Picture this:
Me jamming to Guitar Hero 2 about to finish a song on Hard. I am on the last section of notes (which has given me trouble) doing pretty good. Finally, I'm going to pass Woman! Then, my screen freezes and I get a message on the dashboard: "Unable to read the disk". "You got to be kidding", I think to myself as I eject the game, check there isn't anything on the disk and try again. Just PERFECT! on the dashboard there is a message that reads " Unplayable Disk".
Ok, maybe Mr. 'Box is tired and cranky. I turn my Xbox off and go practice Canon on my piano. Couple of hours later I come back and try to see if Mr. 'Box is feeling any better. "Ugh" I though to myself, "why now?!" It was not playing My Guitar Hero. To be more exact, it wasn't playing Guitar Hero 2, Crackdown, OverLord or Halo 3. Maybe a DVD? Nope, not that either.
To conclude my story, I am only left with Xbox Live Arcade until I send it out to the X'Medics. This " Unreadable Disk" issue happened to my Ex-Boyfriend's Launch Xbox 360 last year. I have heard rumors to save yourself from issues, buy an Elite. Well, it didn't seem to help me.
Me Sadz.
-Edit-
Ok, My Ex gave me back my Xbox 360 that he took, since I am the rightful owner. I can now play while I wait for my Elite to come back. Although, I must say... No HDMI= Very sad.

yeah, I'm looking forward to Unreal as well, it's supposed to be on the 360 TBA 2008, but I'll have some good times with my timed exclusivity.
hey, @ least we've got Haze and Ratchet & Clank.
I'm just gonna go sit in a corner now.
...yeah
Theres supposed to be a big announcement on the 13th, I hear a 399 PS3 is in the works
wow...just wow
Wooden floors + not sticking power bricks in your assholes = working 360.
I've had this problem several times on the multiple xboxi we've owned and the only way to fix it was to delete all of the game data for the game. Try it with one of the games you mentioned, perhaps one you beat already, and try playing it again.
If you don't want to delete something right out, get an xbox memory card, copy your saved data over to that, and then format your 360 hdd completely. That's supposed to work too.
Well, personally it was happening just about anytime I was playing/loading, but I can't remember any time that it would just hang at the dashboard. o-('.'o)
Eh, I wouldn't be surprised if it would still fix it, but do it at your own discretion.
becoming unresponsive at the main menus
oh god..
between halo 3 turning the 360 into an easy-bake oven, the overwhelming cuteness of eternal sonata and the pure rawk power of guitar hero..
i think my launch 360 is finally gonna die :(
