and then, then they'd do well to start interviewing people who they worked with back then and find out what doop took them.

And to another point, why are they bothering to remix these albums in 5.1? They sound fine in quadrophonic sound. It's far better than anything else from that time.

I figured it was because Jerry Bruckheimer got exclusive rights to use all Who songs in CSI shows.

It's entirely possible that parts of it can be/will be re-recorded for Rock Band. (Not necessarily by The Who.)

Tragic, i hate when i read hear about master copies of great albums being lost. It amazes me how they let it happen. I mean someone had to think..."Hmm, this is pretty good/popular. I better store this in a safe environment and not next to a pile of poorly placed magnets!"...Ugh.

I want to wring those thieves’ necks for depriving me of one of the great classic rock albums.
