I hope all of you readers have at least played this game. In my book it's one the best games I've played. Don't worry I'm not a fanboy.
You play as Kratos the ghost of Sparta. His story is pretty sad. He was the leader of the spartans. Then in a war against the barbarians he called upon Ares. Wait a minute barbarians really, where does it say anywhere that barbarians attacked Sparta. I mean maybe it happened in Sid Meiers: Civilization but not in real life. Well back to the story, okay he calls on Ares because a huge barbarian is about to kill him. Ares makes Kratos do whatever he wants he even makes him slaughter his whole family. Okay, I just want to say that Kratos asks Ares a small favor and in return Ares has Kratos Slaughter his whole family. Wow. Gods don't know what a favor is. So Kratos Realizes that he killed his family and now he wants revenge. Okay, he is more late than this review is.
I'd like to start off by saying I loved this game. I mean to me it's in my top 5 list of games I own. The fighting does get repetitive but it's not like it's horrible fighting (who am I kidding it's pretty bad). The one thing that made me hate the game was the difficulty. It goes from normal to god mode and god mode is harder than COD4 on veteran. It took me about an hour to beat the first Medusa on god mode. I have to say God Of War did amaze me when I saw the graphics I mean they're like the best on PS2. I know thats not saying much but still, they're to good for PS2. This was the only exclusive game I wished could've of been on Xbox just so I could see how much better it could've looked.
This game isn't perfect I know that. The game really needs to fix the difficulty curve between normal and hard. Also, added combos would be appreciated. The games ending doesn't set itself up for a sequel (not that thats bad or anything but they made a sequel). Also there is one part where you have to push a block on a conveyor belt while enemies constantly attack you. Before I go on I just want to say holy f***ing hell! I didn't know conveyor belts were invented in ancient Greece. I also didn't know there were so many monsters in ancient Greece but I won't go there. Okay, so this conveyor belt part was easy on normal but on god mode it's harder than the sniper mission on COD4( consider the block is Cpt. Macmillan.) I actually stopped playing the game it was so hard. The game is good though, when not on god mode.
The gameplay isn't actually that bad for a hack and slash. Even though you just press square over and over again it isn't as bad as Dynasty Warriors. The fighting on this game is fun but they should add some more combos for more variety. My favorite part of the game is by far the action sequences. I mean it adds so much more to boss fights (unlike how on Mgs they show a really cool feature of snake killing the boss). Although it would be cool if you could do it real-time. I know the game isn't mainly platforming like Prince of Persia but they could definitely use some more platforming parts and better ones. I think anyone who has played God of War would agree when I say it has some of the best action sequences in any game. God of war has really good gameplay with some flaws.
I recommend this game to gamers who like hack and slash, action, and platforming games. It's a game that should always be remembered. With the recent David Jaffe comments I'm sure it won't be forgotten.

'The game is good though, when not on god mode'
Pussy............. ;)
I'm sorry but I disagree with this review, whilst praising the game, you moan about the difficulty???????
Yes it is difficult, but to me you are only marking the game down due to the fact that you find it's difficult. As a unbiased reviewer(which I hope you strive to be), subjects such as difficulty should NOT be a deciding factor when it comes to marking a game. Make a note of the difficulty, by all means, but don't make it look like you think the game deserves to have a lower score just because you can't beat it on it's hardest difficulty. That stinks of un-professionalism.
Also, the combat problems I agree with, but not as much as you think they are a problem, for me, once I mastered the controls, I had no problem with the combat! :)
Then again, opinions are opinions, you have yours, I have mine, the good thing is you do write your reviews to a good standard, so I do hope reading more reviews off of you.
As a side note, I hope im not coming off as a dick?? Its not my intention to be one, so apologies if you are offended by my comment. :)
@mushman
your right about the difficulty I did bitch about it to much. I`m not offended by any means this is what will make me a better reviewer.
@PLISKIN
Thank you, continue writing reviews, I WANNA READ THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
You're in middle school and you have two Bob Marley quotations about smoking weed? Go study your algebra or something!
I thought the combat was pretty varied in GoW, and even more so in the second one. Different enemies required different tactics, so you couldn't just mash the same button the entire game. Air juggles, magic, secondary weapons - I thought there was a substantial amount of stuff in there.
Also, God mode is a fucking bitch. I made it to the minotaur boss, and just gave up at that point after dying a million times. Not really worth trying to bust my balls over that.
God of war was good in its day. now i have a ps3 XD
@CHAR AZNABLE
First lol on that first part. Second I quit at that same part.

Some words of advice:
1) Write up some sort of intro blog. You just magically appeared on the Cblogs, reviewing all kinds of shit, without telling us much about yourself.
2) Stretch out your post times. At this rate, you'll be out of steam sometime soon. Give us a really, really good review every few days, instead of just a somewhat good one every 10 hours or whatever.
3) You do good work. Keep it up, but please refer back to #s 1 and 2.
And, in case no one has said so yet:
Welcome to Destructoid. I like you, but not in that way.
@Pliskin:
Fuck my advice. Just listen to Heretic.
STOP IT!
@pendelton21
do you want me to write an about me blog?
@heretic
what do you mean I should stop copy and pasting my old articles?
