Hey Dtoid!

First of all, I'd like to start this posting by saying that the Destructoid community is AWESOME, and full of many talented folks. I've seen so many great art submissions, heard some of the funniest jokes ever, and met some truly amazing people just by hanging around this site. You've all given me a lot of good times, and one of you even sent me candy from overseas (Phalanxxx is awesome). Secondly I'd like to say that I'm in no way trying to 'self-promote' what I do, or what I'm working on. In fact, I've been pondering making this post for about a month now, and have asked other Dtoid community members if they feel like what I'm about to do would be spamming (they told me 'no'). I'd like to apologize in advance if I bum anybody out.

So anyways, here it goes:

I need a programmer for a game I'm working on! (I'm sure we've all heard this about a billion times).

I started working on a video game about a year ago, and haven't looked back. It started as a project I wanted to complete solo, but as time has passed, I've picked up help from a couple of very talented people, who have turned this thing into something bigger and better than I ever thought it would be. It's a game inspired by NES and SNES classics (Final Fantasy, Star Tropics, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Evermore, etc).

If you're curious as to what other artwork or music sounds like, you can check this link out.

It's currently being progammed with Game Maker 7 (lame, right?) by myself, but would love to possibly move towards using XNA, Flash, or something else. That would depend on the tentative programmer, I suppose. I also want a programmer in hopes of getting this thing done sooner.

Our team currently consists of three people. All with more-than-full time jobs, and various other responsibilities. I'd like to find someone who can spend at least 10 hours a week working on the game. There's no pay involved, which sucks, but it would be good for experience for anybody going to school for this sort of thing, or anybody who just has a passion for making games. It will eventually be released as freeware. My biggest hope for this game is that I will hear Jim Sterling say that “This game is shit.” or Chad Concelmo say that “This game is AMAAAZING!”. Either one would be cool.

If there are any interested parties out there, please don't hesitate to contact me via PM, or email at highstrangeness >at< crystallabs >dot< com

If you have a friend that might be interested, please let them know!

PS.: I realize I could have posted this on say a game development forum, but Dtoid is too awesome. You guys are the best of the best, and I'm hoping one of you will step up to the challenge!

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I forgot to add that the music is being done by Disasterpeace, who has an interview on Destructoid.

I have just begun the long process of teaching myself XNA/C# and I would love to see what i can do to help but seeing as I am just starting out I may not be what you are looking for. ;_;

Damn, I'd love to say something like, "I'm your man! Where do I sign up?" but I just can't bring myself to do it. I really wish I could commit to something like this but with class and my own projects getting ready to start up, I'm afraid I'd be torn and wouldn't be able to focus on the one game...

I really like the art and music though. I hope whoever you find does your idea justice. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Also, if you ever need a tester I'll be glad to help out!

Wow, great artwork! I'll certainly ask around for you.

I'm pretty sure that Eli, the programmer for Spewer, is a Dtoid member. Maybe you could PM him and see if he's interested, or knows anyone that is.

My friend IS the programmer for a game JUST like this, being developed for XNA. Unfortunately, he's getting paid for it by an artist/musician, but I can ask him for ya!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
