About Me
I'm 19. I'm working hard to become an aspiring and highly influential game developer. Of course, who becomes one these days? *sigh*. I've been coming to Destructoid for a while, even before this account, but decided there were incentives..including forums (which I haven't posted in) and contests (which I never will win in lol [you can see my optimism shine, can't you?]). Feel free to chat me up I guess, I'm highly opinionated though, for fair warning, but then again, I only share when asked to share.

Earth gettin' a fever?

GLOBAL WARMING IS AN ISSUE! Just because I'm 18 doesn't mean I should suffer from ageism and be considered insolent and ignorant in what I'm talking about. Now that I got that out.

Though I'm only 18, I have studied meteorology and the Earth's climate for years. Mainly for competitions...yes...competitions... It's obvious, even without prior experience, to understand that the world is not in a healthy state. Even top scientists at NASA recently posted findings saying that we are truly f***ed...ok maybe not THAT dire. Yeah yeah, I know you are saying "This is freakin' James Hansen we are talking about, hes retarded." I don't think so in my opinion. Yeah he has said the government has been the largest form of scientific century. I believe him. I think some guy out there secretly has the cure for AIDS or some other fatal illness that brings in the money to doctors, hospitals and health care, but also takes the money from tax payers to control them...anyways back to topic...before I go eat (since I haven't all day =/)

Why don't people look at the facts? Just because "what you don't know will never hurt you" doesn't mean global warming wont.

First off, "global warming" is just a myth. Second of all, you must want LiveJournal.

Appreciate the effort, but this is a video game blog, meaning things should remain video game or humour related. I see neither in this post.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not Sadistic, but climate change is definitely real.

I'm all for protecting the world and I recycle whatever I can and try to do my part. I do think changes need to be made as we can not survive as we don't have an endless supply of oils and what not.

Hopefully we don't destroy anything :(

I'm also for protecting endangered animals and am huge against animal cruelty, I hate animal abusers.

Well this was different from video games, good discussion topic in my eyes.

Actually Sadistic is right recent findings have proven that the evidence portrayed as the threshold for global warming (the Larson B Ice shelf melting) was actually innaccurate, it didnt melt it was damaged underneath. Thats sort of debunked pretty much everything and the people who were poo-pooed when they said "its just a phase of the climate" are now being welcomed back to their respective academic circles.

No matter which way you look at it, finding ways to cut carbon emissions will be a vast improvement - its pollution pure and simple, and the less pollution the better. Even if global warming is proven at some point not to exist, we should still strive to curb CO2 output, as the environment as a whole would benefit.

@Liam2015
I never read anywhere that blogs had to be exclusive to video games...it says "gamer blogs" which means they are blogs written BY gamers, not about games.

@razerangel
You are correct about the Larson B ice shelf, but what about the Wilkinsice shelf? Yes, it does say that "Larger, more dramatic ice collapses occurred in 2002 and 1995," but the trend of glaciers melting has highly increased. Eg. Many parks once known for their freshwater glaciers, no longer exist. Some people say its because we are "coming out of an ice age", but is that really a proper excuse for saying that we are running out of fresh water and land area?

@GrayFox

Obviously.

Look at the ice age and the warming that happened after that. Wouldn't it make sense to think that Earth is on a shifting scale from warm to cold to warm to cold, and right now we're on the warming side still?

@Anybody who thinks global warming is a new thing we're creating...

Obviously Wikipedia is not the greatest source for facts but the ice age page says, "There have been at least four major ice ages in the Earth's past. Outside these periods, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes."

So, at one point the earth was frozen... and after that it warmed up to the point that even on mountain tops there was no ice... that's pretty dang hot. And after that it froze again, and warmed, then froze, and warmed, then froze, and warmed, the froze one last time, and has since been warming back up.

So no, "global warming" is nothing new. Sure it exists, it's the natural course of the world, but it's nothing we're creating.

First of all, I haven't even seen Al Gores documentary. Second of all, I never had a teacher (even ONCE) approach me, or talked to me about global warming. Thirdly, if you think I'm like dprime, you can suck a fuckin dick. =] Thanks and gtfo.
