ok... I keep seeing this referenced, and admittedly I'm not into music much - but can someone please explain what the hell a "chiptune" is??

... I'm sorry, but I keep thinking of Alvin and chipmunks and that it's songs sped up to sound like them! LOL! (though I'm sure that can't be it, as this would be only mildly entertaining for a very short period of time before it slipped over into the irritating side!).

Has anyone done a blog explaining chiptunes?? A reference would be great!

@Elsa: There's actually a really good Wikipedia article, here. Simply put: original music that sounds like VG game music. Zen Albatross is a chiptune master. You might find his blog to be quite informative.

Thanks! I'll check those links out tomorrow sometime! :)

(though I have to admit to a tiny bit of disappointment that it's not the Alvin and the Chipmunk thing! LOL!)

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else.
