About Me

Yo East Coast, where you at?

Hello, fellow D-toiders, my name is Andrew and I reside in New York City. It has been such an amazing experience being a part of this wonderful community. From my activities as a host of the Friday Night Fight events to becoming one of the community members responsible for handling the Destructoid NY group, coordinating East Coast meetups to helping the PAX meetup group, I have loved every minute of my time spent with this community.

Please hang out with other Dtoid members whether it would on the main site chat to your local Dtoid group. It can be life changing, trust me on that.

A Rock Band Survey leads to some insight on future pricing structure and sequel.
power-glove | 9:53 PM on 05.14.2008 21 comments

A survey from Harmonix has given us a little bit of info on what some of their future plans are for the franchise. Here are some the questions.

"How interested would you be in purchasing Rock Band 2?

How likely would you be to consider Rock Band Special Edition if it is priced at $199, but included an extra guitar (two wireless guitars, drums and microphone included)?

How likely would you be to consider Rock Band Special Edition if it is priced at $169 (one wireless guitar, drums and microphone included)?

How likely would you be to consider Rock Band Special Edition if it is priced at $149 (one wireless guitar, drums and microphone included)?

If Guitar Hero released a new game with full band play (guitar, bass, drums, singing) similar to Rock Band, which game would you be most likely to purchase?

Now, which game would you be most likely to choose if one were priced slightly lower than the other?"

I really like the possibilities of them adjusting the price of the game and offering different sku's for those who have not been able to purchase Rock Band. Lulz at the Guitar Hero full band question, it looks like Harmonix saw this coming.

im sold on Rock Band 2 if i can still use the same drums and whatnot, which seems like it would be for the new guitar hero if didnt already have it's own drum kit

The only way I'd be on board for Rock Band 2 is if all my current DLC is compatible. Even then, I still wouldn't care much for the absence of the first Rock Band's on-disc songs from the new one.

On second thought, there's no reason I would be okay with a second Rock Band. Unless there's some feature so ridiculous that they can't patch it into the current Rock Band, there is NO good reason for a second one.

I would not be on board for a sequel if they take the ass's path and make a complete change to the peripherals. Don't care to waste another $179 on a brand new set of sub-par plastic tools.

I'm going to have to learn more about Guitar hero 4 if I'm even going to consider buying it.

Activision are shooting themselves in the foot by making different drums.

Just like they shot themselves in the foot by not letting Harmonix guitars work on GHIII.

Ahem... "Insight" is a much different word than "incite." I really thought this blog was going to have an entirely different tone.

I'll just buy a copy of the game no more peripherals.

I would think and hope they would allow DLC from the current game to work on the sequel.

They'll automatically win if they allow DLC from this RB on RB2, even if it is missing whatever new graphics or gameplay element they come up for RB2.

Only one question applies to me - "Would you like this game released in New Zealand sometime before 2010?"

Me - " YES YES FOR FUCKS SAKE YES HURRY THE FUCK UP "

Them - "Ok, but we're gonna charge you twice as much as America pays, that allright?"

Just give me more DLC and I will be happy. I really don't see the need for a sequel. I blame EA.

If the follow the Singstar route and just release it's sequel in the shops and as DLC for owners of the original then thats cool with me!

I don't think they should radically change the instruments (such as symbols on the drums) but they should change the guitar as in make the fret buttons better and easier to go crazy on like in guitar hero.

I like the strum bar on Rock Band guitar but the fret buttons on Guitar Heros guitar.

Also they should get one their own music creator/editor thing going.

I prefer Rock Band just because of Activision publishing GH, but let's be honest: Perhaps we "gamers" will buy RB, but the average Joe will most likely still go with GH because of the name. It's just the way it is.

Hmmm... I have to say that I like the idea of the Special Edition with two guitars, but only on the grounds that they aren't completely broken like the first ones were.

It would be better to just release an expansion pack, I don't think there's anything in the game that needs immediate changes. Add a few venues, some more songs, in-game buyable instruments and outfits and I'll be totally satisfied.

I'm with tsunamikitsune: DLC should carry over to future games unless the gameplay is somehow changed.
